Not sure the best place to post this but this is a start. Has anybody ever gotten bed bugs from an encounter with an escort/ Masseure. I ask as a couple of years ago I offered a place to stay on an escort down on his luck and ended up becoming infested. When the guys travel they stay in neighborhoods I won’t visit and in hotels which seem sketchy at best.

The other day a guy I hired came in and out of the blue mentioned that his hotel was at least clean even though he felt unsafe - and that he didn’t notice any bed bugs. Even since I have been paranoid. Having been through an infestation was hell and I don’t want to go through that ever again.

What precautions have people used? It’s not like the good old days when I was only concerned with lice which was a pain, but treatable.

Sorry for the topic but given the climate in SF I do think it is worthy to ask.

No to bed bugs.

No to any critters from rentguys.

But wont go to hotels in SF I evauate as sketchy. Not sure what/where those are these days. I remember a few around the edges of Union Square, like the Allyson. But thats from decades back.

Last fringe hotel I went to was The Good Hotel in SOMA. It was ok... I was more concerned about my car. And that was 6-7 years ago.

We should probably acknowledge that bed bugs occur at nice hotels too, not just fleabags. Any hotel that may be cutting back on expenses, not super-thorough with housekeeping and maintenance, can have bedbugs.

Bedbugs often live in tiny seams and creases in mattresses, bed pads, etc., as well as in baseboards. I speak from experience--I ran a program for the homeless for a number of years. Showering and changing clothes are ineffective in ridding yourself of them or avoiding them. High heat is one way to zap them. We used to put clothing of affected persons into a hot dryer for about 30 mins. We also invested in a machine that superheated areas of the room. FrankR is right about luggage and backpacks. I check hotel bedding when I travel because even some very reputable places have had problems--all it takes is for bedbugs to ride in on one person's belongings.

I think I mentioned having gone back to school for a graduate degree in music, which I just finished last may. Instead of driving 160 miles round trip every weekday, I really wanted to find a not terribly expensive room, to sleep over weeknights. The best I could in the month before school started was a ranch style home that been converted to a boarding house with no living room or parlor, and with 5 guys sharing a single bathroom (but each having a separate room).

To make a long story short, the provided mattress I was sleeping on had bed bugs. Nonetheless, they did not choose to infest my clothes, and didn't transport back to my permanent apartment. After two months, I found a different place to live (8 miles away from school instead of 3), and bought a futon in a sealed plastic bag off of craigslist, delivered to the new place. I had no further the problems.

(The new place was also a ranch style 3 bedroom home, but I only had to share a bathroom with one other guy. The owner occupied the master bedroom which had its own bath. And the rent was 1/3 less than the first place!).

Sorry I am not familiar with the problem. Would a thorough shower and clean underwear remove the possibility of getting those bugs into your bed?

No, not effectively.

In all likelihood, if you're going to encounter them, they're already in the bed at the hotel.

Unlike lice, they dont live on you... just suck your blood when you're available . And use you to migrate.

If its a moderately or heavily infested hotel room, theyll not only bite you in bed, but get into your clothes, luggage, etc. and travel with you to your next destination.

High heat kills them. Hotels and exterminator-experts use very-high heat directional blowers. Best thing an average consumer can try is a clothes dryer at its highest heat.

Top hotels in SF have had issues with bed bugs. So money won’t necessarily save you. About 12 years ago I had a studio that I sublet in SF. I sublet the sublet to another Masseur and in the intervening time the studio became infested with bed bugs. One guys studio had become infested and management moved him to another room but the poor guy dragged his infested rugs to the new studio and some hopped off and found new residences. It was hell to clean what I had left in the sublet.

Bed bugs have been a newly-rising issue again for several years now after having apparently subsided in the post WW2 decades.

If you have concerns about a hotel whether it's for booking for yourself, or for visiting a traveling escort or masseur, look online & read the reviews of the hotel. You might be surprised at how often one can find bed bugs mentioned as an issue & thus avoid a nasty situation for yourself.

Recently I did so & thus avoided not only the potential of bringing home the bugs but also avoided a dicey neighborhood street scene. It was unfortunate given that I really wanted to nail a visiting escort!

Wondering if the answer is to always visit N escort at their hotel/ home. Make sure a) clothing is placed in the bathroom - use the excuse of showering first. Then b) disrobe at home before going into apartment and placing clothing in plastic bag followed by a shower. In and of itself a shower is not known to kill the B.B. but they are more likely to hitchhike on clothing.

Reminds me of the days I used to go to the tubs!!!

This advice sounds plausible to me, and I would add that the clothing and accessories worn to the encounter should then be put through a hot dryer for 20-30 minutes. Bedbugs can hitch a ride on clothing or backpacks or whatever, so theoretically having people over to your apartment can be just as risky as visiting someone at their hotel or home.

During an encounter the only bites you want are those from your partner. Wearing white clothing will make bed bugs easier to see. If you are really worried about it, you can try wearing old clothing to a meet and carry fresh clothing in a sealed bag. A shower and a change of clothing with the old clothes going into the plastic bag after the encounter will minimize risk. Don't forget shoes and socks. You can then either throw out the clothes or empty them immediately into a dryer and keep them in there for 30 to 60 minutes. I work with indigent people and some come to the recreation center with bed bugs and they need to be isolated and quarantined from the center. It takes at least three weeks to get rid of the critters and it may require getting rid of heavily infested furniture, rugs and mattresses.

I need to know how to get rid of them. I can't see them at all.

Aside from washing all your clothes and beddings in hot water and putting your shoes in a dryer or leave it under a hot sun?, spraying your bed (mattress/bed frame & headboard) and luggage with rubbing alcohol can get rid of bedbugs (as I have read an article about this). And I think it also includes spraying all the furnitures (might cause damage to it)/closets inside your room. I haven't done it since I have not experienced having these tiny critters in my place, but a friend of mine did have bedbug infestation in his apartment and he ended up using a pest control company to fumigate the whole apartment. It did cost him a lot of money :(.

I have been through an infestation which is why I am concerned. You can dust around cracks and crevices with diotomatious earth and clean with Kleen Green which will kill them. Ultimately you will have to be fumigated which is pricey $$$. In SF the landlord must pay. It also requires 2-3 treatments.
