This handsome portrait of the American sculptor George Gray Barnard (1863 -1938) was painted in 1890 by the Polish painter Anna Bilińska-Bohdanowicz (1854 – 1893). The two met when they were both living and working in Paris. Barnard is especially noted for his beautiful and heroic male nudes, including the monumental "Struggle of the Two Natures in Man" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and his twin sculpture groups at the Pennsylvania State Capitol. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/10105
