Yes, it's used in general here in the US at any age. But of course, with certain cautions under circumstances and context of the usage. In the UK men use the term Lads for men or all ages especially among themselves.

"Boys" = Guys. Maybe not these days it's used so much among the youth since the language is changing. But equally woman talk about going out with the "girls". It's an expression.
