There are many phrases, sayings, etc., in other languages that many readers understand, that certainly don't need to be translated. A long passage in another language, however, does make extra work for our poorly paid moderators 😉, not to mention a reader who doesn't know the language and doesn't know how to use a translator app. What probably should not be allowed is commentary in another script (a possible exception might be Cyrilic), where the moderator might not even be able to identify the language (do any of our moderators read Urdu?).

Given everything else on his ad, it seems unusual that one of his hashtags is #mormon.

While all this legal wrangling goes on, Novak has been sitting in a hotel, not able to practice for a tournament that starts at the end of this week. If he does get to participate in the tournament and doesn't do well, he will have a good excuse. BTW, I have heard nothing about the visas for his team. Were they vaccinated, or did they have the same kind of exemption he had?

I just did clear my cache on Firefox, shut it down and restarted Firefox, but I still have the funny new icons.

Djokovic made a choice not to be vaccinated, which he had to know carried a risk for his participation in the tournament. Whoever handled his visa application made an error by choosing the wrong kind of application. Tennis Australia and the Victoria government made an error in choosing a procedure for exemption from the vaccination requirement to get into the state and the tournament grounds, without getting assurance from the federal government that the procedure would also allow the player to get into the country first. Choices have consequences, and these choices turned out badly for Novak, but ultimately he has to face the fact that he was responsible for the initial choice. Now there is the possibility that because he arrived without a proper visa, he could be banned from re-entering the country for three years. If he accepts responsibility for the debacle, I hope the government will choose to waive that requirement next year. The Serbian President is not doing Novak any favor by turning it all into an international incident.

Whatever the name is, it has to be clear to someone searching for a site like this what the site is like, and discourage someone searching for something totally different (Rentboy was a superb choice for that). I am surprised that no one has suggested the obvious: the-men's-room. However, that would seem to exclude members like Fresh Fluff. I am wracking my brain trying to think of something accurate and easy to remember.

I remember going to see Phaedra in a movie theater with a straight female friend when it was released in 1962 (Melina Mercouri was the title character). As we left the theater, the first thing she said to me was, "You know that Perkins has to be gay, don't you?"

He came to the country with the reasonable understanding that he was welcome. The confusion over whether he had the technically correct type of visa does not seem to be his fault, but it gives the government a chance to reconsider in light of the adverse political reaction. He didn't demand a right to play (that's his father's position, not his), but went through the process of requesting an exemption and apparently having it granted before he went to Australia. I'm not a personal fan of Novak, but it sounds like it is not his fault that he has become a political football.

Many years ago I had an apartment in NYC that was at the end of a hall, so when I looked out the peephole in my door, I could see down the whole hall. Halfway down was a middle-aged gay neighbor who I suspected hired escorts. One evening I was near my door when I heard the elevator door open in the hall, so I looked out my peephole and saw an attractive young man and a girl walk down the hall and stop at the neighbor's door; then he motioned to the girl to go into the stairwell that was almost opposite that door, before he knocked on the door. The door opened, and the young man entered the apartment. As soon as the door closed, the young woman emerged from the stairwell and stood there listening at the door, while I stood at my peephole watching her. I didn't know what was going on--was she an audio voyeur?--but it made me uneasy, so I phoned the neighbor and quietly informed him that the young man had arrived with a girl who was listening at his door. A few minutes later, the girl jumped back into the stairwell and the young man emerged from the apartment looking rather perplexed, but with something in his hand, and the door closed quickly behind him. The girl came out of the stairwell to join him, and the two of them whispered together as they headed to the elevator. Afterwards, the neighbor called me back to thank me, and said he had told the young man that my call was from a friend who needed to come over to see him right away, so he had cut the appointment short, paid the young man and sent him away. So was I a voyeur secretly watching another voyeur? I'll never know what was actually going on.
