  1. I haven't been to Fire Island or P-town for many years, so like @BtmBearDad my memories are possibly out of date, but his certainly match mine of the '60s, '70s and early '80s. Other than sex, the only entertainment I can remember was in the Grove, when I went to see Carmen McRae perform at a bar one night. Martha Raye was in the audience, and she and I ended up sharing a pizza down by the ferry landing later that evening.

Nah! You're too young to remember the difference between a '59 and a '60.
  3. I was interested by how similar our impressions were of those we both had been with.
  4. Many years ago in NYC, after a pleasant romp, a provider and I lay in bed and looked through a copy of the Advocate "pink pages" together, commenting to one another on each of the providers whom we had hired or slept with. He had had experiences with many of the same guys I had hired.
  5. I remember when today used to be a federal holiday to celebrate George Washington's birthday (he would be 291 years old today). Then they decided there were too many federal holidays in February, and lumped him together with all the other Presidents. Sad.
  6. Did he just get let out of that cage in the back?
  7. Well, he does say he "can't live without" filler and botox.
  8. But, of course, you're not a mouse.
  9. Although it is great to be able to see performances at home and listen to recordings, I really prefer the experience of opera and concerts live in a theater. The greatest disappointment of retirement from major cities to a beautiful resort town is that is that I can no longer walk to a first-rate live performance of Don Carlo or a Bruckner symphony.

  11. But I am old enough to remember when the Rams were the original Los Angeles Rams at the Coliseum, and everyone there felt that they had betrayed the city by moving first to Anaheim, and then to St. Louis, which was owner Georgia Frontiere's home town.
  12. I don't see me, but I was there.
  13. Thanks, even if I don't really understand this. I guess I just have to turn off the VPN whenever I want to get on here.
  14. I just turned off my Avast VPN, and I was immediately able to get back into this site! But why has it never prevented me before this?
  15. It has been doing it with me on both Chrome and Firefox
  16. I get a 403 error whenever I try to get into this site on my desk computer, but I can get right in on my iPad. What is going on?
  17. Charles Kaiser's The Gay Metropolis (1997) also traces gay life in American cities from around 1940 through the AIDS epidemic.
  18. I don't follow the Phillies any longer, since I don't get Phillies broadcasts now, because I live in California; I can only watch them play if they make it to a final match to get into the WS.
  19. I don't remember how the Phillies got into the playoffs. The Eagles were favored to win the Super Bowl, and they had the lead or a tie in the game up to the last minute.
  20. Another disappointment for Philadelphians--first the World Series, and now the SuperBowl. Sigh...
  21. The Gay Militants by Donn Teal (Stein and Day, 1971) is still available on Amazon. It is a chronicle of the explosion of the gay liberation movement by a participant in the years around the Stonewall riot. [Full disclosure: Donn and I had a brief affair in the mid-1960s, when he was still a closeted high school teacher, and I was too far out of the closet for his comfort.]
  22. He looks Russian, and the only language he lists other than English is Russian.
  23. He says he is Slovak, but the only language he lists is English, and his photos seem to be taken all over the world. He looks more like a touring companion than a sexual provider.
  24. Jonathan Katz, Gay American History, is a good place to start.
