  1. If you're outside the UK and have old currency -- in 100 days it will just be a souvenir to you, but in less time than that you can contribute to any of the charities doing incredible work. Please please consider just putting it in an envelope and sending it to any Gay or Lesbian or in fact any charity based in the UK. Here's a few links to charities I routinely contribute to - if none inspire, then please google or private message me and I'll help you find a charity that meets your needs. Albert Kennedy Trust - supports lgbtq+ youth aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness: https://www.akt.org.uk/ London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard - https://switchboard.lgbt/how-we-can-help Cancer Research UK - https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/
  2. :-) similar reaction from some of my nephews and nieces ... when we married one of our nieces (who we've spent a lot of time parenting) pulled us aside and said "... I'm so happy, it doesn't feel like my uncles are getting married, but my two Dad's are finally getting married..." Her father and mother, on the other hand, didn't acknowledge our relationship and haven't spoken to us in decades...
  3. <laughs> I think I was the only one at the concert who hadn't drank the cool-aide... so if that's real life I need to start to panic... I agree the dominant use of the technology will be to capture still touring bands and time-travel them back to their peak; I agree the next 2-5 years will be exploiting the concert, but wonder what comes next. I believe there is also an argument for using the technology to bring back entertainment that were dominant in previous generations (Beatles, Elvis, Sinatra), and possibly apply it to remapping/colorization and avatar generation of entertainers, statesmen, and scientists none of us would ever have had the opportunity to have seen. The technology will only improve over time, the manual digitization will be automated - and technology will exist to take grainy black and white footage and with AI remap/recolor and drape over (forgive me as I wretch) ABBAtars in near real-time. The future of this technology will be a lot of fun for us.
  4. A lot of truth in this; my partner can't understand why I love a slab of fossils/shells I found in a river in upstate New York when I was 7, or the chunk of petrified wood, or the foot long drilling core (with sulfur crystals), or the rutilated quartz, or the herkimer diamonds, or the collection of geodes, or the other few hundred pounds of rocks and minerals I've purchased through the years.... and if your partner loved and treasured the rocks/minerals he collected over his lifetime - so will others.
  5. I collected rocks when I was a child; and continued to buy nicer specimens through the years. The majority are still decorating my mom's home, with strict instructions I'm to get them back when she passes. In my case the majority are sentimental, with only a few worth a few hundred dollars. As an experiment I've googled "how to value rock collections" and "rock and mineral appraisal", but was underwhelmed. Depending on where you live - your best option would be to contact local museum or university, failing that local cooperative extension (4-H) agents. An alternate option might be to donate them to a local elementary school in his name; I know my love of collecting was inspired by an exceptional 3rd grade teacher, in this case your first partners collection might help inspire another generation.
  6. Saw it in London tonight - absolutely brilliant. There were a few scenes where you thought "... that avatar has had a lot of botox...", but 95% of the show was brilliant - amazing technology and almost seamless integration with live band and audience... I suspect people are already working on bringing Beatles and other bands back to life to tour again with this technology.
  7. possibly... @RadioBob is a geek, thus it's a fair guess that he starts counting at zero, not one; thus the two millionth might be two-million or more likely two-million++.
  8. And, it should be said - well done posting the two-millionth post for the Queens Platinum Jubilee
  9. I suspect they all have their acceptance speeches written, refreshing one tab, with finger poised to hit submit in another tab at the perfect moment...
  10. The two millionth post will hopefully be special... I had followed lots of discussions on the site for years before formally joining in 2018... though an introvert, this site gave me people to ask for recommendations in London (and other cities), for a daily dose of wonderment on so many threads, a forum which helped me through the loss of close friends and family; a chance to learn from others in whose footsteps I follow with aging parents, dysfunctional family, work issues - and life; and, though happily partnered and married for almost 30 years, at times felt I could open up more here than I could in real life... so though we're about to hit two million -- I'm really looking forward to continuing and growing the relationships I've built here... now could someone unleash @JoeMendoza so we can finally hit two-million ?
  11. I agree with @MikeBiDude; laptops are cheap, hard drives are cheap -- just destroy it. At work we remove all drives and destroy content with degauss before shredding; if I wanted to destroy a drive I'd probably just remove from the laptop or computer; open the drive (normally just torx screwdrivers); if possible feed the platters through a shredder, or if not follow some of the earlier recommendations to destroy. if feeling particularly paranoid - then discard the pieces in lots of locations.
  12. Or @JoeMendoza to just have a normal day of posting?
  13. ditto As a client, incalls are so much easier; in 15 years I've been able to accommodate just once.
  14. Near my office in London my go-to lunch spots are Sushi (Itsu and Wasabi), Japanese-like (Wagamama), and Hawaiian/Californian (Island Poke)...
  15. Though too late to submit a revised estimate, it's starting to look like @Rand or @JoeMendoza will be correct with 7th June estimate, though @JoeMendoza is likely to be a few hours off...

    Softcore porn

I second @MscleLovr's suggestion - Season #1 of "HeartStopper", makes you want to be young and fall in love again...
  17. 8pm in London, have just traveled from Canary Wharf to home... DLR fairly empty... at the second stop a 23 (?? 18-at most 23) year old lad got onto the train with his mountain bike, fit (not gym fit, but FIT) wearing shorts and sleeveless t-shirt; propped the mountain bike up, and spent the next dozen stops stretching on the center bars... as he stretched one had beautiful views of flat stomach, beautiful arms, legs, armpits... a body, and face made for porn... it was fairly obvious that I was extremely appreciative of his youth... one stop before the end he exited... one final stretch, a look back, smiled, and then he was off on the mountain bike... *sigh*.... I need to win the lottery....
  18. if my math is correct (backed up by this site https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/United-Kingdom/gasoline_prices ) in London we've been above $7/gallon for most of the year.
  19. After two years being home with boyf and his mum, and just starting commuting??? *everything* makes me horny...
  20. @mike carey, was puttering in the garden today (if emptying two compost bins which over-wintered, then pruning shrubs and then chipping into the the empty compost bin can be considered puttering)... and realized your puzzle likely works in higher dimensions... e.g., consider an 8x8x8 stack of childrens alphabet blocks. The question is, how many distinct cubes can be identified in that volume... I managed to confirm cubes up through 4x4x4 before attention was distracted by robins stealing my earthworms... But fairly certain it works... I'll leave it as trivial exercise for you to prove the 4th and higher dimensions 😇
  21. absolutely love this one
  22. pardon the pun, but that should be the sum of the squares from 1 to 8: 1+4+9+16+25+36+49+64 = 204
  23. You’ve left out inversion boots 😇
  24. About two years ago I replaced an old Phillips/sonic-care with a Waterpik (Water Flosser)... I loved the old Philips, but when I couldn't find a replacement went with the Waterpik. I've had it for two years and it's incredible, massive difference in oral hygiene, I just can't imagine not using it after brushing. Have just returned from my first post-pandemic checkup, and three areas that were always of concern are no longer an issue... Given I was so slow learning about this tool I'm wondering what recommendations others might have??
  25. Once, during the pandemic, we managed 15 mph through central London... but it was exceptional circumstances - no tourists and a bit of a tail wind...
