Great for drip or press or even diy-cup and for company. Hint of chocolate like Italian Roast in a tiny crema. Also many on Reddit swear by Ikea's Patar coffee which is cheap at $5.40 for 1.1lb. Much like the Illy above but half the cost. I like the Illy just a tad better but blindfolded probably couldn't pick. Maybe it's the can. Drip and Press are the same grind. A 32oz press gives 3 mugs of coffee, a decent start to the day. No shortage of caffine.

Washington Post is out with a front page scare story today headlining those who already had Covid can be re-infected with the variant. We've known those who had regular Covid could be re-infected with regular Covid for a long time so what's the point WaPo except to fill page space with stuff that grabs readers? Even the vaccinated run a chance in single digits at least of contracting Covid. We've known that. The issue is what chance in such re-infections or vaccinated infections there is of serious illness or death. At least in vaccinated infections, it seems to be low. (Not as scary a headline). (Those of us on the coasts may be surprised how few mask-wearers there are in the rest of the country). But those of us over-protecting, ie. wearing masks outdoors, using hand sanitizer, and wearing two masks, etc can probably start easing up a couple or three weeks after a booster shot. There's only so much you can help others by setting an example.

I think that there have been no studies yet because it's assumed for every other single virus not being able to be spread by those immune or vaccinated. They are doing confirmation studies now but I think there's little reason to believe Covid is different. It was a major media concern for a day or two which was quickly shot down by specialists. One thing I find infuriating is that the CDC scheduled a meeting for a month out to approve the J&J vaccine. No rush guys, not like we're in a pandemic or anything.

I've had several rentals for years and for them and my own place I have (for 40 years) used Sears maintenance agreements off and on. They're not cheap but are good repairs. After many years I discovered Best Buy warranties are serviced by the same repair company, in the DC area at least, and they are a small portion of the Sears price. So, by all means, if you can get a Best Buy repair warranty on a home appliance get it ! It's usually a limit of 3 years though. The "thing" with the Sears warranties is they will sell them on almost any appliance you have and they become effective fairly soon. It used to be same day but after they realized how many service calls they got later in the same day they sold a warranty they put in a waiting period. For many years if something broke I would call and get a warranty and then hang up and call in a service appointment. Now they have a 30-day waiting period. Their "Whole House Warranty" is outrageously expensive and they have to try and upsell that fyi. Also if Sears goes out of business the warranties may be affected. But why are Nova and J&J saying their tests show their vaccines much less effective in South Africa than elsewhere because of the prevalence of the variant there? Also I understand those two vaccines are traditionally-produced vaccines unlike the Moderna and Pfizer new tech which means, for better or worse, their experience may not be the same (I'm assuming/hoping Moderna and Pfizer will do better because they stimulate T cell production). I understand the 14-day ineffectiveness after shot and booster. 14 days after the first Moderna I consider myself maybe half as likely to contract and even less likely to die from the virus *except for the South African variant*. That SA variant has reports from tech journals (and the idiot press) that are way too confusing to figure out. Since that variant will soon be most covid cases and because Moderna is talking about the need for a "SA Variant booster" I'm starting to wonder if anything past baby steps to normal will happen the next year at least. In the west kids have been out of formal education for a year, the economy is worse than during the pits of the Great Recession and getting worse, take-home income has tanked, there are riots all over Europe against the lockdown, etc and I don't see the west easily surviving even another year like this if the South African variant nullifies much of the present vaccines' effectiveness. Looking for any good news on the South African variant.
