Why should I care about Covid? I'm vaccinated.
+ tassojunior replied to + tassojunior's topic in Men's Health
But why are Nova and J&J saying their tests show their vaccines much less effective in South Africa than elsewhere because of the prevalence of the variant there? Also I understand those two vaccines are traditionally-produced vaccines unlike the Moderna and Pfizer new tech which means, for better or worse, their experience may not be the same (I'm assuming/hoping Moderna and Pfizer will do better because they stimulate T cell production). The 3rd American with the variant popped up today in Baltimore, 30 miles from me. And today they've changed to saying immunity may not be best until a few weeks after the vaccines after a Congressman with both shots of Pfizer tested positive. https://www.businessinsider.com/lawmaker-contracts-coronavirus-after-second-vaccine-dose-2021-1 -
Why should I care about Covid? I'm vaccinated.

I understand the 14-day ineffectiveness after shot and booster. 14 days after the first Moderna I consider myself maybe half as likely to contract and even less likely to die from the virus *except for the South African variant*. That SA variant has reports from tech journals (and the idiot press) that are way too confusing to figure out. Since that variant will soon be most covid cases and because Moderna is talking about the need for a "SA Variant booster" I'm starting to wonder if anything past baby steps to normal will happen the next year at least. In the west kids have been out of formal education for a year, the economy is worse than during the pits of the Great Recession and getting worse, take-home income has tanked, there are riots all over Europe against the lockdown, etc and I don't see the west easily surviving even another year like this if the South African variant nullifies much of the present vaccines' effectiveness. Looking for any good news on the South African variant. -
Was exceptional for it's time. Enormously expensive to make. "God's Own Country" with Josh O'Conner (Prince Charles in The Crown) is now I think better even though a pittance of the cost (and revenue). And Josh's endowment is given a proper starring role.

What I'm trying to pique out of people is what are the best rational small steps out of total lockdown that are prudent after immunization. Indeed there is no guarantee yet that immune people can't pass the virus but there are plenty of recent reports that say it's all but impossible. So, for me, beginning to go maskless outdoors more is prudent because everything I've read says that is very low risk and, to me, the benefit and enjoyment is big. I use CPAP at night and watch my blood oxygen level. My doctor told me that staying inside much more and wearing masks when outdoors does naturally decrease oxygen some amount and agreed that when outdoors I may want to try deep breathing exercises sometimes without masks. It feels great and my blood oxygen has gone back up a bit, although it's impossible for me to prove the connection . For the past year of lockdown it dropped to 92-95% but the past three weeks it's been 95-97%. I had tried deep breathing exercises outdoors with masks but it certainly didn't feel as good. What I do worry about much more now is the ambiguous news that the vaccines are less effective against the South African variant. I saw one story yesterday that a new vaccine was 85% effective against the normal virus but only 60% effective vs. the South African variant. But other stories say otherwise. It's very confusing. -
The original Bewitched is a lot better. You don't/can't remake camp.

They're also accepting proof from a doctor that you previously had Covid but are not accepting vaccines. Not well-thought-out before the announcement. (Actually bonkers) Here's a more lucid new policy mention in an Oz paper: https://www.traveller.com.au/covid19-tests-vaccines-and-air-travel-what-is-the-iata-travel-pass-and-why-are-airlines-adopting-it-h1tlst .

Johnson's is enforcing an open-curtain policy now? Do any of the Zac Beech Alpha House guys ever work or frequent? (do they have a flashing sign out front yet?) 2 weeks after my booster I know where I'll celebrate. -

Tenet is on sale now on Amazon for $5.99 HD rental instead of $19.99 ! Only Nolan I haven't seen and all the reviews say a really good viewer has to see it at least twice to understand the plot. (Inception took me 2X). I may have to pay $12.99 to buy it to watch several times. Nolan makes one feel so dumb. Maybe it's him.

No, he still is very young (24?). Just much much mileage. I would chat with him on Chaterbate when he was maybe 18 in the woods of NC? with neighbor guys coming over. Then a quick Orlando stay then Gay Hoopla too much and by 21 or 22 he was spent. Amazing he stays in muscular shape. A very Colin Simpson of GH story. That ain't steroids.

I highly recommend "God's Own Country" with Josh O'Conner who plays Charles in The Crown. Brokeback Mountain in the Scottish dales. (And Josh is endowed). -

To be clear I'm talking about what the first steps out of personal quarantine can be for those fully vaccinated, not breaking mask laws. For me I no longer feel morally obligated to wear masks outdoors and that's huge for me. My blood oxygen level dropped 2 points since the pandemic from being indoors more and masked outdoors. I've read nothing saying outdoor transmission is significant. If anything I would say the government's 1st steps- opening indoor restaurants and bars without masks- is less wise than my personal decision. I also chose to bubble for the pandemic instead of solitude and to only travel to open beaches. I chose those very slight increased risks to myself and I guess humanity in a rational risk/benefit way and I think no routine mask outdoors is the next prudent step. We've been doing 1 million vaccines per day and people need to start discussing what if anything this will change. Moderna announced today they have a booster coming that is specific to the dangerous South African strain. (Fauci and Moderna say the standard vaccine should cover it but then Moderna also says: " Moderna said its vaccine induced antibody production against the strain first identified in the U.K., known as B.1.1.7, at levels comparable to prior variants. Yet antibodies decreased sixfold against the strain first identified in South Africa, known as B.1.351." (that's quite a footnote!) https://www.wsj.com/articles/moderna-developing-vaccine-booster-shot-against-virus-strain-first-identified-in-south-africa-11611581400?mod=e2fb&fbclid=IwAR0vbTlhG_nB0kycjlMdikxq--UmYqITURBQKLZFqtVa_VhetE3V7IbXt4s I think it's prudent to ask about the South African Moderna booster. -

But you weren't outdoors. I don't see the legal or social obligation outdoors (6 ft apart especially) anymore. I'm willing to take my 5% chance outdoors where there's less danger anyway. And most people over 65 look over 65. We have to start talking about the 1st steps back soon. -

Of course I'll continue to wear masks indoors (except in restaurants and bars) both because it's the law and because I support everyone taking precautions for a while. But wearing masks outdoors is the one thing I hate, it's not required, and from what I've read there's little or no danger there anyway. I've gone outdoors without masks a couple times now and I have to say it improves the quality of life immensely. Fresh air, deep breathing and maximum oxygen are wonderful joys. -

From what I've read the possibility that someone vaccinated can still spread the virus through the air is remote (though not proven impossible yet). I'm already not wearing masks on the rather crowded sidewalks outdoors and plan to travel a lot some 2 weeks after my booster when I should be 95% immune. I'll stay cautious but not in severe total lockdown and wondering what the first prudent alterations can be. -
Like a million more per day and many here, I'm vaccinated and go for my 2nd shot soon. I've been very careful for a year but am ready to slowly get back to somewhat normal life. But they say to keep my Covid routine for a lot longer. Why? (Honestly asking why as I consider drastic total quarantine over for me now).

I prefer my friends to be spread out. I find many old friends change a lot and often are now people you would not become friends with again and get more distant. And vice versa with newer friends. (Plus I absolutely think one needs to keep a variety of friends age-wise at every age). None of my oldest friends can help me set up a mesh system. My friends are mostly in DC, Florida and Czech now and we sort of vacation together and I'm very fortunate to have them visit me in DC for many months at a time. I was able to plan my Bel Ami twins for 5 months here when the lockdown started and my blond Argentine soccer player is here from Miami since before Christmas. It's been a cheap and enjoyable way to deal with the lockdown like an extended family bubble. I wish everyone were so fortunate as to have had such a pleasant lockdown with people who choose to bubble as family. I can't imagine how bleak a year it would have been otherwise and I'm sincerely sorry for those who've had a bleak year. Friends are everything to me and rough times like the past year show who they are.
