More people need to consider state universities and community colleges, as did I. I find it amusing when the same people that cry foul when a state wants to fund school vouchers or charter schools that compete with public schools, have no problem asking the government for a help attending a private university when there are plenty of low-cost public universities available. Higher education costs more today because students today don't want to share dorm rooms or community showers. They vote to increase student fees for lavish recreation centers in campus. And they take out loans to pay for it all. I'll wager a greater chance of success on an 18 year old community college student today than on an 18 year old private university student. Assuming they both finish their degree, the one who started in community college won't be burdened with any debt upon graduation.

For me personally, I achieved the American Dream at age 25. I graduated from public university debt-free at age 23 with a degree in Engineering. (No scholarships or loans; I just worked as I went to school to pay for it). I landed a steady job at 23. I bought my house at age 25. My response to this was deleted. Apparently it's okay to bash the Bible Belt but not okay to defend it. Let's just say that I credit my religious upbringing to planting the American Dream in my heart.

I see the American Dream alive and well in the younger generation friends around me. Some are children of immigrants. Some are immigrants themselves. Some went to private/charter schools for K-12, and all went to public university for a degree in Science or Engineering. They have stable jobs, bought beautiful 4 bedroom/2-car garage houses in nice neighborhoods, same are around 28-30 years old. Some couples have their first and second children. Assuming they don't get divorced, they have succeeded at the American Dream. I have other friends who didn't study Science or Engineering at University. They still reached upper middle class, but it took an extra decade until they were 40, and it took years of living in smaller than desired housing and then finally selling their house in California and relocating to a nicer community in Texas. The key to all of these young successful friends I know are: 1. Finish school without debt. 2. Get married if desired. 3. Have children of desired. (In THAT order). I haven't seen successful rise out of poverty and debt if someone did #3 before #2 and #1.

In my experience, the gay bars are not busy on Thanksgiving or Christmas. But then again, I'm also not there at peak time after 9pm to compare. If I visit a gay bar on those holidays, I would visit in late afternoon, and then the crowd is pretty typical for late afternoon hours. (Here in Las Vegas, the gay bars are open 24/7).

Birthday gift-giving etiquette these days ?
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to Ali Gator's topic in The Lounge
Over the past ten years, different friends of mine have invited a group of friends of my choosing for dinner to celebrate my birthday. Sometimes one person may have brought a gift, but most did not. The only thing that was a gift was that they all chipped in to split the bill to cover the cost of my dinner. Similarly, I have friends who host a pool party for their birthday every year. Most people do not bring gifts. And if I got married at this age, after already having set up house for myself, I would not even expect gifts at a wedding. Sometimes I might show up with flowers or a bottle of wine if invited to a home cooked holiday dinner. Other times I might come empty handed. I am happy with this trend. I remember the company, not the gifts. The few gifts I did receive we so rare and thoughtful that I still remember them. One was a homemade gift basket of food products invented the year I was born. That was so much better than a gift card that I would have lost by now. -
I drink Malibu Rum and am told it makes mine taste like coconut 🥥

My personal preference is to only drink it directly from the tap.

Oh, I'm sure I have left some in a gas station bathroom or bar before. Just never in a classy place like Target or Walmart.

With near-hits on the rise do you feel safe flying?

I find it helps to be sitting in business class with a glass of champagne in hand before takeoff to help calm the nerves 🍾 -
Speaking only for myself, I've never left any of my sex toys at Target or Walmart. I

I really don't care for the cooking in one family's household. When they host a holiday meal, I offer to stop by for drinks and conversation before their meal and then head to a gay bar afterwards. I always have a good time. There are several gay bars here that still put out food on Thanksgiving and Christmas. If either my family or I am out of town for a holiday, I usually celebrate by hiring an escort for that morning. I have fond memories of several Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day escorts.

As long as there are no roundabout on the way to the airport, then I feel safe flying. There are way too many near-hits on some roundabouts. -
Sounds like a word for word description of Generation Y when they were younger, also known as the "Me" generation or the "MyMTV" generation. Nothing wrong with that! By contrast, Millennials forgot how to learn to socialize in person and to earn money, because their parents arranged their activities and education for them, and let them live at home well into adulthood. So, few Millennials were interested in finding a meaningful relationship period, much less a meaningful relationship with someone they would have had to meet by leaving their house. (I'm exaggerating a little, but all stereotypes and generalizations are exaggerations).

On the contrary, that has very much been my experience. My first boyfriend was 17 years older than I was. Most of the men I hire are older than me (I started hiring in my 20s). On a recent holiday, I partnered with a man 22 years my senior, and another man 22 years my junior.

My experience with Christian at 69 has been similar. 🔥 Although I don't remember his Baseball cap, I do remember his jockstrap while all the other dancers had underwear 😁

In the U.S., I tip with $2 U.S. bills. (The ones with Thomas Jefferson on them). In Mexico, I tip in pesos.

I respectfully disagree. When in Puerto Vallarta I pay in pesos. The boys are happy to be tipped 20 pesos (little more than 1 U.S. dollar) and 10 minute private dances start at 500 pesos (little more than 25 U.S. dollars). I can get escorts to my room for 1000-2000 pesos (50 to 100 U.S. dollars). I have been going every year for 6 years, and have regulars who welcome me with open arms when I walk into 69. Sure, I can pay more and get more, but I'm happy with the level of service these men provide for the prices they ask.

The most beautiful Christmas Tree in the world

Thank you for posting. I typically only visit New York City in May/June to avoid cooler weather. This alone may make a trip to New York City in the winter worth it! -
The most beautiful Christmas Tree in the world

Yet another reason to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas, beginning on December 25. There's time to buy items on sale for the remaining 11 nights of Christmas. -
I put up my decorations at the start of December, and take them down 12 days after December 25 (January 6). As a child we took them down on New Year's Day, but as an adult I enjoy celebrating the full 12 days of Christmas.

To avoid seasickness, avoid taking any boat into the ocean and instead travel by ship. Ships are bigger and more stable in choppy waters than boats. Ocean liners (which the Queen Mary 2 is) are even better than cruise ships for crossing the Atlantic. Their sleek design and front help to cut through the waves at faster speeds. Regardless if you take a cruise ship or an ocean liner, book a cabin mid ship and on a low deck. These rooms are closest to the center of mass of the ship and will rotate less during choppy weather. As for medication, Dramamine works but also makes one sleepy. Medications need to be taken BEFORE sea sickness occurs. On my first few cruises, I took Dramamine as soon as we left the dock on the first day, and took each day thereafter for the first few days of the cruise. I slept a lot those first few days. I now no longer use the pills, but have them in my suitcase just in case. But I still avoid boats including yachts, catamarans, and the ship tenders because I know their motion is unpleasant for me.
