The Tristan concert will be just Act III.

I'm sad that due to my schedule, I won't be able to see the HD (or the Wednesday encore) - this was one of the HD's I was really looking forward to. I know I'll be able to see it eventually on TV, etc, but it won't be the same as the "big screen" (and I know I won't have the opportunity to get to NYC either). Wozzeck has been a favorite of mine since my dad introduced me to it when I was a budding opera fan in my teens, and I really want to see what Kentridge has done. The broadcast of the opening performance last week sounded great!

With Herman’s passing, I think we really can say that we’ve lost all the great songwriters from the classic “golden age” era. I’m not counting some we still have like Sondheim and Kander, as I feel they also helped define an era beyond that, while Herman really stayed in the more classic feel of songs and shows. He kept writing only as he knew how to write and never strayed from that, even as he clearly felt that the musical theatre world was otherwise moving away from the “simple show tune.” He will be very much missed.

Wondering if anyone has further info. His mention of having been a varsity athlete is attractive to me. I’d love a little less chest hair but no big deal. But I’d love to know if others have met him and if he’s worthwhile. (And if he can still conjure up a “college jock” kind of vibe...)

Same here. I'm envious of guys who can do it. I do like to try, but I need a very patient, understanding guy to help me with it.

Much of my first exposure to porn was through dirty novels and those "letters" magazines etc (anyone remember "First Hand?") - so for me, the "story" of the sex became very alluring - to this day, I love doing roleplay - coming up with the scenario and having fun playing it out. The real-life problem with that, of course, is that most people just want to go at it, without all the setup. (And I'm not saying I don't, of course - just that I also find roleplay to be very erotic if someone's into it.) But yeah, the same fallacies (or phallus-ies?) about sex happen in those books too - that sex is easy to get all the time and that it can happen pretty easily, that guys are always hard and ready from moment one, that every orgasm is huge and spectacular, that every cock is huge and spectacular, etc. Something from films, of course, is the curiosity of the "money shot." Obviously you need to have them for the visual effect, but - even with safe sex in mind - I tend to think that most guys in real life would rather be shooting off while still inside someone, whether it be ass, mouth, or pussy. So that whole conceit of pulling out to then shoot it on the guys' back, etc, just seems unrealistic. But it's pretty rare, at least in my experience, to see a porn scene without seeing the cumshot.

I'm not the workout type either - but when I was a kid I did use to swim (not competitively, of course, just for fun). When I reached puberty, somehow my parents decided I should start wearing a jock under my trunks. The funny thing is that I found that the box it came in - with a picture of a handsome male model wearing it (and nothing else) - was more, um, useful to me than the jock itself. (I'm pretty sure that was my first "porn" lol.)

Little Shop Of Horrors with Jonathan Groff

One of my favorite lyrics in the show is in “Grow For Me” when Seymour sings to the ailing young plant, “Oh god, how I missed (mist) you.” -
Really doesn't matter lol. It was just an example of an actor stuck in a show that dealt with material too close to his current personal life. Back to Grigolo. ;-)
-
I didn't intend to "single him out" - the example was on my mind because it actually came up in conversation recently, and here it seemed appropriate to the subject. And yes, it happened decades ago, but I'm not sure why that matters. I'm sure similar things happened back when the ancient Greek plays were premiered, lol. Peace. ;-)

The CRAFT of acting is the ability to do what needs to be done onstage without letting it become so personal that it intrudes on real life. A good actor will fool us into thinking they ARE the character fully in whatever emotional situation they are in - and yet, that performer then goes offstage and gets ready for the next scene. Now, I'm not saying that there aren't demanding roles that don't take a toll on one's real-life psyche, or roles that are just too close to one's personal struggles to be healthy (one example is Dean Jones leaving Company soon after its opening, due to the fact that he was going through a divorce at the time - not an easy fit for him emotionally with his character in the show for sure). But if an actor is really putting his own emotional turmoil onstage night after night, he's not going to last very long. Now, "prissy Sunday school teacher" may be going too far at that end of the spectrum lol - but I do believe that the majority of performers don't bring their work home with them, and cope with personal issues the way we all do. Certainly we've heard plenty of stories about performers of all sorts dealing with addictions, untoward sexual or violent behavior, etc - but I think we'd agree that we don't hear that about the vast majority of them. But - we are in an age where such issues are being exposed more often than they used to be - and if Grigolo is falling into that abyss, I'm very sorry that is happening, but it's better to stop him now if so. But I think it's rather wrong to assume that performers are putting "the entirety of their emotions" into their performances. Part of the fun of that is marvelling how they do it - how they make it seem that way. I often use the final scene of Madama Butterfly as an example. That final aria where Butterfly says goodbye to her son had me bawling my eyes out when I first heard it as a youngster - I marvel how countless sopranos - especially any sopranos who are real-life parents - can sing that without doing the same. But that's the craft. One learns, often through sheer repetition, how to recreate the intensity of the moment without it getting too emotionally "hot" in reality. Otherwise we'd see performers literally falling apart onstage all the time (instead of just their characters doing that).

Tina—The Tina Turner Musical - Nov 7 Broadway opening
bostonman replied to edjames's topic in Live Theater & Broadway
I'm glad to know people are enjoying it. -
So - what does a jew do on Christmas Eve? This jew has had a music gig in a black catholic church for over 30 years now, so after I lit the menorah tonight at home, I went off to do mass. And not only do I play keyboard there, but I get to sing very wonderful goyish songs like Gesu Bambino and O Holy Night. Gotta love it! (Oh, and since it's a black catholic parish, we also have a Kwanzaa ceremony after our regular mass this coming Sunday. For me, that's being part of 3 seasonal religious holidays in the course of one week!) Happy holidays to all!

That may be exactly the issue in this case with Grigolo. Levine and Domingo were tacitly allowed to get away with what they did, for way too long, but now there's clearly an attempt not to let that happen with anyone else. In an earlier time, Grigolo would have gotten away with this too. I'm not sure if this was being overly cautious or not, but the more people are called out for this kind of behavior, hopefully the less people will do it. There was an incident in a Boston production last year with TV/Broadway star Tom Wopat groping women in the cast, showing up to rehearsals drunk, and other ugliness. He was arrested and fired from the show. I was telling this story to a colleague the other day, and she told me she was aware that he had a history of that sort of behavior - something that I didn't know. Thanks to the courage of one of the women in the show who spoke up about what happened, they caught him this time. Good.

Jo Sullivan (Loesser) indeed passed away earlier this year. Otherwise, I wonder if she would have given her approval to this. I'll be intrigued to see how this works - I'm personally thinking that a cast of only 7 actors is way too small for the show in general and for, as the article states, "Loesser's exquisite score" (It's a masterpiece of a score, IMO), even for a small-scale revival of the show - but we'll see what he does... There's also an excellent 2-piano arrangement that was used in the off-Broadway revival a few decades ago - but I assume we'll be hearing something different for this production?

Yes, and I had posted that I liked what I heard on the TV excerpt of Tina. But I really have no interest in this type of show. It has nothing to do with what I saw on TV, it has to do with what I know about the actual form of the production. As far as Kinky Boots goes, I have seen it in the theatre as well as the recent televised version, and loved it both ways. -
Even as a Jewish boy growing up, I always looked forward to those two, and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town as well. And of course the original Grinch cartoon. Unbeatable. (From more recent times I also have to include the Mr. Hankey episodes from South Park as well - at least for those of us that like that kind of humor.) I understand that Rudolf has now been made into a live stage show - I just missed it here in Boston. Would have been kinda tempted to go had I known sooner. I have no idea if it's any good but the nostalgia factor would have been fun.

Yup - I don't think they've ever had that, and it would be great - but it also might just make the ads more cluttered to read. But it's a good point.

All in all, as long as the escort is upfront about the way he runs his business (just like anyone else in their own business), I think it's a good thing. And just like hiring someone in any field, the client may not always like all of the "terms of service," and it's his right to decide if he's making the right hire for himself. I think that covers it, lol.

This is actually something I've always found rather curious - guys that call themselves tops but who show lots of ass pics, and guys who bottom that don't. I've seen a fair amount of that on hookup sites too.
-
Though of course that's not a hard and fast rule. Some escorts might have reason to charge a bit more for incalls, and some charge the same amount for both.
-
I suppose that's a good reason. As long as the escort is upfront about that from the beginning and not something he sneaks in later in the conversation.
