I think that's on oversimplification of the costs involved. The big cost in hormone replacement therapy is not the hormones. It's the testing. Expect ~$1k per year for lab tests. Labs may or may not be covered by insurance. Kaiser docs are totally clueless when it comes to testing for HRT. They think it's sufficient to check your total testosterone now and again.

Not necessarily. My hormone doctor uses a lab that will bill insurance and if insurance doesn't pay then they just write off the rest of the cost. I have my labs done every 6 months and for the year only pay maybe $200.
