This is so stupid. I have never heard anyone date X solely on X’s race, there are thousands of other things that make X attractive before you start dating him. I have also never heard anyone have a preference and not be honest with themselves about it. People lie to others about these things, but to themselves?? What does this mean? "To own that"? if I have a preference, I "own" one already. I am not sure these words mean anything at all. Practically what do I have to do? Do I need to shout my preference from the roof of my house? I am not American, so maybe it's a phrase that means something to you native speakers, so I can't wait for your explanations on what is the practical difference between having a preference and owning a preference.
