Dmitri reacted to marylander1940 in What Is Your Criteria To Begin Receiving Massages Again?
Considering how many people in our community end up committing suicide I wouldn't make a joke about it. Besides some folks out there are truly suffering because of the changes to their lifestyle, finances, etc.

Definitely not until proven treatment protocols are in place and stay-at-home orders are ended. I'm keeping fingers crossed for drug trials -- remdesivir, favipiravir and tocilizumab, leronlimab, hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, even thalidomide (I'm pretty sure I have a hostile colon and won't get pregnant) and interferon. A vaccine would be ideal, but that's months away.

thank you and @LivingnLA (and others) for quoting him before he either deleted his post or it was removed.
Unfortunately those who exposed themselves to getting infected with such a highly contagious disease will later infect others. I didn't skip from page 1 to 11 and I'm glad to see how everything went from the flu/hoax to reality and most of us taking precautions.

As most have mentioned in this Forum, they have curtailed getting massages due to Covid 19, myself included. My last massage was in mid-February, almost 2 months ago. I had thought I would start again after the crisis had "died down", but with the more we learn, the more conflicted I become. I realize there is no "end date" on Covid 19 "going away." It is not as if we know that on July 5th, 2020 it is gone forever, for example. Until there is a vaccine (12-18 months away)....or a treatment to prevent/stop/slow infection, we will be living with this for a long time. So we are not talking another month or two.....but much longer. The CDC is now even saying that just speaking with someone can spread the virus because it is airborne. Then throw in the wild card of the very large number that are and stay asymptomatic but still spread the virus. So for myself, I will only feel comfortable returning to get a massage when there is either 1) a treatment that prevents/stops the virus or 2) A vaccine, which hopefully will be out in about a year. Until that happens, I feel getting a massage with the super close contact is risky. Hard to relax and let go with a massage when in this environment. What is your criteria to begin receiving massages again?

Oh, definitely not until then. I would actually say even after everything reopens that you want to give it a little bit more time.

I guess this pandemic is taking a toll on you. Relax a little bit. This is an online forum. Take it with a grain of salt. If you can’t handle it, it would be better to delete your account. For your own peace of mind.

I'm finding more are moving over to RM IMHO.
RM is my default place to search now. Rarely go on MF

Although some similarities, nothing will ever compare with the horror of the beginning and the peak of the AIDS pandemic, before the meds came out in the early/mid 90's. Back in the 80's, getting infected with HIV was a death sentence to all infected. Add the fact that the US government virtually ignored the AIDS pandemic in the early/mid 80's added to the horror of that time. At least with COVID 19 getting the virus is not a death sentence for the majority (as acquiring HIV was in the 80's)....and with COVID 19 the US government and the world are jumping into action .....slowly in the beginning ......but not waiting years before they do anything, as they did with AIDS. I think it took then President Reagan 3 years before he even said the word AIDS. NOTHING will ever compare with the horror of AIDS in the 80's, as people will tell you who lived through it and lost friends, family, and lovers while the government virtually ignored it. Then add the stigma of having HIV/AIDS in the 80's, and there is no comparison. COVID 19 has no stigma.....is not a death sentence to most.....and is being addressed right away by the entire world. The true horror story was HIV/AIDS back in the 80's.

Without going into detail, one thing I have learned from personal experience, whether it is with a romantic interest or hiring a provider : when they tell you their Covid 19 status or any STD status.....Don't. Trust. Anyone. Always play and stay safe, irregardless of what they say. Your health (and sometimes it can be your life) are way to important to risk.

A client sent me this via email today...
If anyone needs to share with their masseurs, or freelance friends, small business owners
If you're a freelancer or independent contractor
Typically, self-employed people, freelancers and contractors can't apply for unemployment. This bill creates a new, temporary Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program that provides unemployment coverage through the end of the year to freelancers and independent contractors and also provides an additional $600 per week for 4 months in addition to regular state benefits.
If you're a small business owner
The bill provides $10 billion for grants of up to $10,000 to provide emergency funds for small businesses who qualify for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan to cover immediate operating costs,
There is $350 billion allocated for the Small Business Administration to provide loans of up to $10 million per business. Any portion of that loan used to maintain payroll, keep workers on the books, or pay for rent, mortgage and existing debt could be forgiven, provided workers stay employed through the end of June.
If you're a property/homeowner
Borrowers of federally-backed mortgage loans can request a loan forbearance on their payments (without penalties, fees, or interest) for at least 180 days.
Multi-family borrowers may request a similar forbearance for up to 30 days.
In addition, foreclosures on similar mortgage loans are prohibited for at least 60 days and evictions from properties related to several federal programs are also prohibited for a 120 day period.

Agree regarding masseurs and clients. But “sites” don’t post ads... people post ads. I would take great umbrage if sites shut down. I’m certainly not hiring but don’t go messing with my star gazing! -

Dmitri got a reaction from samK in If you have to pick one masseur for the rest of your life...
My chiropractor told me once that Bob Hope got a massage every morning and every evening. He would sign his masseur to a one year contract to provide the service. It was understood that the masseur would only work for him for one year. At the end of the year, he would let the masseur go, and hire another masseur for the next year, and so on. He did this for the rest of his life.I think I would go that route.....
