Stock down again today. Short sellers unite!

Glanced back at the first post in this thread from just over a decade ago. On 06/24/09, BA closed at $42.37 and today at $354.00. Annualized 26% ROI.

I'll hold onto my prediction for a decade from now and wait this small storm out.

I fly 20+ times per year with a quarter of that international. I just renewed my Global Entry on line a few weeks ago. It was much easier than the first time around and no interview was required. The approval came in less than a week. The AmEx statement credit was posted very quickly as well.

I’ve also got Clear and it’s a real time saver for me. I fly out of DCA and IAD which have a lot of airline premium passengers and TSA Pre members. The lines at peak times can be long even in TSA Pre.

It’s a great feeling to walk up to the Clear kiosk, receive a smile and “welcome to Clear” from their team members. The staff is very friendly and provide assistance with the scanner if needed. Then they take you to the TSA Pre station and say “ he’s Clear” to the agent. You get waived on through very quickly.

It’s funny to see the looks on some faces when I’ve cut the line and get waived in as well.

I have sailed thru pre-check at American/ORD for months now. I see no need to spend more on Clear.

Multivitamins are sure fire path to expensive pee and little else. It’s so sad how this industry preys on peoples’ fears.

A balanced diet is key, Vitamin D in the winter for much of the US is probably a good idea too.

The Pier is usually close to the DFW departure gate and I go there sometimes if I have a quick connection. Seat 2A on the DFW/HKG is my happy place.

    +1

But The Wing at HKG is amazing too. Better shower cabanas, great food. And a Champagne bar.

Had friends over for blind tasting, probably ten years ago. Favorite was a 1989 Krug, then Veuve Yellow Label, Krug NV, Dom (don't recall the vintage), Moet White Star and Korbel (the ringer) in that order. Except one dude who thought Korbel was the bomb!

Not about a 19 hour flight, but a somewhat shorter long haul sector. In the last couple of days the US Department of Transportation has given tentative approval for a Qantas-AA joint business venture for greater coordination of routes, fares and schedules between the two countries. As part of the proposal Qantas has indicated that when the venture receives final approval it will begin flying from Brisbane to Chicago, the airline's first service to ORD. They will also add BNE-SFO adding to existing routes from Sydney and Melbourne.

    Agreed.

Actually, it's better than almost any 'name' Champagne out there (Dom, Ace of Spades, Cristal).

I'm close to 6'3" with a dad bod and happy af. I might give it another go to get rid of the excess adipose, but my wife loves me as I am and frankly, I'd rather spend time with my kids who are growing up too damn fast.

Too many guys, gay and straight, don't anchor progress in stable, healthy muscle mentality. That's how people end up with lifelong self-image issues, steroid abuse and other things that tend to haunt you.

Good overall health, flexibility and smart aging is the cornerstone of a solid gym routine.

I can't agree more with this post. Nicely said.

A fair amount of escorts use steroids. Bottom-line: The gains are minimal and the side effects suck. Don't do it. More times than none, human nature is to think 'more is better' and so many guys end up ruining their bodies (and health) with grotesque mis-proportion.

I'm not defending anyone. Being wrong (with the benefit of hindsight) does not define negligence. In my opinion, Boeing was neither careless, malicious, nor negligent. And I'm just putting my money where my mouth is.

Similarly, I do not think that the pilots - who failed to follow the procedure all pilots learn in dealing with runaway trim - were careless or malicious. The fact remains however, that they did not follow the proscribed procedure.

Boeing and Airbus share a near domination of the commercial airliner market in duopoly. The former in partnership with Embraer and the latter having purchased the C series program from Bombardier and thereby eliminating their closest competitors.

As far as lives lost, preventable death is a tragedy whatever the cause. You will not find a single post I've made wherein I suggest otherwise.

That's neither a 737 MAX, nor is it at all likely any malfunction of the aircraft.

But hey, logic be damned, short BA! Please...

Tylenol has killed more people in the time the 737 has been flying than the airplane has. It's done that for decades and still is on store shelves. Same for doctors, firearms, cars, single engine piston aircraft, alcohol, tobacco, suicide and high fructose corn syrup. The list is long.

Naah. No one will ever get on a future 737 Max flight. It’s a bad design that cannot be fixed. Same thing doomed the Concorde.

Now, where do I find the roll eyes emoji?

Interestingly, airline profits may increase as fares likely will given the limitation on ASM growth.

I'm neither closed minded, nor deaf. And there is not a lack of expertise at FAA. This was a design decision that was wrong in retrospect. They will overcome it and be better in the long run.

I actually did buy this morning when they were down about 4%, they've fallen a bit more since. BofA new price target is $420, BA currently about $375 with 2% dividend yield so I'm comfortable with decision. Check with me in a decade and we'll see how things are going.

And to be clear, I don't ever invest much in an individual stock. I'm not good enough at it to enjoy taking the risk (and would argue that no one is). It's just a game.

So, @Oaktown did you short it?

My point was only that airplanes of all types make diversions every day for one reason or another. That a MAX8 did so yesterday was in no way related to the MCAS issue and is of no significance at all.

Unless you've seen more than I have about this incident, you have no clue as to what actually happened. The press reports do not contain any details, nor do the ATC recordings I've heard. We'll know more if/when there's an NTSB report (which is unlikely because while engine shut-downs in flight are not frequent, they certainly do occur). Could have been anything from a bird ingestion to temperature warning - or just about anything else.

Of course, the LEAP engine (made by CFM, not Boeing) also powers the Airbus A320neo, so any issue attributable to the engine is certainly not limited to the 737.
