Director Joao Pedro Rodriguez' latest film, O Ornitoligo (The Ornithologist), has been traveling the film festival circuit for the past several months. I'm looking forward to seeing it at SFMOMA as part of the SF Int'l Film Fest on 4-16.

My... I didn't realize lil' ol' you had such dark tastes. A few clips remind me of this golden oldie from way, way back. Watch at your own risk since this counts as soft-core porn. Granted, I have the feeling half of the readers here have seen it already. So many of us have "artistic" backgrounds. Rumor has it that established director Jean Cocteau helped with the cinematography.

I still haven't the former all the way through and only parts of the latter. I really like Passolini's Decameron though, despite the goings on being all heterosexual. The scenes with the "gardener" spreading his seed in the convent are hysterical.

Anchors Aweigh (1945) may not be an official "gay" movie but the way Frank Sinatra can't take his eyes off of his bro-buddy Gene Kelly (even watching him as he sleeps in one scene and breathing down his neck every time he talks to a woman on the phone) and pint-sized Dean Stockwell oggles them both leaves much to question. Also we have a cartoon Jerry the Mouse chirping "I'm dancing!!!"

Wings (1927) and Midnight Cowboy (1969) were the first "gay" Best Pictures, predating Moonlight. Well... to be specific... the former had Clara Bow as the female "love interest" but she fails to compete with the soldier boys' focus on each other right up to the "dying" kiss scene. Even when caught in her undies, "Buddy" Charles Rogers is too drunk and passed out to get a rise from HER. In the latter, Joe and Rico "Ratzo" toss around the derogatory F-word because they think they aren't gay... and Brenda Vacarro gets Joe to succeed sexually with her by questioning if he is. Yet Joe doesn't turn down teenagers in Time Square or traveling businessmen.

Of course, Midnight Cowboy tested the waters for the same director (John Schlesinger) to tackle Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971), perhaps the most modern "sexually fluid" drama of its era. Sadly Murray Head can't make up his mind between Peter Finch and Glenda Jackson, so he leaves Merry Ol' England.

Victim (1961) shows its age but was still a ground breaking social conscious film out to prove to mass audiences that being discriminated or blackmailed for a gay affair was no different than being attacked for being black or Jewish.

Fassbinder's Fox and His Friends (Faustrecht der Freiheit) (1975) was criticized at the time for presenting the "gay world" of West Germany as shallow, but I don't find anything wrong with it. It is just the story of a simple guy who wins the lottery and thinks he finds love and happily-ever-after with a young "semi-otter", only to later realize he is being used for his money. The story isn't really about "being gay" so much as struggling to fit in. Also plenty of groovy '74 fashions here. Even in Morocco, El Hedi ben Salem sports the bright orange and white as he gives the two leads a wink. (Check out the heterosexual Ali: Fear Eats the Soul to see him buck naked. One of these days a thread should be started for him in "gallery".)

Weekend (2011) may have a little too much talk and the steamy sex scene is too short, but it is a good "test" film to show your strictly heterosexual friends. It is no more hotsy totsy than all of their "heteronormal" chick-flix, so they have no excuse to start squirming.

Le Monde du silence (The Silent World) (1956) features Jacques-Yves Cousteau leading a sizeable crew of shirtless (i.e. almost-but-not-quite naked) dudes on his Calypso and no woman in sight. Even the Dachshund on board is male. The shots of them together in clusters enjoying peaceful slumber sums it up. The two Kon Tiki movies (both the non fiction film with its peekaboo nudity, 1950, and, the dramatization, 2011) are equally good.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)... C'mon. I don't need to explain.

This shot reminds me of Death in Venice... just the beach setting and clothes. Lol! Now THAT movie is so abstract in its gay attractions that I much favor director Luchino Visconti's much earlier heterosexual black & white Ossessione over it, since at least you see Massimo Girotti shirtless a lot. (Rumor has it the director had his way with the mostly straight star and it is easy to see why.)

This occasionally becomes a topic of conversation on "clothing optional" beaches like the ones at Cape Canaveral National Seashore in Florida. (For example, at Playalinda's infamous lots 13 and 12, the single guys... gay, bi or bored with their wives at home... tend to gravitate to one section and sometimes pay the extra two dollars for a backcountry pass to the wild blue yonder of fun-fun-fun, the hetero couples tend to occupy the middle portions since anything they do won't get them arrested for indecent exposure and the homophobics who don't want any other dudes looking at them while they tan out their asses occupy the other extreme. Just go to where you will have the most insightful discussions.)

    In a nut-shell...

Many between 18-40 and shave are going through a "Gothic" stage. Likely they will also sport tattoos and piercings.
Many between 40-65 and shave mistakenly believe that Just For Men might make you itchy down below. It does not. Trust me.
Many between 65-90 (and there is one 87 year old I have met who still looks young for his age and has no shame to his game) usually have been hanging at the beach so long and have tanned so much that you don't notice one way or the other at first.
Also some shave because they think their manhoods look... bigger.

Since the above post was my first here and I foolishly chose the profile name of "longtime lurker" (which might imply I am some sort of spy or depraved internet junkie), I got a little nervous about it taking so long "waiting for moderation". I went back and did some editing, even though there wasn't anything provocative. (After all, this is the "spa" section, not "deli", so I will not discuss anything beyond the usual "back rub" here. That is all that happens with a masseur, am I right? Or at least the only thing that gets reported.)

Initially when comparing Max to Sean Connery, I mentioned that I have enjoyed my "mantalks" with him and posted the following clip from GOLDFINGER for added humor. I will add it again just in case it is OK.

This clip always amused me because it somehow BELONGS on this thread (massage scene included, although the setting is Miami instead of Orlando) and "mantalk" always means something different to me than to the clueless bikini blonde here. I don't know... maybe I am just amused by how fast James Bond loses interest in HER the moment Felix arrives...

First time poster here. Despite my profile name, I only started "lurking" this past year. No experience in the adventurous world of "deli", but have sampled "spa".

    Regarding the above posts...

First... might as well provide three updated links since Masseurfinder reformatted their site in order to accommodate the Motion Picture Production Code. (Just a little Hollywood history humor there... and we all know why.) These are probably their cheaper "heal" profiles, but you can easily find "relax" on the same site.

I have not met RJ or Tony, but have seen Max a couple times and can vouch for him. I have even contributed a little to his many profile reviews, but... obviously... just because I like him doesn't necessarily mean he's everybody's type. No doubt the RJ fans above will stay happily content with him. (I once saw a YouTube video of him showing off his acrobatic skills, but I wouldn't be able to find it now.) I have viewed Anthony's profile periodically over the past year or two. He "reads" as a nice steady "what you see is what you get" type. Apparently he also does (or did recently) four hands work with a partner.

Like RJ, Max has profiles on two other sites that are more descriptive. I like the Rentmasseur interviews because they reveal a lot about the guys' personalities.

He is quite talkative and philosophical, but also a disciplined perfectionist with nice big hands and good intuition.

It was mentioned among his reviews that he resembles the younger Sean Connery... and, yeah, I can vouch for that too. Somewhat different personality and replace a British-Scottish accent with a Spanish one. A much better singer than Sean, if you prod him to. At the time of my first visit a while back, I was going through a very dark period in my life and he... has been a very positive influence on me, personality-wise.

    Going a bit off topic...

I have enjoyed visiting this forum with all of its highly intellectual discussions (including the political threads). I can't begin to appreciate all of the hard work those working in spa, deli and other areas ("sacred intimacy" included?) that form the backbone of this forum... some discussing their work here. Some of us had some physical and psychological problems in our past that have stunted us a bit as adults and we need guiding experts in intimacy, regardless how far it goes (since some of us just need some basic bonding experience). Hope I didn't get too windy here.
