@Brian Kevin, your post kind of buttresses what the OP is saying. No one is saying $250 is expensive for an escorting experience, which in reading your post, you obviously offer. 
We’re saying $250 is expensive for a massage, i.e., JUST a massage. 
 

Rates are getting out of control across the board and masseurs are trying to justify increased costs to significantly increase their rates. I’m not paying over $180 for a 60min massage regardless of what it’s like. The overhead for these masseurs (most of whom operate out of their residence) is not significant and the vast majority don’t even have training.

Just to let everyone know, I had a very good experience this week with “WhyNot Men’s Spa” NYC.  First time there and it was a half price day and the service was great.  Excellent manicure and pedicure too.

Plus i'd add RM profiles provide other stated physical characteristics like height, weight etc... that could be important to some clients creating more efficiency and effectiveness for both the client and masseur's time.

When I started hiring masseurs, I would go to Masseurfinder, but lately the number of guys on MF has decreased. Maybe because it is more expensive and has a lot of restrictions.  Now I find myself going more and more to Rentmasseur.

Almost two years later, I'd amend my previous post to read as follows (prices are for NYC and might be lower in some metro areas):
My impression is:
1. A minority of MF advertisers are therapeutic only.  Most of these are priced in the $140-160 range and many perhaps even most are certified/licensed.
2. A majority of MF advertisers are OK with MT and provide HE, occasionally more, possibly depending on attraction or on how many sessions you've had together.   Some of these require an upsell for some or all services beyond therapeutic with pants on.  At most, probably less than, half of these are certified.  Some of the uncertified are nonetheless pretty decent masseurs; some are not.
3. A minority of MF advertisers, usually indicated by a higher price, are more of an escort than a masseur.  I'd be surprised if any of these are certified; many are completely untrained and basically stroke or lightly knead your back and butt for a few minutes before getting down to other business.  The best of them as masseurs are self-taught to, at best, an amateurish level.  Some of the higher priced masseurs, however, do not offer full service but can charge what they do simply because they're hot and, with upsells, you'll end up paying escort prices for a good massage but less than full service or, if you don't pay the upsells, you'll end up paying $200 or more for a mediocre massage and frustration or, at best, a DIY HE.  Some lay out the upsells ahead of time; many do not but wait until you're on the table/bed.
4. Some of #2 and most of #3 are on RM as well as MF.  Almost nobody from #1 is on RM.
5. Almost all RM advertisers go beyond therapeutic.  As with those on MF, for at least some an upsell is involved, especially if the base price is in the $150-180 range.
6. Many RM advertisers are more of an escort than a masseur, as described in #3, especially if the price is $200 or more.
7.  Some, maybe half or more, of #3/#6 are on Rentmen as well as RM.
8.  There are advertisers on Rentmen that appear to be offering only massage.  They are mostly #3/#6 but some might fit better into #2/#5.

I am not yet vaccinated so holding off, but personally I would have no problem getting a massage from him.
 
If you want a nice massage from a handsome dude in his 30s and walk away with a happy ending, he is your guy. I've seen many posts here on the forum where members are very critical of companions. Including their age, their pics, their unwillingness to go beyond the service agreed to and of course their hourly rates.
 
Mutual respect and kindness goes a long way in having a good experience.

I know several providers that update their ads to not available when they have no more appointments that day or have an illness and are unable to see clients.  They feel it is important to keep the ads up so people know that they are unable to meeting, but will be taking appointments in the future.

Saw him late last year. I had the exact same experience as the posters above - right down to him being on grindr at the end of the massage. I left feeling like I was inconveniencing him by even being there. I definitely wouldn’t recommend. 

I had a very similar experience. Would not repeat or recommend.

I tried him when he was the only one who responded to me.
He was sweet in text, but kind of cold in person.
He gave me time to undress but it took him awhile for him to comeback and start the session. In hindsight, it shows his lack of interest. Massage over all is ok, but he was not trained. He will inform you that he'll sit on your back which got me excited for a moment, but got disappointed. He said (I didn't ask), that massage is going to be naked, and i am allowed to touch. Not only was he wearing shorts, I got the vibe that he doesn't like to be touched. It was already quiet obvious that i was reaching for something, but to no avail.
He didn't scrimp in time, but to be honest, half way in, I had thought of asking him to stop so I can just go home and sleep.
By the time the session is over, there was no talk at all. I asked a couple of non-threatening, and he didn't look up to answer. Because of the color scheme, it was obvious that he was on Grindr. I would never repeat, neither would I recommend.

I have seen this guy in the past (pre-covid) in Fort Lauderdale. PM me if you would like details. The massage is not bad but it is basically therapeutic only. 

I had a massage scheduled this past Saturday with one of my favorites. He cancelled on Friday morning because the previous Sunday he had been exposed to monkeypox (he was at brunch with and had smooched on a friend who was hospitalized a couple of days later).
As of Friday, my masseur hadn't shown any symptoms, but he didn't want to risk it. Really appreciated that -- he could have seen me, took my money, and not said a word.

I know this probably isn’t what you meant in this particular case since it seems like the inconsistency for SFGoodBoy goes to areas beyond the massage skills and extras, but you spurred some thinking on my end:
I think consistency is important when it comes to massage skills and overall demeanor towards clients, but is it a little unreasonable to expect consistency when it comes to “extras”? If I’m seeing a massage provider, the primary goal is to get a massage, and anything beyond that is extra, even if I’m paying for a sensual/erotic massage, because I think that choreographing everything that you expect to happen kind of ruins the experience. If it proceeds to the point of full on penetrative sex, I mean, everyone has a preference/position right, and we can’t expect a provider who prefers bottoming to top a client or a provider who doesn’t like to receive oral sex to want to let their client do that with them.
 
So when someone says “the extras were good”, it’s really subjective to what that person brought to the table and whether it was a match with the provider’s preferences. That’s why I appreciate when I reach out for more specifics on someone’s experience with a provider, so I have a better idea of what to expect (or what not to expect!) before deciding if I want to take a chance or not.

@PaulM is spot on.  My experience has been that the pricier the massage the less likely one is to actually get a good massage and value for what paid.  It’s everywhere that guys with little skill and an attractive enough body pic are charging $200 for a 60 min massage and giving very little. I get that post-pandemic fees are higher and people are trying to make a living, but the value for the paying customer has to be there too.  The guys that are consistently good don’t have to charge high fees because they have a trusted client base built on a solid reputation, repeat service, and reliability.  Some (in my experience) don’t even advertise anymore. So  high escort range prices, beware.

I have not followed threads on this topic, but there are four possible explanations, three of which are more palatable than the other.
A good explanation: He's cautious about his own safety.  He's trying to get a vibe on who this person really is and whether he should invite the client into his home.
A good explanation: He has a day job and he has to maintain some level of discretion and wants to make sure the client isn't his boss or the guy who is in the next cubicle.
A good explanation: He is running a business and wants to make sure the guy is a real person who is actually going to show up and pay help him pay the rent.
A bad explanation: He wants the client to be hot.

Saw him recently. Way over priced and with  little to no skills.  Nice body and nice enough guy, though but wasn’t all that into it.
