I too thought about why stores liquor stores like Binny's here in the Chicago area, that only sells beer, wine, liquor, cigars, mixers, and a few snack foods remain open, but decided it's probably a fairness issue. Why not, every single grocery store, CVS, Walgreen's, Meijer, and most Targets, and Walmart (to some extent) in my area also sell beer, wine, liquor, and snack foods. The thing that gets me is why the Mayor of Chicago would pose for a photo with the person that cut her hair last week, while every other barber/hairdresser/stylist/colorist in the entire state is unemployed.

Reconsidering Urban Mass Rapid Transit & High Density Housing
+ bashful replied to Epigonos's topic in The Lounge
In Chicago, Metra is a commuter rail line between suburbs and city. Many of the closer in suburban Metra stations/stops have "downtowns" with higher density housing of condos and apartments within walking distance near the station. I live in one of them, and can easily walk the two blocks to the station to get on the train into the city, and did so many times when working in the loop. As the real estate market improved, our suburb began a building boom. While the sale prices of our condos were actually dropping on average. Seems everyone wanted to rent, not own. A seven story apartment building went up next to our condos, a four story apartment building is being constructed across the street, a huge loft/townhouse/apartment complex began construction on the other side of the train station, and just last February, it was announced a public works building, and another commercial building downtown would be cleared for apartments. The seven story building next to us opened for occupancy in January. I know few want to move in winter, but it was mild this year, and today, the new building is mostly dark in the evening. The four story building will probably be completed as they have built the exterior for all four floors, but you never know. The loft/townhouse/apartment complex was in the excavation phase, and construction on the parking garage has begun, but it doesn't look like there's much progress since. Could be that builder is following the stay at home order while the four story builder has workers there every day. It will be an interesting year or two for us in our little "downtown" -
From when I was a kid and we went to Friday night roller skating at the local recreation center. I saw my little brother kissing a girl after she fell.

When I was in college, I waited tables at a dive bar that booked mostly heavy metal bands. Not at all my taste in music, but I got paid cash every night, and got a few measly tips from the college crowd. I also think that is how I currently have some minor hearing loss. One of the heavy metal bands that rotated through the bar once a month sang a version of "On the Sunny Side of the Street" that I really liked. Total opposite of their repertoire, upbeat. I always looked forward to hearing it. I never heard that song before then, and never realized what a classic it was. Today, with so many renditions of the song, I haven't found a version anywhere close to what i remember the band played, but for your listening pleasure, I picked this rendition, very different.

One last one for tonight.

I went a little overboard. Perhaps too much time indoors. I'll end with this (but reserve the right to add later)

Mostly because of social distancing.

My box of masks from Newegg.com arrived today as scheduled. (I notice I said Thurs., not Tues. in first message). They were actually $29.99, but no shipping charge, so with tax, total just under $32.00. As for Amazon, and overpriced expedited shipping on the box of masks, we'll see. It says in transit, but still in China, the other still says label created, but not in system. Not going to be in a hurry to use Amazon as my go to for online purchases. I'm beginning to think Prime ain't worth a dime.

Not so much more, just starting earlier in the afternoon.

The guy on the left reminds me of Jeff Daniels.

Here in Chicago, I’m beginning to wonder whether all this will slow down the trend of corporate relocations into the city, and suburban office parks will rebound.

Wishing you strength and peace @starman05

Regarding masks, the problem is getting them. All local stores, and retailer’s websites are sold out. Last two times I went to the grocery store, wore a winter scarf. Back on the 7th, I went on Amazon and ordered a box of 50 masks, and 3 washable masks. Amazon said the box would arrive between 15th and 20th, and washable masks would not arrive until the 30th at the earliest. Checked today, and all it says for the box of 50 is “label created, not yet in system” (USPS), and for the washable masks, just says “label created“ (UPS) in China. That was the same info I got when I looked at the tracking info on the 9th, and on the 10th. And, I paid for expedited shipping for the box of masks which was about $35, while the cost of the box of masks was $24 or thereabouts. I think I’ve been scammed and will never see them. So, on the 10th, I searched online some more, and found a box of 50 at Newegg.com. They limit sales to one box only. A couple bucks cheaper than Amazon, and no extra charge for shipping. Tracked it yesterday, and it says “in transit” from California, should get it by Thursday, the 14th. Keeping my fingers crossed. Those winter scarfs and old pillow case bandanas are hard to breath through without fogging up my glasses.
