Who chooses their sexual orientation?

Ok...so now we are done with the arguing. Would love to hear someone who wants to contribute their story. Are you trapped by biology ? -
Who chooses their sexual orientation?
pubic_assistance replied to pubic_assistance's topic in The Lounge
I thank @musclestuduwsfor this comment. And I agree that any insistence that no one can possibly determine their sexual preferences simply because SOME of you feel it was never a choice ..is indeed a push toward totalitarian group-think. This constant beating of ONE viewpoint to prevent an open discussion is a fine example of how fascism infests society. So without going down the road to political discussion let's get back to the conversation at-hand. Who else amongst the members here stuck his toe in both waters and decided that heterosexuality is not for me. How did you know and what did you feel ? How much did social pressures influence your lifestyle choices ? Thank you to all members who have thus far contributed. And welcome to any members who also want to add that "choice" was not an option for you. -

@UnicornYou're behaving like a child. Please stop hogging the thread and let other people participate. So far there have been several interesting contributions from members but you insist on inserting your own nonsense after every person disagrees with your antique viewpoint Some people are simply more informed than you. Just accept that fact and move on to another conversation. You're like a child throwing the monopoly board into the air because you weren't winning. I haven't had a single "problem" with anyone's opinion ( including yours ). What I have a problem with is you hijacking a conversation that others are actively contributing to. Everyone else understands the question. So please stop trying to turn this into an argument and just let people discuss. -

@Unicorni have now asked you multiple times to stop trying to disrupt this conversation thread. You've made your point heard *ad nauseum*. Lets be respectful to the other members and stop ridiculing people's opinions that differ from your own. -
Anyone familiar with mortimluca, from NYC.

He's a cutie. But I've never seen him listed in NYC. I would have remembered that handsome face. -
How will you pay for escorts in retirement?
pubic_assistance replied to Constantine's topic in Personal Finance & Investing
My retirement strategy was, and is, investing in income-producing real estate. When I retire I will likely sell my New York townhouse for a tidy profit and re-invest the profit in more rental properties. John Jacob Astor once said: "The key to success is owning as much property in Manhattan as you can get your hands on". -

THANK YOU. Sadly there are a couple members here who will NOT read this because they hopelessly cling to their antiquated "born this way" narrative. None the less if someone feels they never could have considered a heterosexual relationship than that is their journey and no one needs to question its authenticity. I am however more interested in hearing about how the process of deciding went for others. I identified as straight in High School and early college years... Gay in my 20s then bisexual in my 30s until today. But all of those labels were primarily a matter of who I was in relationships with not necessarily following my sexual habits. In the end I have always been bisexual..and we are seeing more and more young people identify based on a bisexual starting point not heteronormativity. -
Anyone feel like a lot of providers are rude via text?
pubic_assistance replied to INQUIRER1's topic in The Deli
Well...that isn't always true. "Ask me" is quite a common component of the rates section. So I am forced to ask . The second most common need to ask is availability to host ( where and when ). So I don't need to text you if you're too expensive or hosting somewhere inconvenient or working hours that are inconvenient..but that's not always apparent in the ad. So a quick response in messenger keeps me off your text threads on your phone. -

pubic_assistance replied to INQUIRER1's topic in The Deli
Personally I don't understand why so many providers insist on conversation being moved immediately from website messaging to text. Seems that it would be less annoying to have the basic questions worked out on the site messenger before you end up with dozens of losers texting with you in your phone and asking for close-ups of your dick or asshole. -

No. I'm not I simply tried to rephrase the same question in a different way since some people are going off track and talking about other stuff. Like you. You've made your point multiple times. But it has nothing to do with what I'm asking. Your gay / you've always been gay. We get it. Congratulations.🎉But it doesn't work that way for everyone. I'd like to hear from other members now. Especially those who had more of a journey in deciding their sexuality but if someone felt it was never a choice then that's their answer. -
Not that I search out gay novels but I've picked up a few to read over the years. I would say Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" was definitely gay erotica (Ignore the film. They cut all that out of the script). Evelyn Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited" is a gay story of unrequited love. Quite romantic.

Who chooses their sexual orientation?
pubic_assistance replied to pubic_assistance's topic in The Lounge
We are getting way off topic. No one is questioning whether homosexuality exists. The thread is about people who have had heterosexual relationships in the past but decided that a homosexual relationship ( or single homosexual lifestyle ) better suited their needs. -
Who chooses their sexual orientation?

That's what we're discussing. That segment who are bisexual. Obviously some people never have same sex attractions and some never have heteronormative attractions. But I am saying far more people are making choices today, than what the old research showed was possible. -

Outside of humans, Dolphins, and Bonobos two of the major groups that are generally bisexual creatures. Their bisexuality doesn't prevent them from mating, but some members of the group do prefer their same sex partner for cuddles. I find the subject interesting, to continue to study how much of this is biology, how much is psychology and how much is sociology. Clearly the new batch of American 20 somethings weren't BORN more bisexual than their parents. Social acceptance has allowed the natural biology and psychology to perform naturally. It will be interesting to see the proportion of homosexual and heterosexual relationships as these young people mature. Will it settle back in to the often quoted 10% gay ? -

You are arguing over the term norm, because you're misdirecting it's target. I am saying norm in terms of biological reward for sex. Obviously I'm not saying homosexual activity is not normal. It's "normal" in the sense that it's always present. -

Heterosexuality in animals is a reproductive process. Homosexuality is a process whereby two animals go through the actions of reproduction but while being fully aware that no reproduction is possible. So heterosexuality is easily explained but homosexuality not. I think studying the cause of homosexual behavior in animals would certainly be an interesting subject because homosexuality IS the exception, not the norm. There is no reproductive goal in homosexual activity, so the sexual activity lies outside nature's norm, for every species, which is reproduction. -

There are certain people here who never consider that someone else may have a valid point, so they don't even bother reading what you wrote before they respond. -
Russian boy. I wonder if he's a scammer like all the others.

I'm married with kids, but bisexual, so I am conscious of the gay scene, even when I'm not directly participating. Costa Rica's tourism is primarily resorts on the beach. Great for a couple's get away but there is no access to any kind of social scene outside the resort itself. The only gay hotels are tiny little guest house situations where at most you'll be there with a handful of other guys. The Capitol city is in the middle of the country far away from the beaches and the gay scene there is nothing to speak of, not to mention San Jose' is sort of a shit-hole of a city. They even have road signs near the downtown area warning you that you are entering a slum. Puerto Vallarta is great. I actually started going there many years ago when I was single and traveling with gay friends. Definitely lots of options for the gay traveler in the "Zona Romantica". Food scene is great, weather is great. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommended. Leave Costa Rica for when you're old and you just want to sit quietly and hold hands on the beach. 😉

What's anecdotal is your opinion. It's just your opinion, you're not looking at the data. Current sociological research is showing a significant increase in people who identify as bisexual. This runs concurrent in countries with a relaxed attitude toward social acceptance of such behavior. So the obvious conclusion is that Bisexuality is a far more common state of being than past research identified. Your biology may determine where you fall on the scale of bisexuality but when you decide to settle down with ONE partner you're going to need to make a choice. Bisexuals can choose to gay or choose to be straight in their relationships, but they will always remain bisexual.
