  1. True/ not true. Where I lived in PA many of the towns are along the Susquehanna. Since the river floods regularly, many of the towns have some sort of flood wall, or dike system. Because of that, these areas are ( foolishly ) not considered to be in the flood zone. But dikes fail and when they do, the Government has covered the damages for those who were not insured. Many of these families have lived in these home for decades. Long before mortgage holders, expected flood insurance.
  2. Actual ephebes, or is that an euphemism for something else ? There were several army ROTC guy in my fraternity in college who I had the hots for. Found out year later some of them fooled around with other guys. Missed the boat on that. I had no gaydar for bisexual guys back then.
  3. In my case it was an ill-timed transition from one investment strategy to another. I ended my relationship as an investor in a restaurant group and deposited the funds in two accounts until I decided my next move. My clients are all meeting with risk-management advisors this week because some orders come in with payments of a million dollars or more. The check goes into one operating account and orders are made against these funds. Now they are thinking this is more risky than considered before. So for some people and some businesses the timing of large sums being there at the wrong moment are the issue.
  4. To be clear: the RATE of inflation has eased. Prices have not and will not go back to previously "normal" levels. Lower-income and middle-income earners are suffering, so spending on anything but basics is cut off. Which affects the retail sector and that slow down affects multiple others.
  5. Mourning the loss of his boyfriend's life since early this year. Eventually he's going to get back to business..
  6. Been getting those for years. Always a scam. Just block. Always the same formula so easy to see it coming .
  7. Respectfully; that is old information. Narco-terrorism is a real problem in Mexico and it's spreading into most of the minor resort areas too. To date, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Cancun have managed to negotiate an understanding with the drug cartels to allow their streets free of the violence. But other areas like Playa del Carmen, Guadalejara and Acapulco are becoming increasingly dangerous, beyond comparison to the US cities you've mentioned. Yes, the border towns have always been sketchy, but now many of them are 100% under control of drug cartels and completely off limits to US. tourists, with murders in the 10's of thousands annually. The states of Nuevo Leon and Veracruz being the most dangerous. I've been all over the country and have many friends there. There are multiple destinations I have been to, that I wouldn't risk visiting today.
  8. I think what he was referring to was an example of a natural disaster. If your house is under-insured and it burns down you're screwed. If it's destroyed in a flood, FEMA will often (not always) cover the additional loss.
  9. Very concise and informative. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us.
  10. My friends in Finance are saying the Government and Media are working overtime to stop the bleeding by putting a positive spin on things. They told me not to Google anything. News reports are all being heavily redacted. Insiders are all sourcing their information from DuckDuckGo.
  11. They had chocolate chip cookies at First Republic today. I don't think ANYONE had an appetite.
  12. It needs to stay rhetorical, as the politics forum remains closed for repairs.
  13. Apparently SVB's Chief Administrative officer Securities was a former Lehman Brothers executive....so I am thinking this is more than just a coincidence. I smell a rat in the pudding.
  14. My apologies. I meant to type, "not JUST ask for advice on a conversation thread". Yes, it's always reasonable to ask for opinions, but in this case this could be the sign of a medical condition. So professional advice is important here.
  15. MY you DO get around town !
  16. Unfortunately I chose a "second bank" that collapsed just at the same time the main bank is struggling to keep everyone from jumping ship. I stopped by the branch office today. It was like that scene from Titanic when everyone was panicking while the band still played. They were doing their best to put a good face on it. Some very elegant mature woman greeted me at the door. I think she was senior management. You could see the panic in their eyes and hear it in the crack of their voices as they assured me everything was just fine. "Only a bump in the road", they claim.
  17. Sadly, I had money at Signature Bank too. ( although not a huge amount ). So annoying that I have to be dodging bullets like this. First Republic and Signature were the last of the "gentleman's banks" for upper middle class business people who wanted a personal relationship with a live person, a comfortable chair to sit while attended to and the last shred of dignity, where for a few hundred thousand, you felt important. Now you need to be a billionaire to get any service or respect from any bank.
  18. HIS watches are far more expensive than $ 20K. I don't think he has any interest in competing with Macy's ..so no. He clearly doesn't care about the rest of the market place.
  19. II bought them for my parents who don't live "alone"... they live together, but my 83 year old father has a habit of falling over and my mother tries to catch him. I worry that they are both going to knock each other down and break something and not be able to get up. My mother still does the shopping so my father is sometimes alone for a couple hours. They don't need to think about it with the watch on their wrists and it also alerts them when they have a message etc. Reasonable user-friendly for older people who may not be tech-savvy.
  20. I suppose its possible to be borderline illiterate and still provide a good happy ending.
  21. Stock photos. Unlikely to be the same guy you're going to meet. There is this attitude with East Asian guys that Americans think they all look alike. I've seen many of these types of accounts with multiple photos of multiple people as if you wouldn't notice.
  22. Thank you for sharing your experience. I found this same culture in Turkey. Particularly Istanbul, where many of the handsome young men take a male "lover" until he marries. Homosexual activity is on the up-tick with these "situational homosexuals" because now the girls want to get a college degree before they marry. There are many bath-houses in Istanbul, that have a reputation for being virtual brothels, with a primarily immigrant ( mostly Syrian and Kurdish ) masseurs who service unmarried men. Homosexual is a term reserved for men who never marry. Even if you continue to get your dick sucked by young refugees, in marriage, you're still not considered a "homoesexual". Bisexuality is quite common, yet the word doesn't seem to exist in their vocabulary. It's a one-eye-open/ one-eye-closed part of their culture.
  23. He's quite an interesting character. Always enjoy his wit and humor. Deals with many of the richest people in the world.
  24. In your house ? I keep my phone in my back pocket when out-n-about, but when I'm home that would be uncomfortable while sitting on a chair or sofa, so it's most often on a table somewhere beside me. On a daily basis, I get up to do something and leave it there, sometime for hours until I get a call and I hear the faint ringing from another part of the house. Apple makes a smart "watch" with an emergency feature. I think for an elderly home-alone this product is the most practical, as you don't have to carry it around, or wear it around your neck (in a somewhat ridiculous manner) like the First Alert alarm.
  25. His Twitter account has some hot teasers for his ONLYFANS The boy seems to know what he's doing whether topping or subbing
