Exactly. What I can't seem to find in the data that's available online is statistics about how many otherwise-seemingly-heterosexual men have been accused of molesting boys. I would assume this is a category, since as you stated pedophilia and sexual identity are different.

I was curious because I'd never even thought about the subject before this conversation thread. I can tell you I came across a few articles that made the same claim. That the incidents are "equal". But this claim runs into the same problem. If the incidents of boys molested by men and girls molested by men are "equal" that does mean a higher PERCENTAGE of homosexuals are guilty when you factor in that the population of gay men is far less than heterosexual men. ( Which they are not mentioning) and therefore distorting their conclusions. I can only guess these articles are written specifically to dispell the stereotype by deliberately misinterpreting the numbers. Unemployment does the same. Numbers are always quoted as number of people who are actively collecting unemployment insurance instead of including the number of people who are unemployed long past their insurance runs out. Makes for a better statistic. As with all data you need to compare apples to apples and not be tricked into an incomplete comparisons to make a point .

Just checked out 7.0 ( I've been avoiding it ). A little difficult to navigate. Reminds me of driving along thousands of billboards and trying to figure out where the actual road signs are. One thing I found curious is there's a section of filters with colored stars you can select..but with no explanation of what the different colors represent. Anyone else see this new feature ? You're right about equal amounts of young girls and young boys reporting inappropriate sexual behavior from adults. Both about 25%. But you can't say that's equal when only 10-15% of the general population are gay. 85% of the population committing 25% of the crime vs 15% of the population committing the other 25% is a VERY different thing. When you do the math the statistic actually shows a MUCH higher likelihood of gay men to engage in inappropriate sexual activity with underage boys. I'm going to asssume that everyone who's claiming it to be "equal" is also forgetting to do the math. But as @marylander1940 pointed out these incidents could be conducted by bisexual or homosexual men. There doesn't seem to be any clear statistics about how many of the men who abused boys were homosexual v.s. bisexual. ( Or even how many of the girls).

That statistic alone would demonstrate a higher ratio of homosexual molestation. If 75% are heterosexual and 25% are homosexual, and only 10% of the population is homosexual...That would mean gay men are significantly more likely to be a child molester. Where did you get that 75% statistic ?

Teenagers disappointed that they won't be jerking-off to THIS issue. Curious how much is photo-shop and how much is good plastic surgery. Personally if I were an 80 year old woman, I'd have gone for a less revealing swimsuit. Sagging old titties are a turn off.

When I was in High School and College my gay friends thought I was just kool and open-minded because I would hang out with them. So, even the gays couldn't see my same sex attraction. So not so sure that's true. I think bisexuals have always had a better cover.

The subject of the thread is GAY in the 50s., not bisexual in the 50's.

The "gay" scene in Long Island is minimal compared to the bisexual community. There has always been a tremendous amount of married men who don't identify as gay but who DO like to get-off with guys. Therefore there always has to be a component of strong hetero-normative sexual visuals added for their degree of deniability about the possibility they might be gay. Book stores / video shops etc will be surrounded with straight porn while they suck dick. This is why many of these kinds of places are busier during the day. Most of these men need to get home to their wife and kids at night.

Again: I said NOTHING about comparative evidence to say that gays molest children more. Not did I "promote" a stereotype. I added information about WHERE the stereotype comes from. That's all. When discussing a subject of stereotypes, the analysis of origin may not be pretty. But yes...to be clear: this inappropriate behavior is separate from hetero or homo sexual identity. As a matter of fact, it's not unusual for heterosexual men to abuse boys. Making the predatory behavior something other than sexual attraction. The 1950s were a period of great social change after WWII where people were returning to a more puritanical behavioral model as a way to bind communities and shed "bad" players who didn't fit in. The evils of Nazism were viewed as a social virus that infected the German community. So anyone who was deemed an outsider was viewed as a potential threat. Especially considering most Americans in the 1950s were of German descent. Homosexuals were gaining visibility in the 1920s but had to go back into the closet by the 1950s. Any risk to the community (such as child molesting) was exaggerated as being part of homosexual behavior as a way to marginalize them. That's why the behavior became more associated with gays even though it's not necessarily any more common in gays than straights.

My understanding is that most families who identified homosexuality in their sons pushed them to join the priesthood as a way to sweep the issue under the carpet when they didn't marry and make grandchildren. But even there "relationships" are frowned upon so "mentoring" young boys ends up being a dirty secret place to get off. It's all very dysfunctional yet theres been no movement in the Vatican to call for change this weird custom.

I think gay men and straight men have different agendas when it comes to pedophilia. Gay men (such as closeted Catholic priests) have access issues and turn to young horny boys who are just happy to get off. Straight men prey on little girls with shitty parents who don't provide a loving environment at home. I don't doubt the age issue is more easily swept under the carpet than the mix of homosexuality and pedophilia. I had a great-uncle who fooled around with a few of my male cousins. One day he offered to take me for a ride in his new convertible. I jumped in and my mother came storming out of the house screaming: "get OUT of that car NOW". When I look back; it was interesting that they all KNEW about him but hadn't ostracized him completely. Just kept an eye on his behavior. Uncle Jimmy was a product of the 1950s puritanical environment that forced people like him into the closet..and his needs were met in places he shouldn't have been looking .
