I’ll contradict your experience a bit. I went to my Publix on the east coast of Florida. Way worse than last week. Most people were walking in and out with nothing. Never seen so many empty shelves.
If you need potato chips you would fine.

I’m headed to Hong Kong next weekend on my way to Bangkok and Hanoi. I’ll be there for a few months. I have friends there so we don’t go to big tourist areas frequented by Chinese tourist. I’ll be keeping a close eye on what’s going on. If it blows up in Thailand I’ll look to coming back to the US.

Why do you make assumptions? So sorry your parents never taught you what happens when you assume.

I played tennis avidly for decades. I still follow the sport passionately. Winners find a way to win. Losers find excuses.

I would post more, but the first day of play at the Australian is in full swing. Gotta watch!

I have been lucky in the jet lag dept. I live in Bangkok half the year. I take midnight flights over and get to my condo about noon. Just go on with my day and go to bed about 9pm, sleep all night and fine next day.
Coming back, I go either Cathay thru Hong Kong, or Qatar thru Doha. l leave about 9am and get home about 10pm. Just go to bed and have no issues next day. I know jet lag is an issue for a lot of people, but I also think some people obsess about it so much before trip it’s just worse than it needs to be. I used to fly to Bangkok about 6 times a year so got used to it. Now that I spend 6 months there, I only do it a couple of times a year. I came back last Thursday and the Hong Kong Boston leg was only 14 hours because of winds. Got in 1-1/2 hours early.

I think some of it has to do with inconsistent flight loads. Many days half full and many days full. But does seem more seats are purchased closer to departure date. So they offer a few cheap fares early on. Also Bangkok has so much competition fares can be lower than most places in SE Asia.

I have a friend in Boston that has taken this flight 3 times and a forth coming up next month. He connects to Bangkok. As @Benjamin_Nicholas mentioned this flight has been going since last fall. There is no regular economy , only Business and Premium Economy. Both classes come with a bit of enhanced service. If you book business class far enough out and a bit flexible with your dates, fare can be in the $3500 range.
He likes Singapore as an airline but he likes their fares.
I fly to Bangkok via Cathay Pacific but in the end we arrive about the same time.

Anyone else tune in for Rent Live on Fox Jan 27?

Except, it mostly wasn't live, because Roger broke his foot during dress rehearsal Saturday. So Fox aired the dress rehearsal, which had been taped. Only the final scene was live, showing Roger seated, leg elevated and wearing an orthopedic boot, as he sang the final love song to Mimi.

Overall, I thought it was a good performance. Thought there were a few misses, couldn't help wondering what they would have tweaked/corrected after dress rehearsal. I thought Jordan Fisher as Mark was fantastic. Got a chuckle when they held up the traditional Mark's sweater for a "oh no," decline in the scene where Angel buys Collins a coat. While I thought Tinashe as Mimi was good overall, I thought she was very pitchy in "Out Tonight." Enjoyed Keala Settle's contributions.

The concert-like screams of all the Rent-heads were distracting for me, as were cast members' interactions with the audience... like leaning off the stage to touch hands, like reality-TV talent competitions. A good portion of the lyrics were drowned out by audience screams. It wasn't promoted as "Rent - In Concert." Nice to see the original Rent cast members in the live encore.

Overall, as a fan of Rent, I thought it was worth watching. And my follow-ups will be to take note of Jordan Fisher, and to see if Keala Settle has released any music.

I really do have a Vietnamese BF. I am going through a little medical issue so couldn’t pick dates. Plus he can’t get a visa to come to the US . We live on Bangkok and spend time in Hanoi. Great airport to start your trips. I got about 20 phone calls from friends telling me about the fares. Most of my trips are on Cathay so would have been perfect.

Then there is the other side of the story. I’ll be sitting home alone watching tv all day. It is my choice mostly.
I need to travel to get to family or friends, and feeling a little under the weather this year. Rather be more comfortable in my own home.

Avalon, for someone who spends a lot of time surfing the web and this site, you don't seem to appreciate the time and effort members spend trying to provide you with good advice and help. (Just MY Opinion, and yes, I know the "implied tone")

When you post the details of your life and the challenges you face with many obstacles, there is an assumption on the part of many on this message board that you are seeking assistance. Is that not the case? If not, I have a few other suggestions for you which I will not post right now (lol).

You are eligible for transportation, to and from doctors and other vital services that you desperately need. Medicare has many, many benefits available to you. Have you called the Medicare hotline. The operators are full of wonderful advice.

I've already given you my best possible advice in many other posts and it comes from experience dealing with my elderly parents, my neighbor, and my deceased lover, who was on Medicaid and other social services. We have several elderly tenants in my building and we've gotten them assistance, such as Meals-On-Wheels and they have all benefited greatly from these programs and one, in particular, after a rather long and intensive hospital/rehab stay now is up and about, and receiving home care. She fought everyone along the way but we proved her wrong.

So do you want help or not? Why are you so reluctant to seek help outside the four walls of you apartment? Are you that afraid? And, no, not wanting to be a burden on others doesn't fly with me as an excuse. Believe it or not, you are already a burden. (whoops! there I go again with that implied tone)

Take a look at this site and let us know if you've done anything. We don't know what state, city or county you're in, so we rely on you to do some work.

My apologies to my fellow Message Board members who may think I've been too rough.

It is sad that you do not recognize the severity of your situation and do so little to help yourself.
You need to call Social Services in your city/town. There are so many benefits you could take advantage of.
You need to set up an interview. You don't need to make any commitments but listen and ask questions.
You should not purchase a walker on your own. A licensed physical therapist should help you decide what make.model is correct you your size and weight and adjust it to fit your needs.
You are probably eligible for home health care and can have someone come in on a daily basis to help you with routine tasks, such as bathing, cooking and cleaning.
(this would also provide you with daily human interaction, so you're not sitting alone pounding on the keyboard.)
They will also assist you in getting to and from a doctors office and other much needed care.
Good luck, the next step is up to you. Make that call!

Ho Chi Minh City is becoming very westernized. Very modern. You would have no problem getting most of the amenities we get in the US.
Hanoi on the other hand is just starting to emerge with internet, cellphones and cars. So still very old world charm. When you get out of the tourist areas it will set you back 50 years.
We come 3 or 4 times a year for my friend to visit family and friends.
I always carry 2 or 3 cloth handkerchiefs to use as my napkins.

Sean I chuckled with your comment of not using napkins. I am in Hanoi now. Even staying in nicer hotels,
You sometimes need to search out napkins . My bf is Vietnamese. Many times when he and friends are sitting
Around eating they will have one group wash cloth nearby If needed. Vietnamese love to fit around on the floor with large group of family or friends. They love their food and are very good at not wearing it, but for the floor
After the meal, that can be a big clean up job.

Depends on plane. Larger planes have restrooms that can accommodate a wheelchair on the inside. Unfortunately the door isn’t big enough. Middle East and some Asian airlines have very large restrooms. Some have showers.
