I've never rated a thread and I wonder how many do. I suspect people with bees in their bonnets about some issue raised might be many of them. And mischievous posters who rate threads like this one poorly to make a humorous point, a sort of meta comment!

Welcome to the forum! I've been reading your posts with interest since you joined and enjoyed your perspectives on the range of topics you've commented on. It's easy to tire of some of the adversarial commentary but I think that is to miss the good points of which I'd say there are many. You may wish to alert client members of the forum to your business by posting a link to any adverts you have in a signature (that will appear on each post you make), but if you want to keep your work and your participation here separate by all means do so. Some may gripe, but it's what you want to do, not what others may prefer, that matters! This place can be fun, entertaining and engaging, it is the sum of us all, and I'd encourage you to be part of it. Bienvenue / bem-vindo!

Moderator's Comment Ladies and gentlemen, since we're in the Cooking Forum now, this is a comment on our framing of what the forum was for, not a warning. The plan was for it to be a place for us to talk about cooking, not about foodstuffs in general, or about restaurants, except to talk about how to cook the foods, or the dishes that a restaurant serves. Plant-based meats are relatively new (as distinct from substitutes that clearly are not meat), so I'm sure there must be particular recipes out there, or experiences in how cooking these products differs from the real thing, that you can add to the existing discussion!

I'm replying to the maths (or statistics) not the effectiveness of PrEP. No, a probability of 99% does not mean that in every set of 100 instances the event (in this case infection) will occur. It means that every time there is a 1% chance of it happening, including the 100th. Probability is calculated by a large number of observations and does not indicate that the event will occur regularly every n instances. Think of tossing a coin. There is a statistical probability that it will fall as a head on 50% of instances, but we know that that doesn't happen every second throw.

Well, an intriguing pair of games to conclude Group H. Germany needed a win over fourth-placed Korea to guarantee they qualified, either first if Morocco defeated Colombia or second with a draw or a Colombian win. They would still have qualified with just a draw if Morocco had drawn or lost. Cue another shock (or at least surprise). The gods were not smiling on the fancied Germans. They were held to a draw by the Koreans, who were beaten in their other two pool games, and Morocco beat Colombia. So Colombia won the group, and will play the Jamaica Reggae Girlz in the round of 16 (Tuesday 8 Aug at 1800 AEST/0800 UTC/0400 EDT) in Melbourne / Naarm and Morocco will face France later the same night (2100/1100/0700) in Adelaide / Tarntanya.

Mod's Note Yes, it would be great but they can't be. Forum guidelines prohibit sharing personal information about others that is not in the public domain, and that includes HIV status. You need a publicly available source that you can cite. 'He told me', doesn't cut it. In the case of a provider, a social media account that they have not identified as theirs is not sufficient (and for users here to use the forum to link a provider to such an account is also not permitted).

As our estimable fellow poster might well say, 'But it's still in Queens!' Far be it from me to comment on any such assessment.

Two games to go in the group stage and if nothing else is clear it's that the countries that are power houses in the men's game are not necessarily the stars in the women's game. On Monday, Australia and Olympic champion Canada both had to win their final game in their group after Nigeria had drawn with Canada and stunned Australia 2-3 in earlier games. To profound national relief Australian not only won but romped it in over Canada 4-0 to top the group. The defending champions USA had a narrow escape in their final game when a Portuguese shot on goal passed the keeper but hit the post, so with a draw the US qualified second in their group. Of course how narrowly you qualify for the round of 16 is immaterial, once you're in you have as much chance as anyone else. Unlike their male colleagues who consistently under-perform in tournaments, the England Lionesses raced to the top of their group beating China 6-1 (and eliminating them). Yesterday brought two big shocks, especially if you're thinking of the men's rankings. South Africa scored in injury time to beat Italy 3-2 to qualify at their expense (in the same group Argentina had a single point from a draw and two losses), and Brazil are on their way home after the Reggae Girlz held them to a 0-0 draw to become the first Caribbean country to qualify for the elimination stage of a global football competition. Colombia looks set to be the only South American country in the final 16.

ATM withdrawal overseas. WISE card
mike carey replied to Alfstoria's topic in Personal Finance & Investing
I assume you're talking about paying a foreign provider in US dollars rather than their local currency. That's fine if they have a use for the US dollars but if they don't they will end up paying their bank the conversion costs that you saved, and since they would be taking foreign currency (USD) into a bank they would receive the banknote rate of exchange and not the better ATM/electronic conversion rate you would likely get. Bottom line, ask them, and if you want to pay in USD accept the rate they quote. The USD may be a default global currency but for anyone selling goods and services where it is not also the local currency, accepting payment in USD or any foreign currency can be a PITA. (Of course if it's a country where there are 'official' and black market rates they may well prefer USD, but that appears not to be the premise of your question!) Your friends who seem to operate routinely across CZK, (SKK?), EUR, CHF and USD would, I'm sure, be happy for a client to pay them in USD but others are likely to be happy with only local and neighbouring currencies. Of course if they were a foreign provider in the US, I'd expect them to take payment (and quote their price) in US dollars.- 26 replies

And those temperatures are in Celsius not Fahrenheit. Minima have ranged from -5.9° (twice) to +7.4°, with an average of -0.2°.

Canberra has had its hottest July on record, apparently by some margin. The average maximum temperature was 14.5° (with a range of maxima from 9.9° to 18.1°).

Moderator's Note Gentlemen, whether claims of sexual assault made late are undermined by the delay is a relevant point to make, but only to the extent that it relates to Spacey's accusers. We've gone as far as we need on the broader subject of why some people delay reporting alleged incidents to the authorities or even discussing them with others. Please limit further discussion to the case in question.

True, but things need to be kept in proper perspective, and the prejudice argument cuts both ways. The fact [sometimes allegation] of a [likely small] number of gay men being groomers can be prejudicially extended to apply to all gay men, or certain classes of them. {Or separately, as they are not all gay, to drag performers.) The existence of an anecdotally higher number of alleged and convicted groomers among, say priests or youth pastors, never elicits claims that all of them are. They are given the benefit of the doubt that the bad actors are 'bad apples' rather than typical of that class of men.

Indeed! While I understand his 'keep out of view' policy, I don't think positive comments in here are the worst thing even if he chooses to ignore them or distance himself from them. I would love him to talk to us here but completely understand if he chooses not to do so.

To answer your original question @musclvr, I think a fair summary of the consensus of people here who have interacted with him on line and/or in person is that he is a good guy. I contacted him on RM messenger (not his preferred comms channel) and received a perfectly civil reply (and keeping the message in my messenger feed allows me to keep track of his current handle without buddy listing him). If he and I were in the same town, New York minute is a term that comes to mind.

Well, that's something of a give-away!

What utter bullshit. If you can't tell the difference between making a snarky allegation and commenting on a question that had already been asked that's your problem not mine. And since I have a fair idea of what you'd say, I'll explain it slowly. I neither made nor implied an allegation, snarky or otherwise. I commented on the OP's question. And don't bother to post another asinine image. In another thread you said an image says a thousand words, although in your case, rarely the ones you think it does.
