  1. CPI, by excluding food, fuel, taxes, insurance is a purposeful lie.
  2. It is NOT 2.9% as food and fuel are excluded. Prices of everything are going higher and higher without end.
  3. yeah, UAW people will get in long lines for those fast-food and other retail jobs. Higher costs from unionization are the reason the Detroit Three are announcing layoffs. Ford announced 1,400 layoffs in March, following layoffs in 2023. Stellantis is having layoffs of 2500 right now. And a lot more are coming. UAW membership fell from 1.5 million in 1979 to 370,000 in 2023. And EV's need 40% LESS workers to produce those cars! So there will barely be any UAW workers left.
  4. Marcus by Goldman Sachs is offering a 1-year CD for 5.00% which is quite good right now. You can open it online.
  5. Quite correct. Inflation is not dead and the price increases of the past several years has devastated the lower and middle classes. Even the upper classes! Property taxes and auto/home insurance rates are now soaring at a double-digit pace. Jobs are being shed as companies try to automate and wages have not kept up with the REAL inflation rate, resulting in less purchasing power to buy goods and services.
  6. And now the automakers are laying off thousands of UAW workers because the price increases on new cars caused by this record pay increase are ridiculous. 90K for a Dodge Ram.....ha ha ha ha ha.
  7. Best not to, unless you have a valid need to. Like moving overseas. There are less protections for investors overseas, generally speaking, and especially as a foreigner. If you want to buy foreign assets you can do that through mutual funds or ETF's.
  8. Just went to Fidelity's website. OMG, all the CD offerings have been withdrawn. Your only hope now is to buy a 6-month T-bill yielding 4.77% at this moment or a 1-year T-bill yielding 4.35%. Or maybe you can find a local bank offering better. Stock markets around the world are crashing, with Tokyo down 10% today as I write this.
  9. Yeah...the crowd is going wild. Just after you posted this everything started falling apart. I've been warning for months that the economy is very unstable.
  10. It seems now is the time to lock in an 18 month (more or less). It looks like the Fed is about to cut rates. Lending Club is offering 5% for an 18-month CD and you can set it up online. FDIC insured.
  11. You forgot to mention that this report, the PCE index, EXCLUDES food and energy. A very inaccurate gauge of what is truly happening! Homeowners insurance is now surging 20-40% all over the country, even in states that don't have hurricanes or flooding or earthquakes. It's all over the news. Conveniently, this isn't accounted for in the inflation indexes. Things are not good.
  12. You are right to a degree. Many Chinese invest in real estate sight unseen and don't understand the risks. And read about Credit Suisse "CoCo" bonds (contingent convertible bonds). $17 billion in bonds that were rendered worthless to the holders as part of Credit Suisse's recapitalization. These bonds are only supposed to be seized if a bank's equity falls to zero. Credit Suisse's equity did not fall to zero. The holders were mostly Asians.
  13. For 1st-3rd graders? I don't know. An interesting thing is that half of US currency circulates outside of the United States and about 2/3 of $100 bills circulate outside the United States.
  14. The headline was incorrect, but the Post article stated the correct numbers from the WSJ. In any case, this is another example of the rapid inflation of the last 4 years and the official numbers provided by the government are bogus. Inflation is much worse than the official numbers of 15% the last 3 years. No one has gotten a 40% wage increase in the last 5 years to keep up with this kind of inflation. Charities are asking for donations of female hygiene products because women and teenagers can't afford them. They are also getting UTI's from using the same tampons.
  15. Really. Any proof to back up that nonsense?? I won't hold my breath.
  16. If you didn’t file a tax return, the statute of limitations never started to run. The statute of limitations applies only when you can prove you filed an income tax return. If the IRS doesn’t have a copy of your tax return, it’s going to assume you didn’t file one, and you have to prove you filed it.
  17. I'm married to paper too. It's a good reflex to keep documents. It helped me tremendously in a guardianship battle between me and my cousins over my elderly aunt. I was able to prove my cousins lied in court thanks to years-old bank statements that my aunt kept.
  18. That's it. Most providers don't like getting personal with their clients. They are just in it for the money.
  19. If it continues clear then you are ok. If you continue to see blood in your urine, then see a urologist asap. Hopefully it will be clear going forward so you don't have to explain the situation. Oh, and drink water. Sounds like some damage to your prostrate or bladder from the exertion. Athletes that work out intensely can get this.
  20. I met him once in NYC. A very affable guy. This sucks. And now Shannen Doherty passed at 53.
  21. Please point that "additional information" out. It's all just the same....."It's the armorer's fault".
  22. No, you do ......"It's always the armorer's fault".
  23. Not checking if a gun is loaded or clearing the chamber before handling it is incredibly reckless. It's essential to always verify the status of the gun yourself. Pointing a gun at someone and pulling the trigger without ensuring it's unloaded is sheer idiocy. And pointing a gun at anyone whether it's loaded or not is idiocy. Baldwin had been firing live shots for target practice for weeks and for some reason decides to point a gun at a worker and kill her. If they aren't filming a scene, why even point that gun at anyone???
  24. You seem to think there is some statute that states..."When a person is killed on a movie set, the armorer is always responsible. The End." Well, there isn't. Baldwin's behavior on Rust was so irresponsible for weeks that many people quit their jobs because they were afraid of getting killed and how prescient they were. He pointed a gun at that woman and fired, and they weren't even filming a scene!
  25. In fact, you did draw a conclusion when you wrote.........."It's a fairly major technicality" as your first sentence and then cite an interview to back that up. FACT: It was a single action revolver, and they are easy to check. Open the loading gate and rotate the cylinder. If you see a cartridge, push the ejector to remove it. Takes a few seconds. Not in dispute. There is nothing exculpatory about the evidence as to Baldwin. Maybe it was as to the armorer, but not him. Yet you called it a "major technicality" as to him.
