  1. Are you talking about illicit sources or by prescription? They haven't been readily available by prescription for 40 or 50 years. Given the number of students and techies who fuel themselves w/adderall to binge work/study, there must be illicit sources for it. It used to be very easy to buy modafinil offshore, but no longer.
  2. The aesthetic is eternal. The buildings, obviously, are not. Around here, the Marin County Civic Center was designed by Wright. From a distance it looks wonderful, like something you would see on one of those idyllic planets the Enterprise visited on Star Trek. But up close, it looks seedy and rundown.
  3. The very best of any style seems to last. People will still be awestruck by the best deco 100 years from now. Bauhaus architecture from the 20s-30s still looks fresh. Buildings from Fascist Italy look like they were built yesterday. Some of the best mid-century architecture still looks relevant. Wright's masterpieces are eternal.
  4. I like that he's going bald and doesn't seem to care. Just keeps it buzzed - no comb-overs, fussy haircuts or shaving bald. He looks great.
  5. Same as above plus no blood, no breath play.
  6. Last summer, I worked with a special trainer at a fitness studio in SOMA to prepare for a fitness event. Every Thursday morning I would see a tall redhead working out who had the most beautiful build. It was the kind of build you see only on tall men - broad shoulders, long arms, softball biceps, big hands, long legs, big calves, lean and athletic. I looked forward to seeing him every Thursday. When my trainer told me he was a firefighter, I thought, "Yep, makes sense." I saw him just the other day in a completely different part of town and my heart leapt.
  7. I think they said he took a spill while cycling or something like that.
  8. No, I don't fetishize military guys either.
  9. I had an older friend many years ago who had CML. He lived with it for 15 years or so.
  10. Agree, they are fun. The airborne captain swept me off my feet. He hadn't asked for anything yet and wanted to meet me in LA when he got back from Turkey.
  11. I wonder if they aren't bots.
  12. Yes, I've had it happen twice. Both times the guys were amazing looking. The first was supposed to be a captain in an airborne unit on a top secret deployment to Turkey. Total hunk. Suddenly, he stopped communicating and his account was closed. The second was a beautiful hunky blond boy in Afghanistan who loved animals. Very quickly, he started asking for little things, ITUNES gift cards, etc. When I grew tired of the game and stopped responding to his texts, he kept texting me, asking what he had done wrong, why was I hurting him so. , etc., etc.
  13. I always used to wonder how anyone knew that it was time for them to start hanging out at the Twin Peaks. I'm almost 66 and I've never been in the place.
  14. He looks pretty ginger to me. Certainly a strawberry blond.
  15. That's truly a bummer. Stay strong.
  16. Welcome. You're a darling man.
  17. The old maids usually were outstanding teachers. I had old maid teachers in 4th 5th and 6th grade and I thrived.
  18. Well, yes, in the abstract it was a personal choice, but, in fact, at that time, not marrying was almost not an option. When I was in grade school, probably 80% of the teachers were unmarried women in late middle age - "old maids" they were called. They seemed to live nice lives. In spite of their teacher's salaries, they all drove nice cars. They hung out with each other and traveled all summer long. But I think of the things my mother used to say about them. Of course, to their faces she was never anything but polite and respectful, but she used to say that they were defective, or abnormal because they weren't married and didn't have children. And I suspect her attitude wasn't uncommon. They were outcasts - serving a worthy function as teachers, but otherwise dismissed. Unmarried men were known as "confirmed bachelors" and were also highly suspect.
  19. That's the thing. Most gay men choose not to have children. And that comes with a price. Not having a family definitely has a price. But most come to terms with the price paid fairly easily when they realize the immense personal freedom that comes with being a childless gay man.
  20. That was in 1990. By then, the feminist movement had matured and recognized that feminism was about women choosing and that choosing to be a housewife/stay-at-home mom was a valid choice. So she wasn't advocating anything radical that hadn't already been thought of.
  21. Agree. I think he's totally hot - I call his type "bookish handsome."
  22. She's made her share of bone-headed remarks. The one that stands out for me is when she and Poppy Bush toured a shelter in Houston during Katrina and she remarked on what an opportunity it was for all these displaced people to get to make a fresh start in Texas. The lines from the Wellsley speech are another.
  23. As the OP pointed out, easy for her to say that- she married well.
  24. Richard Lui, formerly of CNN, now on MSNBC
  25. We have a new one, "Where were you when the towers fell?"
