I see I posted in this thread back when it was new. This isn't necessarily my favorite Bowie song but it's his most iconic one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYjBQKIOb-w Probably my favorite of his up tempo songs:

I think active investment is a fool's errand, although I understand some of you have succeeded at it. (Research shows that over time active management as a whole doesn't outperform the market.) Read John Bogle's book Bogle on Mutual Funds (he founded Vanguard) and invest in a mix of low-cost index funds. Most mutual fund companies can help devise an asset allocation that meets your risk tolerance and investment objectives. General rule of thumb is to invest in asset classes that counterbalance each other, meaning that if one asset class is performing poorly, the other is performing well. (Examples: stocks v. bonds, growth v. value stocks, small cap v. large cap, domestic v. foreign.)

Confederacy has a dumb insulting premise. Why another premise that exploits harm to black people for entertainment, especially when there isn't that much daylight between the premise and reality?

Hideous is in the eye of the beholder. P S. I think most traditional full-color sleeve tattoos are hideous. But that's my opinion and is entirely subjective.

Sex, Politics, Meth and Death in West Hollywood

Remember all those discussions of racial preferences and who gets hired? If Buck is doing what is alleged, he is an example of someone with a dangerous and racist fetish. There are plenty of other people who do less dangerous things to their partners that are also racist (dominating a black man because he's black, using slurs, etc.) or are based on racial stereotypes (black man dominating a non-black partner, prison rape roleplay, etc.) To me, this article is not primarily about drugs. -
In some cases, more like farmer's sunburn.

There may well be other covers of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," but Jo Kwon's is especially fierce. It was his response to people who criticized his earlier cover of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" by (pejoratively) calling him a drag queen. I'm old and decrepit enough to have heard both of them when they came out.

I've only read the last page's worth of entries, but what comes to mind is the following message from South Korean idol rapper Choi Junhong (better known as Zelo), who reassured fans who were worried about him getting a tattoo by stating "Please stop worrying. I have it all under control. I'm not going to thoughtlessly draw on my body as if it's a paper. Paper is sold at the craft store." Source. The image on the tattoo is based on the Marina Abramovic and Ulay art project "Relation in Time," described here: http://en.cafa.com.cn/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Marina-Abramovi%C4%87-Relation-in-Time.jpg Bang Yongguk, the leader of the group Zelo is a part of, has tattoos that read "Make art, not war" and "Viva la revolucion." http://www.allkpop.com/upload/2014/08/content/Jay-Park_1407342876_large.jpg (His older sister is a tattoo artist; I don't know if she's the one who did these tattoos.) He even worked "viva la revolucion" into their latest single, "Wake Me Up."

Three Dog Night covered "One." They did not originate it. Songwriter Harry Nilsson did. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_(Harry_Nilsson_song)

Pretty sure I know based on its meaning in the iconography of Renaissance art.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what "case" means in this context, the most ridiculous part is that Whole Foods would sell a case of water for $5. Also, at least around here, Trader Joe's is less pricey than Whole Foods.

One way a cover can distinguish itself is through gender flipping. In the hands of Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick, David Crosby's paean to a menage a trois with young (and possibly underage) groupies becomes something bordering on revolutionary. Slick's two guys, one girl version of the song, which appeared on the 1968 album Crown of Creation, was its first commercial release, although the Byrds played it live once before Crosby was booted from the group. The version the Byrds recorded but didn't release wound up on the 1987 archival compilation Never Before and was a bonus track on the 1997 reissue of The Notorious Byrd Brothers, the album for which it was originally recorded. More information about "Triad" and the part it played in Crosby's departure from the Byrds here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Notorious_Byrd_Brothers

BTS took Keb' Mo's Delta blues song "Am I Wrong" about an unfaithful lover and turned it into pointed social commentary that seems to anticipate events that happened after the song was (re)written and recorded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QAHJ86sCIg Keb' Mo performing the original live. Note the BTS version is closer to a remake than a cover.

I did not know this was originally a Peggy Seeger song!

@nycman - I didn't know Salt n Pepa's "Whatta Man" was a cover until I did some research after the I.O.I version was released. The original song was written by Dave Crawford and resulted in KKK harassment of Linda Lyndell for associating with black musicians. She quit music for many years as a result. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_a_Man_(song)

When someone says "cover," this is the first one I think of: Johnny Cash singing "Hurt" by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt1Pwfnh5pc Live performance by NIN and David Bowie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7_Te7iDojA

Two covers of "What a/Whatta Man," originally sung by Lynda Lyndell. (I was surprised to learn that the Salt n Pepa/En Vogue version wasn't the original.) More in the oeuvre of "they grow up so fast." source The appeal of holding large full-grown dogs to replicate an earlier photo largely escapes me, but they are fun to look at. -
