  1. Has anyone seen"The Brown Bunny"? 2003, with Vincent Gallo, including explicit sex scenes, and a otherwise a legit contender for most boring and/or incomprehensible movie ever made.
  2. I always thought my fascination with armpits was sort of a "fringe" thing (not that it bothered me), but 39 pages in, I feel validated. :-)
  3. or the old "May/December romance"?
  4. I watched the first 20 minutes or so, and it seemed like it was going to be a bleak story, so like most of you seem to have done, used fast-forward liberally to skip to the sex scenes.
  5. @Guy Fawkes is "phase" misspelled in that chart? :-P
  6. There's sympathizing, and then there's really understanding. I'm 6'2" and big. I don't worry about walking around alone at night. I understand, on an intellectual level, that most women (or smaller men) have that fear; I can't say that I've truly FELT that fear every time I go out. There was an article in this morning's paper from a columnist I enjoy, Leonard Pitts, who said it's long overdue that African-Americans stop having to worry about having to explain themselves For barbecuing. For selling bottled water. For napping in a dorm. For mowing a lawn. For smoking.
  7. The internet says ZAY-zix. I had a personalized car license plate where I tried to duplicate the sector Earth was in, according to Hitchhiker's Guide, Zed Zed 9 Plural Zed Alpha. I got ZZ9SZA, and every time l looked at it I read "Zsa-Zsa".
  8. Oh, I have to bite my tongue or I'd be saying this or something similar a dozen times a day at work.
  9. I subscribe to the local Detroit paper but I read it online, and just recently cancelled all paper delivery of it (which was down to three days a week anyway).
  10. As long as you like dogs, you're fine by me.
  11. A friend and I designed a couple of scavenger hunts. The first was for his youngest sister as her combined bachelor/bachelorette party, men vs. women. The second was for the same couple's 10-year anniversary, and designing one that wasn't too easy given that everyone had smart phones and internet access by that time was difficult. We went overboard, nobody finished the second one.
  12. On a road trip we passed a tanker in a field marked "LIQUID PROTEIN". We took a picture of a friend pretending to drink from the tap. There's this, in Michigan: There's an annual bike trip that goes through there, the t-shirts always have some variant of "I rode through Hell!" on them.
  13. I visited a Vancouver branch office of our company about 10 years ago. I was there for about a week, I loved the city.
  14. Oh, Queens as in the borough. I was looking through the post trying to find out his connection to Freddie Mercury.
  15. I'm in bed by 10:00 because I'm up at 6:00 for work, but I'm definitely not at my best in the morning. When my sister & family stayed with my and my 7-year-old nephew was bouncing around chattering at breakfast, I told him mornings were quiet times at my house. He settled down, and my sister said in amazement "That never works at home!"
  16. I lurked for a long time before posting. Actually, I just focused on the Gallery before I realized how much information there was to be had in the rest of the forum. Doing that, I got a feel for how to search for information before posting questions, how to ask questions in ways that encouraged responses, and I already took some care to write sensibly.
  17. @Gar1eth - you remind me of two memories from grade school. Fourth grade or so (so about 9 years old), the teacher was reading us a book and the story referred to a bird called a 'titfinch'. One kid couldn't stop giggling every time the teacher read that, and she finally grilled him as make him say what was so funny. He never did answer, as I recall. We didn't read The Red Badge of Courage, but watched a movie of it (I've also never seen that movie since). I overheard two of the teachers talking about one of the soldiers at the very end of the movie, something akin to "I'd do him" but more delicately put. I doubt they knew I was listening.
  18. I've communicated with him but not met him, he had listed a trip to Detroit a few weeks ago but the dates in his ad kept changing, I'm not sure if he ever made it here. He's now listed as in Chicago but Detroit as a travel city, and going to LA for a couple weeks. I would still be interested in meeting up with him if he makes it out here.
  19. And this is the first time I've noticed the gay undertones in Bob Balaban & Ryan Phillipe's relationship, when Bob asks Ryan "Will I see you tonight?" on the night Ryan's taking the "warm milk" to Kristin Scott Thomas's room.
  20. I've heard that referred to as "porcelain" skin tone.
  21. Count me in. From being able to drink at 19 by crossing the river to Windsor, to the fully nude dancers at the now-defunct Happy Tap in the same city, I'm an unabashed Canadaphile.
  22. I watched Gosford Park yesterday for the umpteenth time and I never noticed that detail. Written by Julian Fellowes, who'd go on to create Downton Abbey.
  23. We're going through this with my father. He totalled his car earlier this year and we started the process to have him re-evaluated. He cancelled the cognitive test scheduled with his doctor, and on his first try with the state, he failed the written test so they revoked his license without even doing the driving test. He can take the test again, I'm not sure how many times he's allowed to do that. He's determined to get his driving privileges back, and we're scared both for him and for other drivers.
  24. No fair, I've seen this movie. One of my favorites, "Sailor in the Wild", from about 1983 or so?
  25. It's what kept me pet-less for a long time. Then I got a dog when I had a roommate and we were both there to take care of her. Now that he's moved on, I'm a single dog dad, and it's difficult scheduling at times. I go out a lot less, I don't stay out as long when I do go out, and I travel less, or find someplace where I can bring her along. My life's changed and I wouldn't go back to not having my girl for anything.
