So what would have been an appropriate fee? This was 3 years ago and we had arranged the overnight session weeks in advance at my hotel. There is a bug running around in my town which I caught on the weekend. It causes a 24 hour GI upset with the runs but no nausea or cramps or fever. I find it hard to believe someone would mistake a backpack, unless they were the identical model which is extremely unlikely.

There is no simple across the board rule in my experience but I haven't stepped foot in a stripper bar since the pandemic started.
