I find its mixed depending on the provider. When I travel for work I like to try and book several weeks before so I have something thats close to a sure thing. That also gives me a chance to see if I have a good vibe with the provider beforehand or should just move on. I just booked something in CA for early November and it took several tries to find someone I believe was really interested in my business.

Am I overreacting to this being a hard pass (this guy is rather famous, not that it should change etiquette in my view)? After the second time this was requested, I let him know what I thought (in as nice a way as I could), so I probably pissed him off and should just cancel the meet. The meet was setup for in October.

This! I have had amazing times with guys totally out of my league and I abide by this motto. And don't let age scare you. I prefer younger (early to late 20s) and you might be surprised the excellent treatment you receive just showing them a little TLC!

This is so great, you basically have summarized all my struggles with communication in this hobby! I just never feel comfortable talking about this stuff with a provider. I guess I am lucky the strategy I posted earlier in this thread has been mainly successful for me even if it takes a session or two to ultimate get to where I would like to be. For me no matter what the conversation is, if the vibe isn't good it is a one time hire. One of my regulars knows me like a book at this point... other than pleasantries, no words need to be said from either of us. We can just get down to business and have a great time!

I struggle with it too as I don't want to come off as a sleaze bag. I have had the most success developing rapport and setting the appointment without getting into specifics. I then tend to "test the waters" in a first meet to see whats Ok and have been lucky enough to forge a few really nice long term client-provider relationships. Admittedly it took a couple sessions for barriers to go away. My experience has been once both parties are relaxed with one another, great things start happening! I love my sessions with my regulars. That initial patience has paid wonderful dividends.

It's hard to say no to a simple request like that after you experience time with him, but I get it may tarnish his rep a bit. He is new in the US and there is a bit of a language barrier, but nothing that can't be overcome by being a little patient with him. I have found he tends to go with the flow of the client.
