  1. Same goes for female athletes. How else did those East German women dominate the Olympics back during the Soviet era? They report having all sorts of health problems later in life: Health consequences of PEDs continue to plague ex-East German athletes - Global Sport Matters GLOBALSPORTMATTERS.COM East German athletes forced to take steroids suffered damage to their bodies. Many are seeking compensation...
  2. I hope none of you residents of Palm Springs were injured or had your windows blown out. The suspect described himself as a "misandrist" and "promortalist." Well, he killed two birds with one stone by blowing himself up. FBI links California fertility clinic bombing to anti-natalist ideology WWW.NBCNEWS.COM The attack killed one person Saturday and injured four other people.

  4. Don't know if I buy the argument, but Andrew Sullivan claimed that the fashion ad aesthetic in the late 80s took a turn towards fascism (and cited Bruce Weber as an example): Flogging Underwear: How Fascism and Fornication Came to Madison... 5. Fortunately, only 15% of U.S. agricultural products are imported. From what I gather coffee, tropical fruit, some vegetables, and seafood will be the most impacted. And contrary to the belief of some, the cost of tariffs is borne mainly by consumers, not producers.
  6. Yes, prices in inflation-adjusted terms declined over the past 40 years, but why should people suddenly be forced to pay 25% more for the second most expensive item that most people buy (or buy a less desirable vehicle) for no good reason? That 1980s American sedan optioned with "rich, Corinthian leather" was an overpriced piece of garbage, which is why Japanese and other manufacturers have taken most of the market share away from the Big 3. Tariffs allow domestic manufacturers to charge more and reduce quality.
  7. The timing is terrible. Just as the market had begun to normalize after the Covid-related supply disruptions caused crazy price increases for new and used vehicles, the tariffs and the uncertainty surrounding them is causing history to repeat itself.
  8. He outlived EF Hutton and embodied its slogan:
  9. If you personally don't produce all of the goods and services that you use, then you're outsourcing all of those jobs to other people. Until we reach a time where we can all "hunt in the morning, fish in the afternoon, rear cattle in the evening, philosophize after dinner," the division of labor and trade (I personally run a "trade deficit" with every business I trade with except my employer) is the only way to increase people's standard of living.
  10. I would if it caused a fight that resulted in a steamier make up session. 😉
  11. It's surprising that they haven't expanded to nursing care when they would seem to have a customer base with the money to afford it.
  12. Then hurry up and retire in FL so that we can move in before being sent out to pasture to Shady Pines.
  13. You’re definitely not the only one who’s gotten fed up and bounced. It’s sad because it kills what made O.F. special in the first place: feeling like you had even a tiny personal window into someone you admire.. It's honestly frustrating when you're there because you're actually a fan — not just looking for some shallow, scripted attention — and it feels like you're just getting spammed by a machine (or worse, some random assistant pretending to be them). And you’re right: I don't blame the guys either — it is a business — but whoever thought spamming people 24/7 was a good strategy clearly doesn't get that a lot of us want something real (or at least a good illusion of real). It's weird... they’re making short-term money but burning long-term loyalty.
  14. "Victor"/Victoria: King Marchand is an arrogant, opinionated, chauvinistic pain in the ass. Toddy: I think I could fall in love with him. "Victor"/Victoria: I think I could, too." A young James Garner (who played King Marchand):
  15. The seller is not completely off base. Upgrading RAM and storage drives is common on older computers (I did it to mine), but it's probably not worth it if the CPU has not been upgraded to a chip that is recent enough to allow use of Windows 11 (without extraordinary measures like modifying the registry).

  18. Natty=natural bodybuilder (no steroids). Red Dye No. 3 (correct number is 3 not 5)=synthetic food coloring recently banned. I.e., I think he's on steroids.
  19. He's as natty as Red Dye No. 5.
  20. I've found the staff at the Ralphs in PS to be much more helpful than those at my local Ralphs in LA. As for pricing on the middle shelves, it's location, location, location! Products on the middle shelves are the most expensive because they're at eye level for most people (who are more likely to buy those products), so grocery stores charge a premium to wholesalers to have their products placed on the middle shelves. Notice that sugary cereals tend to be located on the lower shelves because that's eye level for children:
  21. In this American's mind, a "phone torch" looks something like this:
  22. They got it right in the 1980s. I don't want to see the kitchen from the main living areas. I doubt whether Lady Violet ever entered the kitchen.
