Canada opens their LGBTQ+ Suicide Hotline to Americans
Lotus-eater replied to + Just Chuck's topic in Men's Health
Nothing prevents states or nonprofits from having their own. Not even the state of CA (which loves to virtue signal on such matters) has its own separate hotline but like the federal government has a general hotline. -

The reasons are easily understood by a man. Pizza is round because it's easier to shape and cook the dough. Square boxes are cheaper to produce. A round pizza is cut into triangles because they're easier to cut into equal slices and to eat. It's all quite straightforward, practical, and mathematical--unlike most women.

Laureen Sánchez & Jeff Bezos saucy picture! Your thoughts!
Lotus-eater replied to marylander1940's topic in The Lounge
Relinquishing political power was far more important to their survival than any sort of economizing. The U.S. isn't even in a recession, let alone a depression, so it's the usual envious agitators who are agog and aghast at his extravagant wedding. -
Rosie calls out Oprah for attending Bezo's wedding
Lotus-eater replied to Ali Gator's topic in The Lounge
An octo-decamillionaire (who fled to a country famous for having a corporate tax rate that is far below the OECD average) complains about a multibillionaire attending a centibillionaire's wedding. It's petty and vicious in the economic stratosphere. -

Yes, it can be done, but you still have to pay the consumption/VAT taxes on all the stuff bought. -

The British royal family makes every American a tacky parvenu by comparison and yet are fond of lavish weddings (with no guillotines in sight). Rich people in America are far more likely to lose their wealth from profligacy or incompetence than any social or political revolution. Poor Anderson Cooper needs to work because the Vanderbilts are broke and even the Mellons and Rockefellers are now worth a mere $14 and $10 billion, respectively, which is pocket change to the top 10 richest individuals in America today, who are worth $100-$375 billion. -

A common argument made for a wealth tax is that the rich have a lower propensity to consume their stored wealth, which means that they end up with a relatively low income tax liability. Spending $50 million means paying a lot more income and other taxes. So the crowd afflicted with envy really ought to be happy. -

Venice was a rich commercial republic that flaunted its wealth, which is why tourists today flock there. Seems fitting for a modern day doge-type to have a flamboyant wedding there. -

The Wayans Brothers: -
No, they wouldn't. E.g., if a renter in Los Angeles County in 2004 invested in the S&P 500 the equivalent 20% down payment of someone who bought the median house ($400K in 2004), i.e. invested about $80K in stocks, and invested the savings from renting each year (which was lower than the cost of owning) over the next 20 years, the renter in 2024 would have about $829K in his stock portfolio while the homeowner would have only $700K in equity (assuming a 30 year mortgage).

Agreed. The move is anti-competitive and counterproductive. And for what? To make a stupid political point? Where is Lina Kahn when you need her? -
Adding the weight training and some balance work is good. It'll help you stand up more easily and strengthen your bones. I also vote for the pec bounce.
