I remember when my mother died unexpectedly from pneumonia in the summer of 1997 right before her 64th birthday, one of the first things my dad did when he was home by himself (a week or two later) was to 'clean out the basement'. He needed to keep occupied and busy. My sister and I were in our mid-30s, so the basement was mostly filled with our 'stuff' which we hadn't touched in years (from childhood - college years) and had long forgotten about. Good riddance to all of that ! Aside from that, there was plenty of 'stuff' my dad had packed away down there and hadn't needed in decades. I would say less than 10% belonged to my mother. So my dad does a big clean-out and gets rid of about half the stuff down there. A few days later, he carries it all upstairs and lines the curb with boxes of junk for the trash delivery to pick up. One of my neighbors saw all the boxes of junk lined up on the curb (and she knew my mom very well), and came over to talk to me that day when I was getting out of my car. She asked in a nice way, 'Where did all that come from ?' and I told her 'The basement. My dad's been cleaning out the basement this week.' She responded, "Wow! I've known your mother for nearly 40 years. I never knew she was such a hoarder. She kept the house so neat and spotless." I let out such a laugh - I needed that. Then I had to explain to her it wasn't my mother's stuff - it belonged to me, my sister, and dad. My mother kept nothing (she wasn't really a 'keeper' of anything, which is how she kept the house so clean and spotless). My neighbor and I couldn't stop laughing. She said to me, 'Well you know, timing is everything - and it looks like you father finally got the chance to get rid of all the stuff your mother hoarded for years.'

Lavin's husband tells the whole story of what happened the past few weeks, and her final hours. VERY SAD.

A little trivia on how Tyne Daly was offered the role of Mama Rose back in the 1989 revival (according to an interview Daly did a while after the run ended)... According to Daly, someone (I believe it was Sondheim) saw Daly on the ABC / Dolly Parton variety show "Dolly!" which ran on Sunday nights for one season from Sept., 1987 - May, 1988. Daly guest starred on the 18th episode, which aired on April 9, 1988. There was a weekly segment called 'Dixie's Place' which Dolly played a diner owner named 'Dixie', and each week she'd sing with one of the 'customers' - this week is was Daly who played a truckdriver who stops in for a late night dinner. She tells 'Dixie' about the troubles with her husband at home, and sings 'If I Could Be There'. Sondheim (?) is captivated by Daly's performance, and calls Laurents - telling him he has found "Mama Rose" for the revival Laurents has been working on. Laurents is able to catch the performance (I believe someone had recorded it and lent him the tape) and agrees - there's something about Daly's performance which convinces him she's the next 'Mama Rose'. Laurents gets in touch with Daly, and the rest is history (she, at first, thought he was kidding when he proposed the offer to her). Chances are, if she wasn't invited to be a guest on Dolly's show, and if she (a non-musical actress) didn't get the chance to sing, she would never have been thought of for the revival. At the time, Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters all said that they were 'being considered' for the role of 'Mama Rose' in the revival, but lost out to Daly. Laurents said he never ever considered any of them. He acknowledged that Midler had contacted him asking for the rights to the material because she wanted to produce and star in a remake of the movie musical (the original one was Roz Russel's 1962 movie). Laurents told her 'no', as he was preparing to launch a revival within the next year or so. He claimed she never expressed interest in the Broadway revival, nor did he express any interest in her.

Very strange ad, indeed. If you're advertising on RM, shouldn't you have at least one photo with nearly nothing on, instead of doing an ugly fashion layout like he did ?

Deli providers ? No, I never tip the butcher who slices my deli meat at the supermarket. 😂

The past week, I texted a few of my regular traveling masseurs to wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I thanked them for meeting up with me the past year, and looked forward to seeing them in '25. They responded kindly, one even thanking me for the message - he appreciated being 'thought of' over the holidays. They each told me what travel plans to my area they were scheduling in the next couple of months. Then there was a new masseur (late 20s) which I met a couple of months ago, and want to see again when he returns, though he was a bit pricey for erotic massage in this area ($250). So I sent him the same holiday text, mentioned something about the appointment for him to remember me, and again - told him I was looking forward to meeting up with him when he returns. He responded with a 'Merry Christmas to you!' and let me know he was planning on returning to my area in a few weeks. Great... Then he sent me another message a few minutes later saying this: "Send me a Christmas gift through my Venmo. Guys send me my hourly rate as a gift. Thanks !" Talk about being gauche...wow. That was a complete turn-off for me, no matter how hot and sexy he is. The more thought I give it, the more I'm inclined to cross him off my list.

Wish he'd come to RI.

Since Cher's book only covers the 60s and 70s (I just finished part one), I would say it's Streisand for the win on who had sex with more men for those two decades. Cher had four : Sonny (whom she stayed faithful to, even though he cheated on her), then some 21 year old guy named Billy (?) who was in her band (first time she cheated on Sonny in the early 70s, and she told him she wanted to have sex with the younger guy), then David Geffen when she was officially separated from Sonny, and then Greg Allman when she was officially divorced. Streisand had many affairs during her first two decades, from her costars to her music directors for her early albums (Peter Matz). I was very surprised to read this.
-
Not true for Cher fans - her memoir (about 400 pages for 'Part 1') has remained at the top spot for non-fiction books through most of the holiday season. Problem with Streisand's was that it should've been released about 20 years earlier, when her fan base was still alive. Releasing this at 81 - not many of her original fan base is still around.

There will be two memorial services for him - one in GA and one in DC. His body will then be flown to DC for a proper state funeral (that is going to be very sad). Then his body will be returned to GA so he can be buried next to his dear wife who died 13 months ago from dementia. No dates have been made public yet for these services.

Rumor has it that the documentary will be released September 5, 2025. Not sure how true this is - it's the rumor floating on Facebook.

'Annie Get Your Gun' is another old chestnut beloved on Broadway. The last revival was a major hit starring Bernadette Peters which won her a Tony. The show opened in March, 1999 (33 years after the last B'way revival in 1966) and closed in early September, 2001 (just 10 days before the 9 - 11 tragedy), with a total of over 1,000 performances. The production won a Tony for 'Best Revival'. Soap actress Susan Lucci replaced Peters for two weeks at the end of 1999, when Peters went on vacation. Peters stuck with the show through September, 2000 when 'Charlie's Angels' star Cheryl Ladd made her B'way debut (I saw Ladd and she was incredible). Reba McEntire took over the end of January, 2001 and then TV actress Crystal Bernard (who did the first US tour) took over the B'way role from June, 2001 until it closed September 1, 2001. It's time...time for a revival. Yet, what big name actress could do the role justice and bring in a big box office to make it a hit ? Suggestions ? I'm thinking Pamela Anderson (she got great reviews for 'Chicago') or maybe even Queen Latifah ?

Jay-Z Accused Of Rape In Refiling Of Sean Diddy Combs Civil
Ali Gator replied to Ali Gator's topic in The Lounge
Looks as though Judge Torres has found enough credible evidence from Jane Doe to allow the suit to move forward and to keep her anonymous. She may have been inconsistent in her testimony, but the Judge has found something of validity there to move this along, much to Jay-Z's dismay. I'd like to know if Sunny Hostin will comment on this once the show returns on January 6. -
Hasn't this been going on since...forever ? Gay men being lured into dangerous situations by others ? Especially since the popularity of dating apps ? It seems like we've talked about the dangers of meeting people over the internet (even on the RM sites) many times on this forum, in great detail and shared experiences.

I have been friends with a guy half my age for the past two years (he's 30). Despite our age gap, we have so much in common (though I'm gay, he says he's straight but I do think he's at least 'bicurious' due to his questions some times). He's very cute and has a nice, slender six foot body (never goes to the gym, so not muscular, but loves to run). A great personality, and he's the whole package. A few weeks ago, we were in his condo waiting for a pizza to be delivered and we started talking about tattoos (we came across some reality show on TV about a tattoo artist). He mentioned he had just gotten a small one a few months earlier on his grandmother's birthday, who passed away earlier this year. He said it was a tat of a horseshoe, as his granny loved horses and loved watching 'the races' on TV. Of course, I asked to see the tattoo and he just pointed towards his heart. I asked again to see it, and he told me he was 'uncomfortable' taking his shirt off in front of other guys. I convinced him it was just the two of us in his condo and there was nothing to be uncomfortable about. Finally, he relented and took his shirt off. What a fine chest he has (naturally shaped, not gym-shaped) and the tattoo was perfect - not distracting. I complimented him on his tattoo and on his naturally smooth body- let him know he should take his shirt off more often, as he has nothing to be ashamed of. "You're a handsome guy with a great body - share it with the world when you can." I told him his smooth chest looks great on him - especially with his beautiful head of hair and his facial scruff. I think he really needed that compliment as some kind of self-assurance. (He did tell me he was rather self-conscious about not having hair on his chest like other Italian guys). I told him to listen to me - his gay friend - he's one sexy dude. Again, he really needed to hear that. So maybe next time we have dinner at his condo (which is every few months) I can coax him into sitting around without his shirt on. Who knows ? Maybe the pants will come off next.

Visiting my area now. Curious if anyone has any experience with him ? PS - I realize this is a link to his massage ad, as he keeps putting his 'RentMen' ad up and then takes it down (it's basically the same ad - he's advertising massage on RentMen, too). I'm interested in erotic massage if anyone has had one with him - please let me know how far it goes. Thanks!! Jay-Z Accused Of Rape In Refiling Of Sean Diddy Combs Civil
Ali Gator replied to Ali Gator's topic in The Lounge
Judge Torres has ruled that she will not be 'fast tracking' or dismissing the lawsuit against JayZ by 'Jane Doe', that 'Jane Doe' (who claims she was raped by JayZ and Diddy when she was 13 at an after-Grammy party) can continue with the case anonymously, and most importantly - she is not happy with the 'combative tactics' JayZ's lawyers have engaged in thus far. She warned his lawyer's approach will not benefit JayZ at all. Judge Rules Jay-Z’s Accuser Can Remain Anonymous, Criticizes Rapper’s Attorney for Aggressive Tactics BALLERALERT.COM A New York judge has ruled that the identity of the woman accusing Jay-Z of raping her when she was 13 years old will remain anonymous -
He and his partner are both in my area this weekend. Is his partner one to avoid, also ? What's the experience with him people can share ?

I received quite a few boxes of chocolates this year, which I could never eat on my own. So today, I brought in the boxes and shared them with my coworkers (I just had a few pieces). They loved the thoughtfulness, and the chocolates were gone within an hour or so (after lunch). -
When I used to go to trade shows at the NY Javitz Center, these card companies would always be there selling their everyday cards, seasonal cards and calendars featuring 'porn stars'. I met Stryker one year (he autographed a calendar for me to display in my store) and many other guys selling their 'stuff' (including many Playgirl models, as one of the companies I bought from was the wholesaler of Playgirl merchandise back then. I remember he was shorter than I expected in person, but a nice enough guy. Most of these porn actors / Playgirl models knew how to flirt with the men visiting the booth- the more they flirted (they would be wearing just a bikini and be all oiled up) the more we gay buyers would buy their stuff for the store. Once, one of the models was talking to me (I remembered him from the magazine and his centerfold spread) and we found out we were staying in the same hotel. He suggested we 'meet up' at his hotel room that night. He wrote down his phone number (no cell phones back then) and told me to call him. I was nervous, but I did - and during the phone call he mentioned he charged an hourly rate for these meet-ups (I think it was $300, and additional money to have sex with him). I was naive and stupid thinking he was interested in me (not knowing he was an escort making extra cash) so I told him no.
