My point! That's so Burberry!

these days, Burberry is definitely not preppy. Ditto with Prada, LV or other brands. Southerners love the preppy look most of all. In the Northeast, it’s much more muted. Read “Class” by Paul Fussell for a great commentary on “trying too hard” to look the part. That said, I’m ashamed to say that in my 20’s I owned and used the following:

Lacoste shirts, made in France

Bass Weejuns with tassels

beat up Made in USA Topsiders without socks

Alden shell cordovan tassel loafers

numerous Brooks Brothers and Southwick suits

Royall Bay Rhum

silk grosgrain belts

Kelly green pants and blazer

Nantucket reds

ad nauseum

Agree. Ivy students certainly still fall asleep in class and often look as if they just woke up when arriving for class. But, they are friendly and dress down. Few Catholics.
