RM advertiser location options?

I notice that

  • some guys just change their location as they move around.
  • Some include travel plans in the text of their ads.
  • And some use (what I assume to be) the travel plans feature/options within the program. Only this last choice integrates with the RM search features.

As an advertiser, what are the pros & cons of these choices? I'm sure one consideration is the appearance of being local, so as not to be disregarded as a traveller when in a city.

I know better than to hope for standardization by the advertisers... for everyone to use the travel plans feature. But, I will note that not using it works against securing my patronage.

  1. I'm making travel plans for the coming months... I can't see the options for guys who will be where I'll be, to make advance plans
  2. I will frequently use the visitors-only filter when looking in my home community, to see who's in town without scrolling through all of the locals I already know about.

Just wondering if there's any reasons-in-common for rentguys' decisions regarding advertising location.

Some guys change their location when they move around, not just to appear local, but to show what part of town they’re in. In a lot of major metros, a provider’s location can play a part in their business.

The pros of travel locations are basically to try as much as possible to drum up interest before you’ll be in a city. Some of us will cancel trips if there’s not enough interest (sorry for the guys that wait).

The cons of advertising beforehand is that even if you try as much as possible to mitigate it, by changing your headline of including travel cities in your text, you’ll still have guys whom won’t pay attention. If you advertise multiple travel cities at a time, you’ll find yourself texting “hi! I’m not currently in [city]. My as says I’ll be in [city] from [date to date]. Would you like to meet while I’m there?”

Sites handle this differently - RM shows you a month before your travel dates, MF a week - but it’s still a pain.

That being said, the bad of annoyance is outweighed by the good of guaranteed appointments before you visit.

Hope that sheds some light.

What @Shawn Monroe said ... The reason an escort makes any choice about where to post travel plans is to make sure that people get it. As someone who travels, I post my travel plans here, on my calendar on my site, and on my RM ad. Despite all of that, I get requests from people trying to see me “tonight” when I’m not in that city for another week, or four days after I leave the city. I also get periodic requests from people who seem to not understand that I live in New York City, and are trying to see me “when I am home in Baltimore.” I am no @Kevin Slater so I don’t have exact numbers, but I would venture a guess that half of the people who contact me for appointments when I am traveling have not clarified my travel dates and are asking to see me when I am not in that city – I can’t imagine how many more people would be doing that sort of thing if I didn’t put clear dates.

I stopped listing travel plans for the reasons outlined above: it gets annoying responding again and again to messages from guys who think I'm already at the destination, even though it could be a week to weeks away. No sure whether the glitch is on Rentmen's end or whether clients are just not paying attention to the travel dates, but it's easier to advertise once I'm already there, in terms of not having to say "Thanks, but I'm not in town till..." over and over and over again.

I think the potential clients are not paying attention. Classic motivation-driven-by-the-wrong-brain. I see the travel plans and dates clearly displayed on thumbnails and full ads. Phone, tablet and PC.

I understand why constantly clarifying schedule would be burdensome. Its a shame, as it undermines the potential for advance scheduling with those who do pay attention.

I do all 3. Option #3 helps to rank you more competitively in search results (So I e heard). Once travel dates are in the travel section and body of my ad, I'm committed to those cities. Flights and hotels have been arranged!

Others may test the waters and show up if the prebookings are sufficient, but that's not how I operate.

I don’t go anywhere without pre-advertising.

Pre-advertising can be anywhere from hours to weeks. During the historic Craigslist era, I’d post up in gateway cities along the way of my travels...if anything it’d pay for my expenses for the day, and get me off in the event I was horny with no clients and didn’t want to fool with Grindr and company.

It’s just always good to be in the know ahead of time. It would scare me to just go to a city without anything planned ahead, unless I had the resources to hang around until things got steady.
