I'm not a sports fan but I did go to a Major League game once years ago. I took my father and step-mother on my birthday.

Afterwards we went out to dinner at a nice restaurant. My step-mother is a beer drinker. The restaurant served alcohol but no beer. She caused a scene. But since I was paying for everything I insisted we stay.

I understand baseball somewhat. Basketball moves too fast for me. I will never understand American football rules.

I remember when I first heard of the "A"s I thought "Oh no! They've run out of names and are now going by the letters of the alphabet." ;-)))

Philadelphia Athletics.

I am confused as why are posting about baseball running out of names for teams. Highly unlikely.

I was a boy and ignorant about sports. I only heard "A"; it was only later I learned the team's real name.

I do like Babe Ruth

It's the first season in 30 years that all 30 teams open the season on the same day. They've always been staggered over a weekend before.

The Cincinnati Red usually open the season at home to start the season. Not sure why it did not happen yesterday. Unless Washington at Cincinnati's

postponement today is a mistake by ESPN.

Years ago there was a website called Baseball Butts, or something like that. It focused on, you guessed it, player's uniforms! For some reason, I'm oddly excited about MLB this year. Probably because I'm seeing the Marlins later this year (first MLB game I've been to in, like, 10 years).

This is basketball but on the recent episode of "Black - ish" Rainbow's grandmother said that she liked the old days - I forget her exact words - the shorts were shorter and one could see the outline of their equipment. ;-)))

Actually in days gone by the baseball season always began on a Monday. That tradition was done away with a little over a decade ago when they began the season with a singe Sunday night game and the balance of the teams played on Monday. This year they've totally changed it up.

Again this is a tradition that was done away with years ago. The Reds had the honor because they were the first professional baseball team.

Wasn't the Washington at Cincinnati Reds rained out, so this year Cincinnati was unable to play the first game..

Yes, they were scheduled to play opening day, but somehow the paperwork with Mother Nature for dry, spring weather got lost and the game was postponed.

Cinci still has the honor of starting the season at home every year. MLB has not dishonored that tradition yet, but the tradition of the first pitch of the season being thrown in Cinci ended in 1994 (I was off by a decade in my above post I just looked it up) when baseball instituted the Sunday night opener prior to "official" opening day which is usually on a Monday. That is also why this is the first time in decades that all MLB teams played on opening day (since there was no day before opening day game).
