I absolutely LOVE MeTV. It takes me back to the "good old days". I watch The Donna Reed Show every day during the week (don't judge me) and quite a few others. I remember when TVLand used to be my go to channel for nostalgia TV and they had Dick Van Dyke and a bunch of other classics on. But those days are gone and mostly garbage and trying to capture the current generations with hip series that I don't particularly enjoy. Anyway, thank goodness for MeTV and similar cable channels.

DecadesNetwork is currently running the "Best of Ed Sullivan" which is my not-at-all-guilty pleasure these days. This afternoon, while doing mindless tasks, I played one episode from my dvr stash and was utterly delighted by the spectacle of Charo (which EdS pronounced "CHAIR-o") singing a flamenco arrangement of "Shalom Aleichem."

But this time of year I so wish that I had a GetTV affiliate in the neighborhood. They run all kinds of old holiday specials, which is the sort of retro kitsch I live for...

New boy in the neighborhood

Lives downstairs and it's understood.

He's there just to take good care of me,

Like he's one of the family.

Charles in Charge

Of our days and our nights

Charles in Charge

Of our wrongs and our rights

And I sing, I want,

I want Charles in Charge of me.

I bought a stuffed ALF. I have him sitting in the rocking chair I had as a little boy.

I loved the character of ALF, but was lukewarm about the series. A friend had work in Boston, and bought me a Boston souvenir... a t-shirt with an iron-on applique of ALF on it. She didn't notice Boston was spelled Bostson. I still have the shirt, though I can't fit into it.

My aunt (father's sister) was a big Perry Mason fan. When we'd be visiting and the show came on the adults went into the living room to watch with the door closed leaving us children in the family room.

A true fan of Perry Mason here too!

I just watched the season 9 episode 30 series-concluding episode via MeTV the other day. I'd never seen it before & was delighted at the range of guest stars in the episode, including Erle Stanley Gardner the author of th e book series.

Also in the cast was a very handsome James Stacy.

A particularly kind gesture was that several of the crew members seem to have had small onscreen appearances that included a few lines. That was a quite classy gesture on the part of the producers & I assume Raymond Burr as the series wrapped up!

Perry and Carol Burnett and of course The BIG VALLEY!!!!!! "Audra Get in the House - and YOU GET OFF MY LAND" starring Ms. Barbara Stanwyck

A tip for those of us who appreciate the gorgeous hunk that was Lee Majors as seen in The Big Valley, and specifically for those of us who have a kink side that includes corporal punishment, there are 3 episodes of The Big Valley in which Heath is whipped. The degree to which it is seen or heard varies but I never forgot one of the floggings from when I saw it as a child! Watch for the Journey Into Darkness episode.

Seen below is a whipping from another episode the name of which escapes me now. Though Majors is clothed and it's shot from the front, it's not as titillating as the other 2 whippings in which his bare flesh is seen but it will do in view of the topic & the sound quality of the whipping.

By the end of the series, the 3 whippings should have left Heath's back as an ugly & scarred mess!

What was the name of that episode? CBS All Access carries the show.

At the 3rd link below, I must note that I think that the whipping was led up to as part 1 of it concluded. As I reflect further, part 2 began in the aftermath but we never saw or heard it take place but we saw that he was suffering post-whipping.

As part 1 ended, the villain who held the whip eyed Heath's sweat-glistened back & licked his lips in anticipation of the punishment he was about to inflict.

Heath was so beautiful under the lash & suffered so stoically that he should have been whipped in every other episode!

Here are links for all 3 whipping episodes synopses via IMDB. The 4th link is a text description of the flogging episode I saw as a child & link #5, with numerous photos, is one that I just found a moment ago for the Journey Into Violence episode.

Enjoy!

Used to have an independent channel here that ran "Highway Patrol" with Broderick Crawford, showing in the middle of the time I would be getting ready for work, when I worked overnights at adidas. Funny watching those big old Buick coupes running up and down Topanga Canyon Road! One episode had a teenaged Barbara Eden as a kidnapping victim, and another featured Clint Eastwood as a rogue motorcyclist. Seeing a role portrayed in 1955, by actors still working recently, amazing, like seeing a Betty White clip from the '40s.

MeTV ran Laramie last year much to my delight! Having not seen the series since it originally aired, I was gratified to find that it had passed the test of time & was a still a quality product & and a relevant one too. And the memorable theme music written for Laramie is still hauntingly beautiful & plucks a wistful & melancholy spot in my soul.

Sadly our household lost our archive of saved tv episodes & movies when we changed cable providers. Included among the lost items were the first & last episodes of Laramie.

John Smith & Robert Fuller were cast as the two strikingly attractive male leads. While Smith's physique was revealed a few times, the producers were spartan in letting us see any extra skin of the handsome & masculine Fuller.

Finding this nice nugget has thus gratified me!

On a lighter side, I'm currently catching episodes of "Mama's Family." Actually, I'm catching the hots from watching Allen Kayser's "Bubba" days:

http://greginhollywood.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/mama5404.jpgx5nqz8a He could really pull off the tight-jeans look (so many times I wished I could have pulled off his tight jeans). :p

GRIT TV runs Laramie about 4 episodes a weekday....two in b&w and two in color. Enjoyable show and Fuller serves as nice scenery.
