Famous actors and actresses are notoriously cheap. They tend to believe they deserve everything for free because they're "famous." It should be your pleasure to service them. They are often flooded with free gifts and perks, so it's easy to get spoiled and feel entitled.

Kevin Spacey was not a famous actor when the alleged assault occurred. He was 26. He was getting good reviews on Broadway, but he didn’t become a star until the mid-1990s.

I thought that was interesting because the dad was right there when it happened. I don't know if he was aware of it though. I think it show's that he's definitely a sexual predator and another one that's very credible.

A decade ago, Spacey's brother, Randall Fowler, told reporters that their father, who they called "The Creature," was an ardent neo-Nazi who beat him, Kevin and their sister, and repeatedly raped Randall.

That's interesting and not surprising that he's carrying on his fathers abuse.

Adds new texture to that Best Picture winner, American Beauty. The neo-Nazi military daddy of all daddies was both revolted by and desired "neighbor" Kevin at the same time, then shot him!

Yes, however, you quoted me out of context. My quote refers to Spacey living in NYC and having access to expensive escorts. My quote had nothing to do with Spacey at age 26.

If so, sorry about that. But in reference to your observation that famous actors are cheap, entitled and expect everything for free — an apparent explanation for Spacey sexually assaulting men instead of taking advantage of NYC’s wide array of male escorts — how exactly do you know that he didn’t hire?

I don't know, and I don't really care. My comment about cheapness was a generalization. I'm sure some famous folk are indeed generous. It seems to me, gay male predators are wired differently when it comes to sex. Perhaps it's possible to create a "fantasy scene," but it doesn't seem the norm for escorts to provide this particular thrill, especially if the predator likes boys under 18.

Mostly that’s because predation is not about having sex, but having power, control and dominance. Grabbing them by the pussy, so to speak...

Tangent: I strongly disagree with the trope that rape is only about power, not about sex. I really think it's both, and it's missing the mark to claim it's only one or the other. The power issue is why it's traumatic for the victim, but the perpetrator is IMO definitely getting sexual gratification out of it.

If it were only about power, then how is it that availability of pornography seems to be correlated with a REDUCTION in sexual assault?

THIS IS WHAT BEING A FOOL ABOUT SEXUAL PREDATION SOUNDS LIKE

On Monday night at the New York Public Library’s annual Library Lions Gala. A reporter from Vanity Fair asked author GayTalese, 85, who he would like to write about if he were to profile someone today.

“I would like to talk to Kevin Spacey,” Talese responded.

That seemed natural enough. Spacey’s been dominating headlines for the better part of two weeks as multiple men have accused the actor of sexual harassment, and various companies and organizations have severed ties with him.

But then, Vanity Fair reported, Talese grew “agitated” and offered his reasoning for wanting to speak with Spacey — he feels sorry for the actor.

“I would like to ask [spacey] how it feels to lose a lifetime of success and hard work all because of 10 minutes of indiscretion 10 years or more ago,” Talese said, adding, “I feel so sad, and I hate that actor that ruined this guy’s career. So, O.K., it happened 10 years ago . . . Jesus, suck it up once in a while!”

Then Talese compared the two-time Oscar-winning actor, who has been accused of sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old, with the Dalai Lama.

“You know something, all of us in this room at one time or another did something we’re ashamed of. The Dalai Lama has done something he’s ashamed of,” Talese told Vanity Fair. “The Dalai Lama should confess . . . put that in your magazine!”

The Dalai Lama did not respond, but Twitter users expressed a mixture of outrage and confusion ... here's one of the best:

“Petition To Force Gay Talese To Change His Name To Straightoldguy Talese,” tweeted NPR book and movie reviewer Glen Weldon.

85, huh? Are we sure this isn't more dementia than anything else? I've heard some doozies come out of the mouths of older relatives that I was confident was not how they thought when they still had their marbles.

Also from the Vanity Fair article:

“I feel so sad, and I hate that actor that ruined this guy’s career,” continued Talese, who possibly had not kept up with the growing scope of the accusations online.

@sniper, There is absolutely no shame in servicing only in the U.S. during the Korean war. But, if Talese had serviced in Korea it would be the most delayed case of post-traumatic stress disorder in history.

Blaming his comments on a possible case of dementia is unfair to Talese who takes pride in being controversial.

Hard to know. Not least because his view that victims of sexual harassment ought to just shut up about it (or shouldn't be believed, or should have their motives impugned) is not unique. As we've learned from this thread. Although Talese does take it a step farther by announcing he hates the accuser.

I wonder if Talese has some skeletons in his closet?

Forced sex might be a brute, acute, dare I say intimate manifestation of power over another human being, but sexual gratification is most assuredly not the goal. Power is.
