I know of a few people who are traveling hundreds of miles to view the eclipse. I am in two minds. I am either going to a Honda Dealership and closing my eyes or I am going into a closet and making shadow puppets until the light goes out. Anyone else doing anything special for this unevent.

Scattered beefcake with this eclipse.

Cloud cover was spotty, so I stayed home, but my neighbor is a photographer and set up a tripod in his yard and I was able to watch it as came across through his filtered lens. I thought it was pretty cool.

I had a good view from my yard, but we were in the path of the total eclipse. Cloud cover opened up for about 40% of the event, including the totality. Even for those who had the event obscured by clouds during the total eclipse it was pretty neat to be out when it got dark out, the cicadas starting freaking out, and we could see the 360 degree sunset phenomenon.

The eclipse got overhyped, and due to it, it's shiny glory fell flat. Had it happened unexpectantly, people would think aliens or the second coming of Christ was to take place. I think the eclipse is cool, but the hype goes back to the worshipping of Sun Gods and idols...non of which was necessarily a commandment.

Also, of all the phenomenon that exists on earth, the eclipse is so elusive and hard to view. The harvest moons rising October and November put on a far better show. The eclipse does remind me of being in the eye of a category 4/5 hurricane. That temporary, brief change in the atmosphere. But for some reason, nobody wants to experience THAT phenomenon.

That said, here in Florida it was much cooler this afternoon than the normally miserable and relentless August heat.

"wow that moon looks really black"

"yes sir"

"but it can't...y'know..."

"no it can't vote"

"Ok, just checking"

One nice thing about it was that perfect strangers in my town were sharing viewing glasses with strangers. For a few minutes there was a nice sense of community going on.
