Ok I have a question and this is directed to everyone. I am planning another trip to surprise LA. Ok maybe it isn't a surprise I am going but what is a surprise is airfare and the price of hotels. I understand that summer is coming up and parents with their little monsters are going to be traveling which means they will be probably flying and staying in hotels but just about every article I read says that airfare is going down. Am I blind? Cause I am not seeing it going down. Instead I am seeing it sky rocket. The times that I usually fly mid morning for a r/t ticket is almost $300 dollars as where I normaly pay about $220 for any west coast travel. Yes I have checked every airline multiple times and the travel sites also. Are some of you also seeing airfares going way way up also or is it just me? And hotels my god what I usually get is about $250 more too. It doesn't seem that things were this expensive last year. I hope that there is some drop in hotel fees and airfare. At first I thought well spring break blah blah blah but it has been a week or two since that has been all over and nada.

Hugs,

Greg

RE: Travel question

I've noticed a significant increase in airfares. I "assumed" it was because of rising fuel costs. I think there has also been an increase in some airport taxes and fees that are being passed on to the traveler.

As for hotel prices, most of my stays are at our corporate-negotiated rates (and they remain stable for an entire year). But, it is getting to the point that you really can't afford to travel and pay for it out of your own pocket. x(

Greg, I totally agree that prices for hotels have jumped way up this year by almost around 100.00 or more over what they were last year for a one night rate in just about all markets. Especially NYC!!! whew! most reasonably nice hotels were around 120.00-170.00 just a few months ago are now starting at 230.00-280.00 per night! Airfare is slowly creeping back up too, but I find lots of good online specials off and on with Travelocity. but the hotels fees are getting out of control!

Hotel demand has sky-rocketed in the past 8 months, I travel a great deal and find many hotels 80% or better on capacity. On average rates have gone up 20-30%.

Airfare is the same, but less seats and fewer planes are flying. Fuel costs are making fares go up 10-20% depending on you city.

Apparently air fares are low only if you are flying on carriers like Southwest or AirTran. I live in a small market (Palm Springs) without these carriers, and it seems to me that the majors like United and American are definitely more expensive than they were last year for flights to the east coast.

I have found just the opposite to be true. Heading to Atlanta from Portland, OR on Monday. Roundtrip, non-stop both ways is $239.

Maybe it's just Atlanta.

It is only money and you can't take it with you!

So party before it is too late!

If you don't travel First Class,

you heirs will!

Oh I agree have fun with the money while one can but after spending $200-220 for a r/t ticket and then seeing it jump up to almost $300 is a bit of a sticker shock. I have checked Southwest and they are about the same price as the others. Usually Alaska Airlines (I heart Alaska Airlines) has the better fares but they are right up there with everyone else. I do understand that the price of gas for airlines is astronomical (sorry can't spell). I don't see why the government isn't doing something about the price of gas in general. OH wait thats right George and Dick have a stake in oil. DUH!!!! LOL If all else fails I have enough miles for a free ticket but would rather save those miles on a better trip then to LA.

If price is important, and you're not set on a particular airline (in order to attain or maintain elite status), or on a particular hotel (for the same or similar reasons), I would suggest booking through Priceline or Hotwire.

Greg,

Hotel prices and airfares vary upon occupancy. For example last weekend in Washington DC most of the hotels were sold out because of the Cherry Blossom Parade and prices went up to $300 for a room.

You may want to try different dates or book far in advance.

Your right Steven. I should have booked further in advance. But like many of my other trips I just recently decided to head to LA for their pride. I understand that hotels know that it will be a busy weekend so why not get the most dollars they can and can't really blame them too much. But I think that if I decide to partake any other cities pride next year I will deff. plan a lot further in advance then just a few months down the road.

Greg
