This is sort of a spinoff of the 'Who do you tell you are an escort?' thread.

I'm interested in how many porn performers and escorts use their real names when promoting their careers.

It seems to me like a very bold and admirable act. The first porn star I recall doing this was Richard Locke,

the original blue collar porn daddy icon, at a time when there much more stigma associated with porn, especially gay porn.

This is meant in no way to disparage the vast majority who, for various entirely valid reasons, use pseudonyms. Nor is it a place to 'out' sex workers if you know their real names. I absolutely respect the desire for privacy amongst those who provide these services. This is just a question I have often wondered about.

One of my favorite escorts uses a pseudonym for this escort name, but his email address is his real first and last name @gmail.com - leading to numerous profiles on social media. To top it off, he had nude pictures taken by Joseph Smileuske. These pictures were copied/pasted on countless tumblr accounts, often mentioning his escort and real names together. In other words, family, girl friends, prospective escort clients, prospective employers now have access to his entire online presence - the 'real' and the 'escort' one. It is a real problem for him.

My advice - don't even THINK about using your real name.

Hard to imagine any good coming from using one's real name to escort. Your escort persona and you non-escort personae will be one, which may not serve you well once you have left the field. Privacy is a diminishing commodity. I see no reason to discard any of it without a good reason. There does not seem to be a good reason to use one's real name while pursuing a career which walks the line of legality, at least here in the US.

Maybe its just me, or the fact that My public persona would have a lot to lose should my enjoyment of this particular hobby, but i tend to come out of a first meeting with the escort's real name in tow. And i do use my real name with them.

Who knows?

Precisely regarding the amount to lose AND the real names with my go to fellow - likewise, at the first meeting.

I'm a good guy and have found a good guy.

Great for you! For better or for worse, mine is on the other coast.

When the massage M4M site made fake profiles so people would pay to view photos/videos, they used the real first name of someone listed on their site (who also happened to do porn). I was the one who brought it to his attention.

I think there are a number of porn performers who use their real names, which entails little or no legal risk, especially if they only do porn and do not escort.

Facial recognition software being what it is today, there's really no such thing as anonymity anymore for porn stars. If someone is determined to cause trouble for you they can do it.

The "famous" ones don't really bother hiding because they know they can't these days. And if they are smart about it, they are striking while the iron is hot and socking money away to be in a position where they won't really care if other people know. If your life's goal is to work with kids or something along those lines, you should know to stay the hell away from this line of work in the first place.

There is also a non-negligible number of people who--in the course of wandering the internet for their own pursuits--take it upon themselves to try to embarrass other people. I've experienced such attempts from people tattling about a dating profile without realizing that I didn't care. I sympathize with people who want privacy but don't regard their desire as realistic.
