The house has been buzzing for days with the boys' elaborate Valentine's Day plans. They are having their girlfriends over for dinner, and I'm going to have dinner with my folks. The house has never been so clean.

That means they got to get busy early. In my limited experience with this, the parent's house is not exactly prime romance territory. However, given the libido of young men, availability and opportunity are usually more important than romance

All true. The interesting thing is that they love to cook and so wanted to make dinner for the girls. And they assumed I'd be there too. I'm the one who decided I'd go to my folks and leave them alone. If "tonight's the night" so be it. It's my own fault!

I had told them I'd be home about 9, but I stayed at my folks' longer and got home about 9:30. The boys were in the den with their girlfriends, watching a movie, They had been dressed in blazers and ties for the date, and were in shirtsleeves when I got there, but I assume that was from doing the dishes. My sense was that some serious smooching had been going on, but no one seemed very crumpled or embarrassed when I got there. I asked how dinner was, the girls said great, and I went to my room. I heard the girls leave after the movie, maybe 30 minutes later, and heard the boys going to bed. I have no idea how far things went and don't need to know, but this morning they told me all about dinner, what they made, how the girls liked it, etc. I asked about the movie and they were vague, so I doubt they had paid much attention. Still, I don't think anything momentous happened.
