Septic arthritis is not something to take lightly; I would at least call my orthopedist or primary care doctor, and if I were worsening acutely, I would have no reservations about going to the ER.

I know two people who went through this in the last couple of years. They both had to have the replacement knee out for some months while antibiotics dealt with the infection, but they were ultimately fine. Certainly this is something for your doctor.

Infected hardware has to come out....sooner rather than later.

If you believe the knee might be infected then you need to see the physician who did the surgery....today.

If there was pus it IS infected. Surprised you are not in hospital on IV antibiotics with possible plan to open and drain. It is essentially an abcess festering in your knee. While most come out fine, this is a true emergency.

i may be dealing with this. I have a vacation, scheduled for mar 12, To go to HNL on the 13. But my replaced knee May be infected any advice?

What makes you think it might be infected?

Go to a Doctor ASAP and follow his advice, if he allows you to go to HNL don't go to staircase to heaven, don't push it.

I wouldn't do that under normal circumstances.

Where was this taken?

I'm having a washout tomorrow. I feel it prudent to cancel Hawaii at this point as I have no idea what will be going on. I was going to meet up with and spend time with a great younger fellow. Sigh.

As the expression goes, I'll keep you in my positive thoughts for a speedy recovery. Better luck!

Are you hospitalized, or getting your IV antibiotics on an out patient basis?

A year of antibiotics -are they afraid it might become osteomyelitis? I had an elderly acquaintance years ago. I think he had gotten osteomyelitis before the advent of penicillin type antibiotics. He had 'chronic' osteo (is what I believed they called it). I think he had to be hospitalized every so often for treatment. This was in the days before home IV antibiotics were common.

PS: I was remiss in not wishing you an easy recovery and total resolution of your infection. I apologize.

Not to worry. I might be dodging a bullet in not having to have all the hardware out.
