HOST CHRIS ROCK SHOCK: ONLY GAYS WATCH OSCARS

ACADEMY MEMBERS ALARMED OVER CHOICE OF COMIC

**Exclusive**

Veteran members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have grown concerned over the choice of Chris Rock as host of this month's awards show, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Concern deepened after Rock claimed only gays watch the Oscars!

"I never watched the Oscars. Come on, it's a fashion show," Rock recently declared.

"What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars? Show me one!"

Rock added: "Awards for art are f---ing idiotic."

MORE

Academy members have privately called for Chris Rock to be removed as host, sources claim, fearing Rock may "tarnish" the reputation of the Academy.

"Simply put, this is a disgrace," one veteran Hollywood mogul, who asked not to be identified, said from Los Angeles.

"This guy is out there saying 'awards for art are f---ing idiotic' and he is hosting the show produced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? I guess the joke is on us!"

One nominated actress questions whether producer Gil Cates was even aware that Rock has "never watched the Oscars."

Other unpublicized comments made by Rock threaten to throw the scheduled Feb. 27 broadcast into complete chaos.

During a recent hate-filled rant, Rock imitated a White House press briefing:

"Mr. President, what about gay marriage? 'F**k them faggots,'" Rock said of Bush.

What will Rock be wearing to the show?

"Nothing against people who aren't straight, but what straight guy that you know cares? Who gives a f---?" Rock explained.

Developing...

Shakespeare Said It Best

Much Ado About Nothing

That is Rock's kind of humor -- 'shock and awe', whether the subject is the Oscars, Whites, Blacks, Lavenders :) , Wall Street, Politicans, whatever. You buy Chris Rock that is what you paid for. No suprise to any that have caught his act.

People that live to get their panties in a bunch will be in Hog Heaven. :p

I agree with him.

This may be Chris Rock's "kind of humor", but it is hate speech all the same. It may have been Jeffrey Dahmer's "kind of cooking", but to the rest of us it's cannibalism. It seems to me there are limits to civilized behavior, and when those limits are crossed, there should be consequences. A popular culture idol referring to gay people as "fucking faggots" is one of those limits. To excuse him is to allow bigotry to take the central a place in the most watched television event of the year. He has a perfect right to express himself in any way he wants, but he doesn't have to be given a public platform and a fat check to do it. An industry built in large part on the talent of gay people would be insane to allow a man who has said these things to be its face at the Oscars.

On a lighter note, if only gays watch the Oscars, there must be an awful lot of us!

The only effective response to this kind of thing is to protest loudly, demand his removal, and boycott whatever he is paid to do. If enough people use our money to protest, he will change his mind and apologize, or his career will be history.

You have NEVER watched Chris Rock or you could not accuse him of homo-phobic or racist. I have seen many of these statements and what Drudge and you have done is taken them out of context--and the context of a comic is not only what is said before and after but his entire bodily/facial expression. He knows he is hosting the Oscars and is engaged in self mockery-- "these white people have asked a black man (he would say nigga but not at the Oscars) to host the oscars, they better watch out"; -- his brand of an Oscar humor will likely have things like mocking Ray charles for how a blind man could get so much pussy; he will take on Iraq--"support the troops means that a whole lot of big tittie girls need to be in Iraq servicing the men; giving them what no Iraq woman would-- but the Iraq men would-- at gunpoint (mocking Abu Grab)--- he is of that humor that comments to the heart of what people think-- "the arts are for fags-- and so if you are watching the 4 hour presentation of the Oscars you must be a fag--and if you have watched it every year for years you must be a fag bottom--- and if you are a woman who too easily gets her man to sit and watch the Oscars with her--check to see if his ass is a little too CLEAN"--- etc. This is not the Bill Cosby/Billy Crystal brand of humor guy-- he is in the Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Roseanne Bar line. Thank you for this helpful dissertation on Chris Rock's brand of humor. I stil think those comments are out of line, and don't particularly enjoy that kind of humor in the context of a public and celebratory event like the Oscars. That kind of humor coarsens everyone who assents to it.

Don't be so damned sensitive.

At this point in time, it will probably be more a matter of What he "will be allowed to say" More than "what he will say".. He is definitely at the other end of the Spectrum from Billy Crystal..The MTV Crowd... who do worship him, also I don't think care much about watching the "Oscars" either! Apparently this Oscar Host "GiG" not wanted by to many people to begin with... :+ :+ :+

You are right Chris, I don't know of one either. But I do know a straight black man who might host the Oscars...

While I think I "get" Chris Rock to a degree, having him as host of the Oscars is just not appropriate. The people who watch the Oscar show are pretty much a cross section of America. Despite what Rock allegedly said, lots of people do watch the show. The majority probably simply won' find Rock funny in the last.

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has essentially engaged the guy as their spokesperson for the evening. During the evening, he's likely to go off on some group or other. Maybe several! That's his humor, and the way he gets laughs. The overall appropriateness of Chris Rock as host of the Oscars just does not add up.

I think this is an accident waiting to happen. The producers have made a significant error in judgement.

I'll probably watch the Oscars just to see Chris Rock. I think he is hilarious :+

It definitely will be hilarious..IF the Cameras "Catch" the Facial reactions,in the audience..Some of the "Attendees" take this "Marketing Extravaganza" very, very seriously. IF he does his usual Pacing, Raving and Ranting <harder to hit a moving target> it definitely would turn the evening into something else.. Winning or Losing in some cases, definitely affects many future Contracts.<$$> :+ :+ :+

I'm not so sure.

No matter how spontaneous it looks, these things are scripted to the "n"th degree.

In an era when Fox pixellates a 5-year-old cartoon that shows butt, I can't imagine ANYONE slipping much by the censors.

Chris Rock will drag in the MTV audience, in addition to a very traditional audience. THAT may backfire on them (as the MTV crowed grows bored and rejects the whole notion), but I don't think Chris Rock will be allowed much lattitude at all.

Please reread the above article. Nowhere did Rock refer to us as "fucking faggots." He was attributing that sentiment to President Bush, acting out both parts of a dialogue.

One of his best gay jokes was the one Chris Rock told on the MTV Super Bowl Show:

" I know how to corrrect the problem we have with all these gay

faggots. Just turn the Black rappers here loose on those faggots

in a dark alley for 10 minutes and the problem would be permanently

solved."

I wouldnt mind being in a dark alley with a Black rapper : )

Anyway, I think Chris Rock is funny, but I also see other people's point. If I started making jokes about Jews and the Holocaust and how they were consider less than human...well, that would be wrong, right ?

So why is it okay to joke about gays being beat up by Black rappers ? Cause we are both minority groups and its funny when the niggers and the fags get ripped apart, cause after all...they're not us

I think he is guilty of poor taste (but what comedian that is readily accepted by the MTV generation isnt). We, however, ate fooling ourselves if we dont realize what is happening. It has often been said that in order for evil to be part of our everyday lives, it must be made attracted. If it was ugly, no one would get involved in it...Well what is more palatable and harmless than a few jokes ??? I mean Hitler's propaganda pamphlets had an element of humor too...

Someone needs to introduce Chris Rock to Bayard Rustin's life history.

The Source

Since when did Matt Drudge, of all people, become a credible or worthy source?

Anyone who wants to go to the Entertainment Weekly web site (subscription) or their local library can find the piece on Rock as host of the Oscar as part of the February 4, 2005 special issue on the awards (it features Johnny Carson on the cover).

Here is an example of what Matt Drudge took out of context, according to a credible newspaper:

In an Entertainment Weekly story about his gig hosting this year's Academy Awards, Rock said he had never watched the show, and dismissively said: "Come on, it's a fashion show. ... What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars? Show me one."

When pressed by interviewer Josh Wolk about Oscar fashions, Rock, who's known for his raw, unsanitized comedy routines, said, "Nothing against people who aren't straight, but what straight guy that you know cares?"

Frankly, I personally doubt Matt Drudge knows any Academy member or voter, including either Mel Gibson OR Michael Moore. On the other hand, he has gotten a large number of people to go to his website, repeat his name, take him seriously and probably got to go on a few stupid cable news shows to discuss this "pressing" news.

Finally, I have nothing either for or against Chris Rock. I do not think he is particularly funny, I thought Head of State was an idea which could have been far better than its execution turned out to be and I think Warren Beatty's version was far better than Mr. Rock's remake. I believe the producers thought they could get a younger, hipper vibe, but frankly I would prefer to see Ellen as host or Jamie Foxx, than Chris Rock....

Drudge, have you lost your mind?

To hell with Matt Drudge and his rightwing pre-censorship attempts, unnamed (made up, or only 'high-level' in his imagination) sources, and general mockery of journalism! He's wrong as often (or more) as he's right, but some people 'forget' that.

I'm going to watch the Oscars (first time in a couple years, despite my orientation) and form my own opinion. Oooh, dangerous...

I heard something like that on the radio. My impression was that this was a bit of a publicity stunt.

BULLETIN...Today the "Statement" was made...There will be a 5 second delay! Let us see if he can work around it! Hope So. This "Luvfest" is really boring. How "Glamorous" can you feel, when the World knows what your wearing is ON LOAN? IMHO.. DeCaprio is really getting Strange looking, for his mature years! Without "P.R.MACHINE" he would have faded along time ago also... He certainly "ain't" Johnny Depp! :+ :+ :+

What he really meant to say...

'I DON'T KNOW ANY STRAIGHT MEN NOT IN SHOWBUSINESS THAT WATCH OSCARS'

Chris Rock clarified what he meant when he said straight men don't watch the OSCARS.

"I did not say that. I said only gay people watch the Tonys," he joked Monday night during an appearance on NBC's TONIGHT SHOW.

Rock stuck to his guns. "I really don't know any straight men who aren't in show business that have ever watched the Oscars," he said.
