Long ago, when working in the corporate world, we were closing an office on one city, and offering other cities for relocation. One day, I got a call from a manager of the office closing, telling me one of their employees was in the process of transitioning from male to female, and wanted to begin working in their new city as a female (the position required a uniform, badging, and security clearance). I'd never experienced this. It was the first time I ever heard of the term "gender dysphoria". I called our local EAP office, and was put in touch with someone in another office who had dealt with this several times. When I first spoke with this person, I was rebuffed, as if I was against it. I had to explain it was not my intention to create obstacles, but help this happen. The process was turned over to the other person, and I assume all went well as I never heard anything again.

Unless and until 'transgender' is proven to be some sort of fraud, the least we owe our trans* brothers and sisters is to take them at their word and accept them as they are.
