Hey! I know most of you are not urologists, and most of you are too young to worry about ED or impotence, but I would appreciate learning about your personal experiences regarding this question.

 

Does abstaining from all sex for a short period of time (3 days, a week?), for whatever reason, make your sexual drive and performance stronger/more reliable when you resume?

 

There are a lot of myths, beliefs about keeping your cum inside- athletes should abstain before the big game, daily masturbation keeps you tuned up, etc. I have a dream hook up coming up and I would like to be as horny as possible. What is your take on this. (I know there is no one right or wrong answer. Just wonder about other's experience, especially the older guys like me that may be facing "unreliable" performance even with the chemical support available.)

I've done some research and the side effects from Finasteride are ugly. I just stopped it and dropped the doctor because he gave me attitude about sex with men. It you don't mind saying, how did it mess up your sex life and do you take Flomax? PM if you prefer.

The only time I really notice a difference is when it's multiple times a day. The first of the day is great, any subsequent seem lacking - but after a good night sleep I seem to be recharged. I have abstained for a week before and didn't notice any considerable difference. I'd file this under varies from person to person.

I was originally given the Flomax to treat the frequent urination, but I dont find its done much good with that. I still have the strong sensation of ejaculation BUT without the mess... When I'm alone, i dont care, but with a partner, they seem to want to see you come, so its disappointing for them and embarrassing for me. I havent found a Gay doctor , and my str8 asshole doctor isnt much for discussing this problem. When it comes to gay men having sex, he feels that shouldnt be the issue. It should be about the urination issue. It's "go to this specialist or go to that specialist". I think all these doctors are hooked up and just wanna make a buck because each one wants to run the same tests as the other and bill the Insurance company. If it helped ME I wouldnt care, but so far it hasnt.

Really, JJ, it's more about embarrassment and ignorance on the part of those doctors and really not a financial issue. They just don't know how to deal with patients who don't fit their ideal mold for a patient (gay, patients whose symptoms don't respond, etc.)

My getting up in the middle of the night results have been great. I went from 4 times a night to now once a night.

I haven't had a face to face talk with the urologist about the lack of sex issues yet. Coming soon. Then I will make some decisions. I did notice in my couple of office visits his office is plastered with brochures and charts on erectile disfunction. So at least he should be willing to talk about it.

When I complained to my urologist about the side effects of Flomax he put me on 5mg daily of Cialis and in a week or so I was able to stop Flomax and was doing well on just the Cialis but when I was hospitalized last year they would only give me the Flomax and for some reason I'm having a hard time getting off the Flomax now that I'm trying to recover but I try to limit the Flomax to every other day or every 2 days. I was on high doses of Prednisone for 9 months and I'm going through tapering the Prednisone which I'm not handling well so that may be the reason the Cialis is not working as well as it did before.

Gods, guys. I thought I was alone. I have been down these same roads. Remember my story about my first urologist? I asked him if I could still get pleasure from anal sex with a enlarged prostate and he got up and left the room. Thereafter, I only saw his PA (who was great) and soon changed doctors. The second one, when asked if I could stop the Finasteride due to the retrograde ejaculation, said, "Can you urinate?" When I said, "Yes", he said, "Be grateful". Me, too, please, Rudy. I will never take another drug without completely researching it again. Finasteride is the worst. Most of the online reviews are bad. Beware. I am afraid I am suffering from the syndrome, too. Steps i have taken to improve my sex life haven't been as effective as expected.
