I visited Numbers in WeHo in December, just after Christmas. I couldn't figure the place out. I mean, I did see the guys sitting at tables outside, looking up at whoever passed, looking as though they were clients checking out potential escorts. But there weren't that many, and nobody who looked like an escort, either.

Inside, where I would have expected "business" to be happening, looked like just a restaurant. (Except for it being very dimly lit.) While a couple at a table, one much younger than the other, did glance at me inquiringly for half a moment, everything else looked like a chatty restaurant.

This reminds me of visiting a bathhouse for the first time, where I didn't know how things worked. Can someone tell me what the "usual order of business" for escorts and clients is at Numbers?

Lord I am glad that I am not the only one who can't figure this place out. I have been going to Numbers for the last few years before heading to the what I guess you would call "regular" bars. The last time I went there was supposed to be a hooville meeting but from what I could tell it didn't look any different then any other time I went. It looked like the same snoby Weho bitches doing their s&m.....boring!!!!!

Hugs,

Greg

That topic came up when I was at the Hooville meeting. See, another reason why you should attend.

I've lived in WeHo and LA for quite some time always hearing about Numbers. This place where the hookers stood in a line on the bar and attracted gentleman callers. Thus, so as not to be guilty by association, I avoided it.

A friend of mine wanted to go to dinner there because the food was supposedly good. Honestly, not what I was expecting. Apparently the place is like an urban legend of sorts. NOTHING going on. And this was at what would have been peak hours on a weekend.

Meanwhile, the food is mediocre and extremely overpriced.

Hope that helped!

Numbers can be very hit or miss. The food is ok,not great but I have had worse(think hotel food)and the boys can range from just a few old tired regulars,to an amazing choice of talent.

When it was on Sunset it was much more of a "bar with food"now that it is on SMB that has reversed and the crowd has shifted away from the working boys and johns to a more general WEHO crowd with a few cuties for hire sprinkled in.

The December meeting didn't quite go smoothly, in that somebody (ahem, me) didn't make reservations and for the first time in a very long while they were needed. The place was packed with people because of the upcoming holiday and the party at the real-estate office next door threw things off even more (and made the atmosphere very confusing, I'm sure).

Adding insult to injury, there were almost no working boys.

So we went to Cafe De Etole (probably spelled wrong, AKA Cafe Twat) and found the food to be much better. It's hard to believe anybody goes to Numbers for the food.

The LA Hoovillians also don't go there to hire, for the most part. Sometimes there's good eye candy, and once in a while conversation will be struck up, but most I can think of that have hired somebody from there haven't been to wild about the results.

Much like most of the food, most Numbers working boys look good but are overpriced and a bit too, well, WeHo.

As for how it works, the hustlers are fairly obvious (young, alone) sitting at the bar (facing out, another hint) or in the chairs outside. If you're too shy to walk over and start a conversation have a drink sent over, the boy'll probably join you in 2 seconds flat. Of course one must be a bit cautious of Law Enforcement (though the place seems fairly well tolerated, and it is in WeHo) which of course hampers being explicit about what you'd be getting. First "quotes" of $300 are not at all uncommon, many can be worked down, but as I said, few find the results worth it interaction and fun-wise. That's if you even get close to getting what you want out of the encounter... you're more likely to be pleased if your idea of a good time is servicing a hot guy then if you're looking to top.

Then there's Tomcal who knows and/or has done (for free and gotten them to bottom) about one out of two good looking guys that walk in the place (it's not just in Rio!), but your mileage *will* vary. :p

Seaboy, I wish I'd known to expect you, we would've made special effort to find you. Usually all one has to do is ask the owner, Tony about Hooville or Hooboy and he'll point you our way, but as I said that night was a clusterfuck (not in a good way...) and we weren't even there after 30 minutes or so.

Numbers has suffered from sort of an identity crisis ever since it moved to Santa Monica Blvd a few years back. The old place was clearer about what it was -- a restaurant and bar for hustlers/escorts and clients.

As for the new place, I'm there maybe once a month or so and these have been my observations:

It's open every night of the week, as far as I know, from something like 5:00 pm until fairly late (maybe midnight??). It's totally dead early but picks up on some days around 6:30. It can easily be busy at 6:30, dead at 8:00 and then pick up again at 9:30. On weekends, you will need a reservation for dinner and if you wait until the last minute to make one you may not be able to get one.

The food is decent. It's not the world's greatest restaurant, but I think the quality of the food compares well with any of the other restaurants in that area, including Cafe D'Etoile ("Star Cafe"). In fact, I'd recommend Numbers for food over Cafe D'Etoile, but I tend to stick with simple food at Numbers. I usually have the calimari, a filet with blue cheese, and a decent red wine. It's always prepared well and I'm always satisfied with it and I have reasonably high standards for restaurants.

The boys are hit and miss as to when they will be there. The end of the month seems like it's busier. If you're at a table and make eye contact, most -- but not all -- will come over. It's fairly easy to tell the difference between the boys and the clients. If there's someone there you're interested in, go talk to him, buy him a drink or whatever. Most of the guys there know the routine and are clear in why they are there.

Most guys there are polite, not drunk, not strung out and will accommodate you in conversation. If you're not looking to hire someone, it's pretty rude to keep them engaged in conversation while they might otherwise be talking to guys who would like to hire them, so you should make your intentions fairly clear early on.

Most guys will ask for $300 or more to go back to your hotel. I would never agree to that and immediately tell them that the going rate in LA is $200. They immediately agree and that's that. I've never, ever had a guy hold out for more than $200.

In terms of the actual experiences I've had with guys I met at Numbers over the years, it's been all over the board. Some have been very fun, some not so good. It's a bit hard to know in advance. The only thing you do know is what the person looks like, exactly, because he's standing two feet in front of you.

"that the going rate in LA is $200."

Hey hey hey .... last I checked going rate in LA was $250 - $300. God forbid we sink to New York's 150 - 200 so quickly. :)

Not the going has ever meant anything to me but I do have a lot of boys in training under me, particularly one in NY. Anyone wants cute fresh meat in Manhattan let me know! I'll set you guys up :)

Don't want to spoil a legend. Sooooo, next time I get to LA I could plan to pick you up there, before returning to my hotel room. :p

I try to strive to be as discrete as possible about escorting and even knowing that Numbers is one of the places to meet clients and escorts I didn't want to rock the boat. If there is another meeting when I am in LA at Numbers or some where else I think that if there are visitors coming it would be nice for someone to meet that person either outside at a certain time or have a contact number so as to not to make a mistake or something.

OK, I'll bite.....SA, I would love to meet your NYC boy in training. Damn I'd love to meet YOU too.

Even damn, twice, would love to meet you both together. Doesn't have to be at a restaurant, but if that's your preference, at least I know how to make a reservation.

Regards, kid

I have always found the place full of WEHO queens who were not particularly social.

As far as the rentboys, my following thread is typical:

#43672, ""Buy me a drink""

While recently at a Southern CA bar known for freelance hustlers, one approached me as I was headed for the door. After the engaging smile was presented, a 2 minute conversation ensued (where ya from, what do ya do) where I promptly asked "What do you charge?". When he told me $200 I declined and started for the door again, where he said "Buy me a drink".

Isn't this a bit much folks??

(And no, I did not buy him a drink...)

The main thing about Numbers now are the memories of when it was on Sunset and a hit almost any nite of the week.
