Even though I am a short time poster I can lay claim to being a long time lurker. With that said over the past few months I've noticed a trend with several escorts on this board. It has to do with their HUGE signatures, am I the only one who thinks this might be gerting out of hand?

 

Well, taking a cue from these escorts I've decided to add a like size signature to all of my posts. I hope you all enjoy it.

Band Width

 

The problem with the photographs, as was pointed out by either Hoo Boy or Daddy (or both) a while back when some escorts started doing this as part of their signature is the amount of bandwidth consumed. If I recall the posts correctly, Benji was paying to run a banner, albeit it ran frequently, with every post he made; most, if not all other escorts, were not contributing to Hoo Boys income, simply to his expenses.

 

I think every escort on here has posted photographs, particularly when they travel or when they have new photographs, in the Deli or elsewhere, and this use of bandwidth is probably acceptable and appreciated by everyone.

 

On the other hand, not everyone has a high speed connection or the time and patience to let images load, particularly on a thread with a high number of post counts.

I actully make sure the immages dont come from HooBoy's site, I understand and am aware of the expense of bandwith...that being said I take the source code form a site I do pay for it to be on.

I agree. I've long felt that BN's signature was overdone and overlarge. I'd hate to see other escorts jump on that particular bandwagon.

 

I've often logged into this site from quasi-public places, like airports, and large pics that suddenly appear without notice while scrolling down the page make that more difficult (or at least potentially embarrassing -- such as the pic posted by FourAces at the top of this thread).

 

Avatar images provide a good way to link a "tasteful" image to a post. Rick Munroe's has served him well over a long time. Adding larger images seems to me like over-the-top self-promotion.

Checking back on this thread, I'm struck by how many times VM's picture shows up in this single thread (at least three so far). He's been someone I've had some interest in meeting for a while now. But anyone who wants to see a large pic of himself show up over and over again in various threads seems to be falling into the Benjamin Nicholas mindset and is, consequently, of less interest to me.

 

One of the things that attracted me to VM originally was his self-effacing good humor and low-key approach to escorting. The new pic is attractive, but plastering it all over M4M is not.

Frankly, me too. There is a lot to be said for preserving at least some element of mystery. Enough is enough and to much is to much.

Ah, BG, we need to introduce you to FireFox, the web browser, and its most helpful add-on, adblocker! Properly configured, adblocker can make your life blissfully free of 99% of online ads, especially the most annoying ones. When I started running adblocker, just blocking a few key ad servers got rid of substantially all the ads from the sites I visit the most. Fortunately, adblocker lets you use the * symbol as a wildcard in configuration. The more general the block, the better. Judicious use of adblocker has made web browsing enjoyable again. Sorry to those depending on ad revenue, but I never click through on ads anyway.

We live in an advertising dominated age. Sadly, advertisers have to keep turning up the volume to be noticed at all. I notice that someone now advertises ON THE FLOOR of the grocery store I shop at. Some desperate advertiser has stick-on ads for the floor. Consumers get better and better at tuning out the ads entirely.

I don’t think there is such a danger. I don’t see the usefulness of a picture/link signature in EVERY post (except when one advertises his services in the Escort travels section). And I’m only talking from esthetical point of view, not to mention bandwidth.

 

For that purpose you have the "author's profile" option in the header of each post where you can add picture, link and a short text. That keeps the board simple and clean.
