I posted this initially with a subject that many may have skipped over because of the reference to "female escorts."

< Here's the short story:

Ahmednagar sex workers donate money

Wednesday, 29 December , 2004, 01:39

Ahmednagar: Sex workers in Ahmednagar and the district have come forward to donate over Rs 13,000 -- their day's earning -- as a humanitarian gesture for those affected by Tsunami tidal waves in southern India.

The women, under the banner of Snehalaya, an organisation working for women in flesh trade and their children, have already sent Rs 10,000 to the Prime Minister's Relief fund, according to Snehalaya trustee P S Savedker.

Further, the prostitutes and flesh workers from various red light areas of the city on Tuesday handed over a cheque of Rs 3,475 to the local Indian Express Citizens Relief Fund branch, he said.

Earlier too, these women have donated to the Kargil Fund and to the Gujarat quake victims. >

< Response from Bilbo:

Rather than asking organized religious leaders to make a contribution, perhaps we should suggest that all of the escorts who hang out here could find some way to donate one day's earnings to the victims. Perhaps through the Red Cross, since there is all ready one of their links on page one. If any of the other escorts want to do this as a group, then someone be the next poster and suggest which day. Since I am not the most popular type of escort, it would be all too easy to hit a day I make nothing and though I would give something anyway, it would look suspect if I both come up with the idea and choose a nonearning day. Anyone? >

< My response:

Your heart's in the right place.

Why not something like one day's earnings from the past week, or two?

With that suggestion I'm out of here. If anything like this happens, it needs to be an escort-driven exercise, IMHO.>

Escorts? Show your stuff. }(

Save the Children (http://www.savethechildren.com) also has a fund set up specifically for the tsunami victims if people are looking for another charity.

Words fail as to the magnitude of this disaster. I really hope these funds make a real difference and help these people who have lost so incredibly much.

Should You Tithe?

WHO: Whoever desires to worship God.

WHAT: Giving first 10% of income to God.

WHEN: Whenever you receive income.

WHERE: Where you have been fed the Word of God.

WHY: To worship God and to receive His blessings.

HOW: By faith, diligently, promptly, cheerfully.

Well I didn't give at the Church of BN, but I am to IRC (International Red Cross) & DWB (Doctors Without Borders).

Tithe fellow Hoovillians...

Good point! What the hell is wrong with Americans? Give billions to other countries that hate us and wish death upon us, but don't give a cent to our fellow Americans who are homeless, starving and living in the absoulte dregs of poverty! Make damn sure you send your money overseas, when there are thousands of Americans who die every day, because they don't have the medical insurance needed to keep them alive! :(

Nice timing for that particular rant. x(

What flavor is the schnapps tonight? }(

Posted

To ncm - wrong, I don't drink nasty assed schnapps, of any flavor. But I guess when you have nothing intelligent to say, then by all means fall back on the "tired old tripe comments", especially against people who you don't know at all!

To glutes - sorry I don't tithe to any church, even the so-called church of Benjamin. I don't believe in churches, as they were founded and run by "human beings". Also, just because I like and defend Benjamin from attacks and lies by some of the people who post on the mc, that doesn't mean I worship him! But don't let that twist the cotton that goes thru the eye of your needle.

Derek and I have already done our part; we split our donations between Direct Relief International and Doctors Without Borders (our two favorites). Here are the links for anyone who wants to join us:

Doctors Without Borders

PO Box 2247

New York, NY 10116-2247

Direct Relief International

P.S. Derek and I once spent a few months living in a hut on Pra Nang Beach in Thailand, and we'll never forget the warmth and hospitality of the Thai people (nor will we ever forget the sight of wild monkeys fucking right outside our hut). It was just like being on Gilligan's Island (we weren't the Skipper & his Little Buddy; we were more like male versions of Ginger & Maryann) (I was Ginger). Anyway, whether or not you've ever visited the region, the devastation is really huge and we really need to help if we can.

Let's see, you don't believe in:

-churches

-"human beings"

-worshiping BN

Maybe we should rename you VirtualAssholePaganHawk

Now you might not tithe at the Curch of BN, but I'm sure you've haven't been 'stingy' with his collection plate.

Vahawk does have a point. Before I posted the above, I hadn't yet heard of the flooding here in America. the pictures from New Mexico rival those from over there. But it was a smaller and less populated area, it would seem. However, wouldn't giving to the Red Cross cover both areas through one organization?

VaHawk,

Very good point...I have always wondered why we give so much money to Africa for HIV/AIDS and really skimp here on treatment, etc.

However, it makes me realize that maybe we can do both. I have always been involved with Church groups (I know, I know...who would have thunk)

and done things where I could make sure I knew where my money and donations were going. If anyone is in NYC, check out Midnite Run...we bring food and clothes to homeless every week at 4 or 5 different "hangouts" Its a lot of fun and only takes about 3 hours.

In 2005, I will do the national and international thing...and Im not talking about hiring and American and a Brazilian :-)

Whether you tithe at the Church of BN, or donate in the collection plate, or buy a coach R/T ticket to Rio or Bangkok, now is your chance to make a difference. DONATE to a relief organization!

The world will be a better place, and you'll be a person for it.
