Impressive no doubt.

 

Unfortunately whenever I see large choral groups sing with a huge organ,

I often feel that they are despirately trying to keep up with an overpowering

and bombastic musical instrument. You can almost hear the strain in every

gasp for air they take.

 

This piece certainly has moments of brilliance where they float above the

organ and there is magic. Unfortunately, there are more than a few moments

of vocal desperation as well.

 

Maybe I'm just not a huge organ/choral fan?

I think you nailed it. I am a huge fan of organ, and I particularly enjoyed the organ's thunderous bombard with the choir in the unison passages.
