he reminds me so much of the guy in the Volvo commercial I've been seeing on MSNBC lately; can't quite figure out the point of the commercial, but could it be the same guy?

 

 

I don't think so. Their faces seem differently shaped.

I wonder if your question, "Even if you're not into Daddies would you pass up this one?" answers itself... This guy is the ultimate Daddy, so if you're not into Daddies, I'd think you'd not be into this guy. I'm not into Daddies so I'm definitely not into this guy.

 

I'm definitely into daddies, but this guy not so much. I'm not sure how to describe it, but there seems to be something off.

 

Now that Volvo commercial guy…:p

The new Volvo XC90 has a 2.0 L, supercharged AND turbocharged engine. This seems to me to be somewhere between gilding the lily and utterly absurd.

 

Maybe you already know this. Turbochargers use exhaust pressure to spin a turbine to increase pressure (and therefore volume) of intake gases. Superchargers increase intake pressure/volume by driving their compressors off the crankshaft. Superchargers provide immediate gratification because the charger is hard-coupled to the engine. Turbochargers have lag because the turbine has to spool up off exhaust gases. Superchargers put drag on the engine because they're driven by the engine itself, and since they're providing boost all the time they're putting the stress of extra compression and heat on the engine when it may not be needed. Twin-charging is one of a half-dozen methods that engineers have come up with to defeat turbo lag - in this case providing the instant-on of the supercharger, which is disengaged when the turbo has spooled up to take over.

 

In the '80s I had a Mazda 626 GT Turbo. It wasn't the most gracefully engineered turbo system. When the turbo spooled up it was thrilling; it was like Han Solo getting lightspeed to kick in. The 626 was front wheel drive, with kind of harsh torque steer. If you weren't hanging on to the wheel with both hands when the turbo caught up with its lag you might find yourself changing lanes.

Good eye, but I don't think it is the same guy. There is something about the Volvo guy that sparks my fire. Weird, eh?

 

@Truereview no, not at all; he has that sort of smoldering sensuality; in another version of the commercial, he's a dad whose daughter is getting married and he's reflecting on that; I totally get it!

Interesting. Since I'm never in NYC anymore I'd live to hear about it if anyone contacts him and if anyone follows through with a meeting. I'm a bit put off by the "Ask me" responses for Orientation and Position.
