Someone successful enough to have the money to pay damages isn't likely to be on such a show. If the money's not there, such a clause will have no effect. (Besides, you can always sue for actual damages anyway, contractual damages that are in excess of actual damages run a risk of being invalidated, and lawsuits - for which the general rule is each party bears its own costs - are expensive.) It might make more sense to cut someone out of the show, but that doesn't work if they're the center of the show.
