as my Mom used to say, "Nobody wakes up for free"

That sounds like what we used to tell patients about anesthesia:

"How much does it cost to put me to sleep?"

"Nothing. Waking you up again is
very
expensive."

That's partially why this country went to Lethal Injection for execution. Personally, I think the Guillotine makes more sense. Especially if you give a sedative ahead [no pun intended] of time.

My option: The OP needs to drop his relationship with both Mark and His Friend (? John?)

I had hired a Cute Young Thing for many occasions. He then found The Love of His Life. TLoHL was found to embezzle from his employer, and I got the cat from their apartment. I then got the Cute Young Thing as an Escort Rescue Service (there should be more of these).

The CYT has lived here for three years now. The Cat from the Embezzler lived here for a year and a half, then disappeared.

We have no sexual relations. I find those in other people. [An unsubtle plug here for @Mikegaite]. It's nice to have a younger, more agile person around the house now that I am [here comes the reveal] 65.

Mark is a GoldDigger of the worst kind: Hates his client; hates himself. Not a good combination.

Here endeth the Commentary.

What does TLoHL mean?

I agree. When is the last time you heard of someone taking 45 minutes to die after getting their head chopped off?

Oh, I like that! There's a rescue in Chicago where they turned a three flat into a house for cats. I could fit an escort or two in my condo.

Happy 36th annual 30th birthday!!!

Well, there's no rational reason on earth why I should drop my friend John, whom I have known for four decades, just because he has become infatuated with someone who does not seem right for him.

If I disowned everyone who had ever made an inappropriate romantic choice, I would have no friends left. Indeed, I would have to disown MYSELF. :)

As for Mark, I have no relationship with him. I only interact with him at all when he is with John. Once their saga comes to an end, I will have no contact whatsoever with Mark. So you might say that he is already pre-dropped.

I'm curious about your statement regarding the psychological disposition that makes for a good escort. What qualities do you have in mind? In my experience, finding someone who is well-grounded and willing to risk a real person-to-person encounter with the client is critical. The absence of either is a major turn-off. I can see how other qualities -- flexibility comes to mind -- might also come into play.

The level of connection and ease at which someone is willing to share themselves is not I have found in most people as well as good boundaries. A good escort should be personable, engaging, funny and should feel as easy to talk to as your best buddy. From my experience as long as both parties are respectful your going to have a good time.

Mark sounds like a lazy spoiled brat.

Escorting is hard work.

Anyone who thinks otherwise has either never done it...or they sucked at it.

Everything in life is a CHOICE, and there is always at least one alternative......

"The difficult easy life" but unless you're a slave you always have another choice: college, flipping burgers at MacDonald's or something in between.

If you don't like the heat (escorting) get out of the kitchen, btw this ain't directed the posters I quoted, all the posters on here have said part of a big truth about choices, capabilities and life on this subject.

Well I'm late to this party. But I have only one question: Are John and Mark still together after all this time? Everything I read here would lead me to think they couldn't possibly be together anymore>

Their relationship is still fairly new, and they are in what I call the "honeymoon" stage. John still thinks all of Mark's quirks are adorable, but he is starting to get concerned that Mark is not interested in returning to school or accepting any full-time job that is "demeaning" or does not pay him enough (meaning...any job that Mark might actually have a chance of getting).

If the relationship lasts through the summer, I'll be surprised, but while its ongoing, I'm being a good friend and keeping my opinions to myself.

I want to concentrate on getting to know and have fun with a boytoy of my own, anyway.
